My babysitter used to play this game to keep us entertained. I freaking loved this game. Also, my babysitter was a genius. He spend the whole day playing video games and we behaved like angels…
When this came out on SNES, I asked my grandmother for it for my birthday. And my emotional self of younger years balled my eyes out with the passing of the Sprite. Such a great game.🔥
Dude listening to your recent videos and your videos from 2015 back to back the audio quality has improved massively, but the reCAPitations have never lost quality.
I did NOT expect this game to be as goofy as it is haha. I remember playing it as a kid, but only up to the dwarf village, so I imagine that's as far as I got. Traveling by cannon, meeting Santa Claus, Primm punching everything.. I love it lol
A long time ago in the devs confirmed during an interview that Gemma and Serin (Randi's father) were both part of the same order of knights and as such were good friends, they also hinted that Gemma may have actually died alongside Serin...
You should do the LUNAR series.... I picked up Lunar Blue story collectors edition when it first came out, played about a hour, left it at my dad's house and one of my cousins sold it to gamestop.
I investigated his achieved stream when he was live playing the game. At the moment the scene happens, he seems to be typing on his keyboard responding to the chat. As such, I think he might have just missed that moment that depicts the tree being blown up by the fortress. I was really hoping this was a case of international censorship that has gone unnoticed for 20 years, but instead it seems to be a error on Oni's case with his note taking process. It's a shame because its a really important detail.
Oh YES ! Secret of mana. One of the first rpg’s i played and i will love it for ever. Good story, good gameplay except the ai sometimes. And such awesome music !
What's weird is that due to the nature of the game if you don't talk to the knights before the water palace you won't get attacked. this event does actually change some things at the beginning of the story as far as when and where you meet certain people.
I believe you also must choose to use the cannon travel instead of walking to the Palace, but yeah it changes the story with regards to how you meet up with Purim (that's how her name was originally spelled), there's then another branching story not long after where you can choose to keep her in your party by going through the forest first or have her leave by going to Gaia's navel first.
and you can choose to grab Primm or not, or have her ditch you by trying to go to Gaia's navel, or have her stick with you by running into the axe block in misted bramble path to the witch's lair.
This would be interesting to be remade with content that was taken out, or otherwise a director's cut that might allow for Secret of Mana to be done in the way they wanted to. Of course the question is if this could be done, or if the concepts and people involved can remember, or are even around any more to take on such a project.
I think I beat this game a looong time ago but I barely remember it. I do remember, with later playthroughs, the game doesn't do the best job of explaining where to go or what to do next at several points. When this is combined that the game easily allowed you to sequence break, I became all sorts of confused as to what the hell was happening with every playthrough and just quit lol.
This game and mario kart were THE 'friends over' games to play. i played through it individually with groups of friends dozens of times. the stream was pretty fun to watch too! it made me realise what i remember about the game, and what was great about it, but also how my nostalgia goggles and/or the multiplayer aspect made me forget some of the weird/bad elements.
I've played a couple of Mana games and i gotta say... i don't like them very much, they are fun to play, but the story feels like it wants to tell something grandiose about the enviroment but at the same time it always feels rushed in the second half of the game, and the first half is just a teeny bit of worldbuilding followed by boring task, the worst example of this is Trials of Mana, with the firts half being "we gotta find the spirits!" and the second being "we gotta go kill the monsters!" and the end is "Oh no the bad guy became a god... oh, he's not all that strong..." and the fact that the games end with "and mana was gone from the world for like a thousand years" is bogus to me, like, you win, you save the world, but not really? And the characters most of the time feel like they are sort of there but have no real agency of their own, again, Trials is guilty of this, the game wants us to feel like the party are good friends, but they barely talk to each other, and the fact that their stories are divided makes it even worse... i don't much care about this franchise, i play it, i have fun with it, but i don't get excited or rush to replay the games when i think back on them
What I'ver never understood: The empire needs to unseal all mana seeds to activate the mana fortress and does so seed by seed. However, Randi seals them again seed by seed too, which kind of would actually require the empire to unseal them again to have them all unsealed at the same time?
