I'm over sixty five and bought four different types of great skates. I was paralyzed and on sticks for years so I'm sick of it! I'm ready to move.I'm ready to ride my horse.
Good for you. I skated in my 20's. I'm now 47 and I've decided to start again. My 14yr old thinks I'm a bit nuts 🤣 I have a fab new pair of skates and like you I'm starting to practise at home. Never too old for ANYthing! 💚
Don't forget to support your local roller rink. I skate every chance I get, usually on Friday "Teen night" with my 8 year old son. He recently joined the local roller rink speed team and he loves the comraderie and team atmosphere. We skate at Aurora Skate Center in Aurora IL.
I used to be the BEST skater when I was a teenager! I haven’t skated in over thirty years . I went to the park yesterday and I literally thought I was going to die. I was so embarrassed that I can’t skate like I used to I was crying. I guess I just need to “start over” in a way and just practice as much as I can . Getting old sucks and there’s also the fact that I’ve gained weight since I was a teenager and even in my twenties I was skating all throughout my teen years and twenties and now I feel like a toddler. I was VERY embarrased yesterday. 😢
I'm almost 60 and I skate 2× weekly or more. I have been told I am too old but I tell them I'm moving and healthy unlike their mouth moving and UNhealthy
I'm 57 years old and can still do a double flip on roller skates!! You're never too old it's all about taking care of yourself... I've had double hip replacement surgery from years of skating, but can still roller skate thanks to my surgeons.
I’m 66 years old. I used to skate many, many years ago. I did artistic dance earning the silver medal, school figures and some freestyle. I was working on landing double jumps when I decided to focus on dance. Of course I did school figures too. This was fifty years ago. I’m desperate to want to skate again. I have knee issues, I get gel shots. I have weak ankles and I do physical therapy exercises to strengthen ankles. I am actively working on weight loss and work with a nutritionist to this goal. Can I return to skate? Thank you!🛼🛼
I’m 63 and I skate still.. love it! My skate friends are older than that. Wear your gear! By the way..I would never had guess that you were 55.. that’s inspiration right there to still skate! You look great! Wow!
54 and skatin’. Today I learned a ton from a skater in their 60’s. Managing expectations, learning technique, and building skills and strength…thanks to you.
I've been accused of having a mid life crisis because I skate, Rollerblade, ride bikes, and have recently started learning to free skate. I never really stopped being athletic. I'm just way more into it now because my kids are grown so I can do some things I enjoy now. I had a client that took up skating in her 70's! I'll never understand people who think getting older means you just lay down and wait to die.
Hey everybody. I'm 71 and back to skating after a 15 year hiatus. Form and muscle strength is returning. Starting to re-learn jumps. Thanks Deb for your inspiring videos. Dan from Tennessee now.
I was raised on skates (rink was four doors down from us), but haven’t been on my wheels in over 15 years. My husband is trying to dissuade me from returning because he doesn’t want me to hurt myself. I’ll be 60 in October. I think he’ll just have to deal with my return to my wheels. 😮
I am 66 and 3 weeks ago, I started skating again after 40 years! I used to be a great skater and it's all coming back..bit by bit. So just do it! I am also 100 pounds overweight :)
Your story is exactly mine and I want to skate again so much but wasn’t sure if it would come back to me. We used to go skating for years twice a week or more. Loved it.
Showed up to my first roller derby recruitment at 27 with no skating skills. I have teammates who started for the first time at 54 and 55. It’s never too late!!
I started back skating at 66. My husband was worried I’d hurt myself. Our compromise is I wear a helmet, wrist protection, elbow and knee protection and padded shorts for my butt and hips. I look like a dork. Do I care? No. I’m having fun, getting my skills back and loving every minute. Also get good skates and wheels! It had been at least 40 years since I skated regularly. Maybe longer. I am watching these videos to remember AND to learn. Thank you for these videos! ❤
Hi Cee, You're doing just what I've been telling folks past - 35yrs old - to do since 1970. Great for you and I hope that others will follow your Lead.
