Layering 3D Grass In LUMION to ADD DETAIL and TRANSITION Between Materials!

In this tutorial I show how to layer multiple grass layers to either add more detail to a particular area of the scene or to help transition between two textures like 3D grass to sand! Typically whatever I put 3D grass on will have some hard lines that do not always look realistic but this will help to smooth out the change in textures.
I learned about this trick when I was watching Amir Fiala's RUclips channel:

They have some great tutorials and I highly recommend checking them out if you have not already. When it comes to lighting scenes he stands out to me as someone who really knows how to make materials and models come to life in Lumion. Here are a few of my favorite videos from Amir:

The video was inspired by Amir Fiala. He did a similar trick in one of his videos. It is a weird way of doing it but I really like the result! Especially for grass transitioning to sand at a beach.

Thanks Dhodi! The thing I find this helps the most with is going from grass near a beach to the actual sand. I tried to do it with a scene before finding this trick and it was just not working out.

This is something I was thinking about last night, and how it would be great to make it for my landscape project, to soften the edge between grass and dirt. It happens to me that sometimes grass is coming from some hidden layer and poke through the pavement, that' something you don't want. I was thinking how to use it to make something like this. Thanks a lot! As I mentioned in the video I learned how to layer the grass from Amir Fiala, but I figured the transitioning part from grass to sand should work well too! This is an easy way for people to make paths through grass that do not have hard edges.

Usually you would need Photoshop to do that

It's a great trick. I personally like to try to do as much as I can in the rendering software and I leave the photoshopping to just color correction and exposure.

This is ridiculous for complex terrain, it doesn't make sense, a lot of work for nothing

Hi Desen, I am not sure exactly what you mean. Do you mean the trick is too much work for complex terrain? You can copy the terrain and drag it slightly below to achieve this effect, the shape or size of the terrain shouldn't affect it too much. Let me know if you need a hand with anything!
