EASY Way to Make BACKGROUND BUILDINGS in LUMION! Free and Easy!

  • In my opinion Lumion's background buildings are kind of outdated. The biggest issue I have with them is there are no emissive windows during the nighttime so it comes out looking flat.
    Substance recently came out with "building" textures. This will allow you to create windows with different levels of emission, open/closed blinds, and other customizations! There are two free versions of this so after you create an account with Substance and download the player you are good to go! I also created really simple Sketchup models an uploaded them to the warehouse for you to use.
    Download Lumion Building Texture Here:
    drive.google.c...
    To get this in your folder, go to C:\Users\"YOUR NAME"\Documents\Lumion 11.0\Materials
    and drop the files from my drive in there. It should come in ready to go.

      Definitely check out those Substance textures! The free ones are good but there are more classical buildings in there as well. Most give more options than the Lumion buildings. Best of luck with the project!

    Really informative, thank you. Been scratching my head for this, i actually started avoiding night scenes cuz i couldn't have a proper background.
    Sometimes i could have like sort'an HDRI or a really massive curves plane on which i slap a night image to act as my background, but wouldn't be as accurate and your camera angles have limitations to what they can show.
    so thank you so so much for this. Blessings

      I have done the HDRI image as well, it works really well for images fair in the background but with a little bit of work these will come out a lot better for the reasons that you mentioned. It just gives the scene more depth. Thanks for checking out the video Mukiibi!

      Thanks Taylor! Sorry I took so long to reply to this. I am really hoping we see more textures like this come out of Substance as while they are not perfect, they are EXTREMELY cheap in Lumion and are definitely good enough quality to make some scenes.

      @@LuminousLabs Well, it took me a while to find the Free Substance Player because Adobe seem to have hidden it. They now do the Substance 3D which, surprise surprise, Adobe have made subscription only. However, I've subscribed as the materials, including buildings, is quite Extensive. I can download the ones I need, then use Substance Player to process them into usable files for Lumion. The Substance 3D Designer by Adobe, which I can now use with the subscription, looks waaaaay too complicated for me.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs  2 года назад

      @@michaelsiggers4109 Unfortunately there was always that extra step with Substance but now it is even worse most likely. It's fine Adobe bought them but I really don't like them putting it in the creative cloud interface. I don't feel it is very intuitive to use.
      Luckily you only need to do the buildings once and you can just save it in Lumion!

  • @gizmonomono
    @gizmonomono 3 года назад +2

    I've been wondering about this myself recently. I just did a night project, and even though you can turn on headlights on cars, there is no way to turn on lights on buildings. That's disappointing.
    Also, Twinmotion just unveiled that they are working on Ray tracing and HDRI maps. Once they realise this, I'm saying goodbye to Lumion. As Twinmotion is 5, I repeat, FIVE times cheaper. I hope Lumion get's their shit together soon. Otherwise, they are out of business.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs  3 года назад +1

      I agree with you as well. While I was happy with the 11.3 omnilight changes I think they need to really reevaluate the engine Lumion uses. I think if there aren't some major overhauls to the engine they will lose a huge market share.
      The things I think should be high on Lumion's priority list is basically an overhaul of reflections all together, camera importing, and vertex animations being able to function in Lumion.

    • @gizmonomono
      @gizmonomono 3 года назад

      @@LuminousLabs Yes. They really need to wake up and catch up. D5, and Twinmotion are taking over. And with Unreal 5 just arround the corner, they are just doomed.
      I mean, I love Lumion, but I don't think they can catch up to the competition. Not with that 10 year old engine.
      I mean, they might have an ace up their sleeve that we don't know about, but.....I doubt it.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs  3 года назад +1

      @@gizmonomono I have said it before but I really think d5 is the biggest competition for Lumion. It seems like they are offering a similar product and the fact they use RTX features with unreal engine is huge.
      Something I also think holds Lumion back is how closed off it is. Companies would dump a lot of money into having add-ons made for them.

    • @LuminousLabs
      @LuminousLabs  3 года назад

      @@tcfonts I agree, at first I think it was really good for what it does, but considering Lumion has a relatively small team with an aging engine it doesn't leave much wiggle room.

      To get this in your folder, go to C:\Users\"YOUR NAME"\Documents\Lumion 11.0\Materials
      and drop the files from my drive in there. It should come in ready to go. drag and drop these two files into the folder path above and the building will now appear in your custom materials. All of the maps are good to go.
