It was exacly yesterday when I posted one picture which was heavily cropped (like 1/9th of the original image), even though all other pictures were not cropped or cropped very lightly. The heavily cropped image didn't work without that crop, so I don't think having a 40mp sensor is completely useless, if used with proper resolving lens.
It really depends on the situation. If I’m traveling with the Q3, I take comfort in knowing I can crop later in post to get the composition I want. Sure beats changing lenses…
Yes, cropping magnifies the noise (and blur). This is just like crop sensors do, which is why a full frame ISO100 is similar to a 4/3s ISO400. If you crop that full frame down to 4/3s size then the ISO100 file will look like ISO400.
But you are also wrong in parts. Cropping reduces the field of view, which is the same as using a longer focal length, there is no different compression between the two. You should do a controlled test to compare if you really think they are different, and you will see you are wrong there. From a sensor perspective using A7RIV in APS-C crop mode is the same as using a Sony APS-C camera (yes IBIS on A7RIV is not the best, but A6400 does not even have IBIS). Also, the Leica Q3 has a 25mm lens, not 24mm. Fred Miranda has proved this.
But same price and weight APSC lenses have higher apertures than the fullframe counterpart so for most users that do not use massive G Masters they get more light on their APSC sensor, thus eliminating the FF ISO benefit.
@@Bayonet1809of course there is a difference because the distance between you, the subject and the background changes if you want the same composition on a different focal length. Try shooting a portrait in front of a mountain on a 28mm and a 50mm, no amount of cropping can give you the same compression and shallow depth of field
@@Bayonet1809 exactly, and that results in lazy & bad photos. The results will be a lot worse if you don’t change your position based on your focal length, might as well use a zoom then.
I love my A7RIII. I don't have to use a shutter speed of 1/1000 s to get a sharp photo. Here the other day I cropped a photo from 42 to 16 MP and the image quality was still very good. The aps-c/crop mode is very nice to have, but I wouldn't buy the camera for that. A dedicated lens is better, I agree on that.
OK. I get your point. But I never shoot over 12500 iso, I do not shoot for insta, FB, etc. I shoot for print. I shoot/edit B&W (monochrome). So, not really worried about noise. With my x-t 5 I can easily shoot at 15th or even 1/2 second. And I only crop in post.Night photography works just fine.....Thank you for exposing these "gimmicks" for what they are.
There is no set answer to this question. I've been an amateur photographer for nearly 60 years starting long before IS even existed. For that reason, I became skillful at holding a camera steady out of necessity. I believe Image Stabilization has made people less skilled at holding a camera steady because they depend on the technology.
Regardless the crop you use, the characteristics of the lens and focal length doesnt change. Especially in fixed lens cameras it is nice for jpeg editing. In essence you crop on the sensor of your camera
Aside from a drop in resolution, between 35mm and 50mm, I highly doubt anyone could tell the difference between a cropped photo vs a longer focal length.
Not sure I understand what the big deal is. If you have a A7CR you don't have to shoot high mp shots all the time. You can set the camera to shoot FF images at a lower resolution. So when, for example, you shoot with a Tamron 20-40mm F2.8 lens, you can take a FF 20mm shot at around 30 mp and then an in-camera 60mm cropped shot at around 25 mp. All of this without going overboard with mp and not coping too heavily. It sounds like a good approach to me. Maybe I'm missing the point though
couldnt agree more..you can not achieve the same result you get from a 56mm with a 23mm instead and crop it later. .so far I'm still very satisfied with the images i get from my 26mp xt3 and have no intensions changing it..
You mention Sony a lot here but Sony don’t make many or any decent dedicated crop sensors lenses like Fuji does, and when using FF lenses on crop bodies not only are they heavier the resolving power of a FF lens is not designed for a crop sensor. Ideally buy into a system were Body + Lenses were designed together and not just an after thought.

Probably..no, definitely, the best new channel I have found in 2024 regarding photography.
Thank you 🙏

Great video. I completely agree. However the quality of the Q3 is astonishing!

Thanks for the video! I have an X pro 3 with voigtlander 27mm f2. What would be the best AF lens to complement this?
For me is Fuji XF 35mm f1.4... I've always preferred this combo.