I tried so hard to get into this game especially since I hear a lot of good things about it, but I just couldn’t. Guess I’m in the minority of people who think this game sucks :( and trust me, I tried I bought the nes version when I was a kid, the collection, and the remaster but could never finish it because I disliked it so much

These facts, unaware of them, I was. Thank you for your RECAPitation like always, and I'll catch up with Persona 2 on Saturday or Sunday. Take care. Easter Eggs discovered: Send them blasting off again.
Actually believe it or not secret of evermore had its engine built from the ground up it's very similar to secret of mana but it is not the same engine because different programmers and developers made secret of mana and secret of everyone
May I request that you do some more ReCapitations for Final Fantasy? The Crystal Chronicles installments would be nice to see. Also I'd love to see a Brave Exvius ReCapitation - it has over 40 million downloads and is one of the most popular Final Fantasy mobile games out there. It would be interesting to see your ReCap of BE and its prequel War of the Visions. It would be a great set of videos
Awesome! Been waiting for this one for a while ;) I honestly love this and Chrono Trigger Equally. Both for different reasons, but I enjoy them both in a similar way.
I tried getting into this game when the hd collection came out. It was one of the last big Super Nintendo games I hadnt tried. Just couldnt get into it. The music is great, the graphics are awesome, but the story and combat just didnt grab me sadly. I checked out mentally once I had to save Santa Claus. And I ended up dropping it a little before the final area. I can see why a lot of people love it though.
Quite literally in the first five seconds of this review told me something that I have not known about this game ever. This is a sequel to final fantasy adventures!? Now I feel like I've been living under a rock. How come the final fantasy? The series is so d*** hard to keep up with? And I used to consider myself a a final fantasy freak!
Underrated game on the SNES, by far. The series should of been a bigger player in JRPGs... Then, Chrono Trigger was released. I Still play this on my original cart from time to time.
@Oni Black Mage, first of all great video as always; very accurate. Would you take my request to cover what happened in a game called "Eternal Eyes" on the Ps1. I played the game long ago but never got the story cause I was too young.
I wish Square would release the documents for the original story and plans for the game so we could see how much changed. I always felt the music was too heavy for how silly the tone of the game is until the end.
agreed- if Square actually gave a shit about their IPs then the remake we should have gotten would have been the same graphics and music but massively extended story with all of the original cut content and script
Not that it took anything away from or affected how I enjoyed this video, but any particular reason that the original version of the game was used and not the remastermake? Great recapitation regardless.
Great game it looks like. Wish I had gotten a chance to play it. Still wanting to see rogue galaxy get a recapitation. I think it's one you will have alot of fun playing and making the video for
There was a "collection of mana" released on the switch about 18 month ago, it includes the original versions of sword of mana, secret of mana and Trials of mana, there was also a full 3D remake released a couple of years ago for ps4 and switch.
In this modern era it's crazy to think that this game was gonna be bigger but had to be redone and scaled down because of a failed deal between nintendo and sony. I and all of us love this game but it is jarring to look back at this game and see that the game is pretty unpolished full of glitches, unpolished english script. However it was the only JRPG I played here in the UK while I was praying for hopes of the first 6 FF games and Chrono trigger to come (If Americans thought it was hard being a JRPG fan back in the day. HAHHAA! Me and everyone in europe wanna have words with you in our Pirate talk of our emulator days.)
To be precise it is the source of mana and (if you look at lore from other games in the series too) is a sort of guardian deity that maintains the balance of good/evil.
Glad I watched you play a bit. Really showed you're in it with your heart. It is the most important SNES game for me. (next to Zelda) and my first RPG. I was lucky with the very well translated german version but finding out how great this game could've been if they had the CD expansion.. and only 20+ years later finding the anime that was made for it.. daamn.. I so wish they could've gone all in.. and I despise the remake.. cheap cash grab from a useless company... very sad.. This game deserves a true remake with the whole original vision remade. Thank you for this video.

0:50 which is why on modern re-releases and ports/remakes there needs to be a directors cut to show the full game and story as intended
Whenever people talk about this game ,no one ever mentions the fact that you help Santa Claus
This and Kingdom Hearts 2 are the only two JRPGs I know where you can help Santa Claus.
Santa is OP bro
Game reviewer Kbash mentions briefly it and it is short but glorious
