When I was racing those things the advice was always stiffer springs and struts/shocks, stiffer front sway bar, and no rear sway bar. Poly bushings everywhere except the watts linkage, as the angles get wonky as you lower it so you want it as loose as you can get it, the bushings end up binding up and getting weird unless you get adjustable ones and do a bunch of math. Anything to keep that solid rear able to get traction with that stock watts linkage setup.

I'm really glad to hear that Gavin is cutting off the old tubes and pressing on bigger ones for the front struts. I used to run my '80 GLC in SCCA HP class and had to run stock bits per the class rules. With new slicks, I had a strut tube (same spec as your stock SA) collapse under heavy load on a fast right-hand turn (3rd gear) at Sebring and the tolerance was so close that the strut leaning against the tire acted as a very abrupt brake. Bad things occurred (barrel roll) and I had to write that car off. Can't wait to see you take this SA to a track day!

You know how those things go with the projects - guys go all out getting nice wheels fitted to a weird size and then partially mitigate the problem in the first place by getting custom hubs that can be drilled out to any size...
But that's how the cookie crumbles with these kinds of projects - there's a picture in your head, life throws you curveballs, and then you adapt. I'm glad to see they are straightening out some of the slow growing issues as they discover them even though it slows things down. I've seen these guys evolve over more than a decade and at this point I expected nothing else.
Thanks for keeping the lifestyle alive and drawing new people into this great hobby.

im basically doing the same thing with an atv i just got. took it down to the bare frame, sandblasted the frame and repainted it and just need to get a blasting cabinet to finish the rest of the parts. its always satisfying when you restore a project like your doing. then you know every little bit about the vehicle.

I did this upgrade to my RX7 years ago. Those old rubber bushings are no fun to remove. I didn't have a press so I drilled out as much rubber as I could then used a torch to get the rest. I went with shock inserts and lowering springs as coil overs of the kind you used were out of my price range. Word of caution on the watts link, it asymmetrical and doesn't like a change in ride height. I used heim joints and built my own adjustable linkage to set it up correctly. You want the watts center to be straight up and down with weight on wheels. Great build. I wish I still had mine.

If this was the first episode of the channel I would’ve been turned off from the production feel in the first 2 minutes. I have watched every episode you have ever made so I know your personalities and even forget that sometimes (occasionally) there is a cameraman there. You are OG car guys and I thank you for everything you’ve done.

Builds looks awesome! I love these cars! A couple of handy hints with the suspension on the Gen 1 rx-7's. Removing the rear sway bar will make the car less taily, and if you're replacing bushes in the car, leave the rear upper control arm bushes, as putting new bushes in them can cause binding issues due to the unequal length of the arms.

It’s MAAAD to see the progression of MCM over the decade. From simple driveway mods to having your own garage and hoist and now being able to do the sandblasting and such in your own space! I can see the production quality of projects AND videos ramping up so quickly. However looking at your videos over the last few months I find it hard to see how your views are so low and hardly reaching 1M. It’s sad to see that more people aren’t watching such awesome and dedicated content!

After 25 years experience with building and racing RX7s my advice is to remove the rear sway bar completely and it will definitely handle better and reduce the chance of snap oversteer, also don't lower it to far as the inequal length trailing arms can start to bind and also the offset watts link will also bind creating a very nasty
handing indeed. I normally replace the crap watts link with an adjustable Panhard bar I make. Have fun
