Valkyrie Profile is the most underrated and ambitious JPRG ever made. The story, the battle system, the music, all superb. Anyone who loves this genre should play this game.
Reminder: The game uses many actual Welsh, Icelandic and Norse pronunciations... not Marvel MCU and God of War 2018 interpretations. :) Thanks to the Patrons for voting for this one for the month of July! Let me lead with saying its hard to say Welsh names for a non-speaker, so for one in particular, it was the best take I could get (lol). I also want to say I cannot think of a better game with it sprite art detail and fluidity, Valkyrie Profile is really top-tier in that respect. At first, I didn't want to talk about all of the Einherjar, but there are only 24 and many of them are just set up, collected and that's it. It's not like its Suikoden and its over 100 mini stories to worry about. Great dungeon designs, good soundtrack and I really liked the unique battle system. I recommend this, and personally prefer the anime cutscenes of the original vs the CGI of the re-release. Next RECAPitation is: TBD
Hooo boy! I've always wanted to see a recapitation of this game. Truly a great underrated game in the Square's library and hopefully a revival of the series can once again breathe new life in this generation of video games. "To my side, noble Einherjar!"
Yeah that Welsh LL is always so hard for me to pronounce lol Apparently its pretty close to the TL in Nahuatl...which I also can't pronounce lol (Great video btw! Since they released that new Star Ocean a couple years ago, I've been hoping they revisit Valkyrie Profile. Beyond just that mobile game)

I never even managed to do that WHILE PLAYING. And I tried to get through this thing at least half a dozen times. Only ever made it as far as the clockwork labyrinth and realized every time that I had ... chosen poorly.
@@ANunes06 Tbh finishing the game completely without a guide was near impossible since the seal value system is never explained at all and the game makes you believe you're supposed to keep Lucian with you.
IIRC, to get the Ending-A, you have to remove the Valkyrie equipment (forgot the name), recruit every Einherjar and send only 1 or 2 or them to Valhalla every period so the seal won't get stronger too much. Then visit the places in certain periods to trigger events that can also reduce the seal... until it reaches 10 , then it will lead to the event where Lenneth find the earrings and break the seal. Ending C was the easiest as you don't need to do anything and skipped everything until Freyja appeared to punish you.
@@HenSt-gz7qj If you do everything else right you don't really need to bother with removing the Nibelung Ring. It also doesn't really matter if you send 2 up during the first 3 chapters, you can (and should) dump all your seal value during Chapter 4. It doesn't trigger automatically once you dump it either, you need to keep it under 36 until the beginning of Chapter 7 (while making sure you have sent Lucian up in either chapter 5 or 6). A Ending is also hard if you're a new player as you need to go through some pretty hard dungeons to get it, notably Lezard Valeth's tower who's a massive difficulty spike from what you've faced up to that point (outside maybe the Caves of Oblivion if you were unlucky as they're literal randomizers).
@@ElvenRaptor Again, the gacha game was made in 2016 and the last title was made in 2008. "This day and age" is closer to "this decade". It's not like Valkyrie Profile is a 50 years old franchise.

This is so weird. The PSP was trending on Twitter the other day, which made me think of this game, a couple of weeks ago I started rewatching a 12 year old Valkyrie Profile Let's Play, which I finished last week, and I caught an urge to play the other two games again, even though it has been over a decade since I played either one of them. I wonder if other people are feeling this weird pull to the VP series - it seems the Patrons were! I hope Square does too some day - I want more out this series (that isn't a mobile game).
I couldn’t click fast enough! Thank you for this video. I’ve replayed this one so many times, and I always reset until I get Nanami on Chapter 2 since the Dragonbane weapon she gets just annihilates early game enemies even though it doesn’t have Great Magic. Ahhh memories.
OH MY GOD YES. I played this game a long long time ago at my cousins house and loved it but could never remember the name of the game. Finally 18 years later i stumble across this video Thanks for helping me find it. I had given up
This is the best game ever made imo, I absolutely love this game. From time to time, I pick it up and get totally get immersed. The story, characters, battle system, secrets, sprites and everything else is just amazing.
This is quite an excellent story on its face, although I am wondering for myself how the gameplay works out. Your description, while serviceable in my mind's eye, makes me curious because this type of game, involving four party members that attack individually but only on your command, is simply a new experience for me. Now that I know the story (And I am impressed by a game of this age having voice actors *and* multiple endings), I definitely want to experience it for myself and see how the gameplay elements measure up, as I view it as a bold departure from the relatively standard gameplay that you see in a lot of other RPGs. Thanks very much for the RECAPitation, and I'll meet you on the next battlefield.
If you've ever seen/played the game "Indivisible" it takes the battle system from this Valkyrie Profile. It's timing based, kind of like a fighting game in some instances.
She probably has the saddest story of any character in the game. You go through the whole game watching her slowly lose all of her friends to the point where she's ready to embrace Gray, someone she had considered an enemy because he's now the only person she has left... only to find he too has died.
Ya know, its always bittersweet when you cover a game I've really wanted to play. Luckily, with this game I feel like it'll still be worthwhile to go back and play it myself someday. The story was so wide and varied.. and it clearly involves a lot of emotion that you can't exactly get from a recap video. I've always heard good things about this game, so its awesome to see that it actually seems to live up to the hype.
The good ending ! Many have missed this ending , when you play the game only 1 time you get generally the bad one. There are many conditions to unlock as having a low seal value , send lucian in valhalla , and to go where platina dies at the good act. Also there the end game dungeons where you will pass most of the time. For perserverants , if you kill the iseria queen 10 times you get angel slayer , do it 2 more times to get 2 extra swords for 2 other swordsman. This sword has 20K atk but have a awful trust, but still OP. Coupled with guts and revival (angel curio) and you are near inmortal
What's with these old rpgs? The worlds, the stories, the sets and the characters all tell this really amazing story. Dark, sad, you name it, it all feels like going on a massive adventure, from a humble beginning to saving the world... Nowadays I just don't feel it. I'm talking Octopath and Bravely Default. There's a "safe" feeling to those games as if every plot "set" needs to fit a specific mold or trope. It might be the visuals, how fights are more "spectacular" straight away. But then, in Valkyrie Profile, the fights are a spectacle from the start. It's just this really strange feeling.
I miss the old games. Story line, character development, PLOT... Now? Not only are they watered down, there is so much focus on graphics they feel empty.