I learned to roller skate when I was in my mid teens back in the early 80’s. The last time I went skating was in the late 90’s-And YES! I stunned my Nephews when I rolled laps around them with speed and style. I’m ready to start roller skating again. Thank you for inspiring me. Have fun & be safe😊
Sounds like me but I'm single. 68 years old. Used to be really good on skates. Just started ordering all the padding. I'm totally aware that I'm going to look completely ridiculous but it's worth it if I can relax and feel safe, though I'll still probably be really careful for a while. Can't wait to get going!
Thank you! I'm 54 and started skating last year. I always return to the question of whether I am fit enough to skate. I'm not athletic, I sit behind a desk all day, and I'm definitely out of shape. BUT I enjoy it so much that I don't care. It doesn't stop me from continuing to try and build up my stamina. Thank you for being so positive and supportive! You are always great to listen to.
I’m a 38 year old husband and dad. I was soo embarrassed by what ppl would think of a grown man falling. Once I seen how sad my 7 year old daughter was because I was embarrassed to get out there with her, it struck a nerve in me! I’m currently working on my crossovers 😊
Same started at 36 to learn skating due to wanting to learn with my 4 year old. I had so much fun learning. Then I sprained my left ankle when I fell. I am almost fully recovered and will be back soon for her birthday. I want to teach my daughter to be resilient.
I go to your videos for everything at 53 (almost 54). Every time I’m practicing essentials or cruising outdoors. I just breathe, relax and enjoy myself, taking the essentials and building on them. Seeing others encourages me, but I realize what my goals are, and how I can go about achieving them. Practice, practice! Thanks for this video and your support 😘
I’m 55 and started skating again, haven’t skated for over 40 years. Your vid was encouraging bc I don’t wanna hurt myself however I love skating. Love your basics on fundamentals and I hope to meet you one day. 😊
I just turned 52 and received a pair of quad skates for my birthday. I ❤ your channel! Greetings from Augusta Georgia! I already wrecked myself getting my 12-year-old skate brain to realize that this wetware is different. And am so proud! 😂
Thank you Deb! I'm 44, started skating about 1.5 yrs ago. Because of you I can skate up and down the hill in front of my house. :D little by little improvements and now I go to the skate park weekly and love skating everywhere! I also very much love my padding for when I fall. Thanks so much for your videos and inspiration.
I am Day 3 after a knee replacement (both hips and my right knee are all titanium already). Once I am healed, I look forward to using my 2 yr old skates that I wasn't able to use until this knee got fixed. I am so excited! I am turning 55 in February and will NOT be the oldest person I know who skates. Thanks for this video...it is really important!
Hey, I've seen an elderly couple killing it in the skating rink. They had on cute vintage clothes, and they were the fastest skaters there, doing spins, and jumps, and dancing. It was awesome! It really is a mentality that you have to overcome. At any point in life, you are capable of making change and accomplishing amazing things for yourself.
I am 65 and grew up skating up to my 20s . I lived at the roller rink. I just found out there is a new skating rink open in my area and I said time to lace up again. I just ordered my skates, but now I will wear protective pads. I am excited to add this into my various fitness and activities rotations.
Girl, you don't know how I needed this today. I'll be 39 in a week, I am currently in week two of my local roller derby league's Fresh Meat Boot Camp, and I am really fighting my self-doubt. I've wanted to play roller derby for over a decade, but I always let the fear win. This year, I decided to finally go for it. I'm a fairly beginner skater, and it's hard. I feel like I am miles behind most of the other skaters, but I'm trying my best. Thank you for the encouragement and the quality content that I can watch over and over to practice and get better
32 here and just started classes last year! Have been going skating at least 2 times a week and daily when I was on holidays over Christmas. I am loving it and your videos are so inspiring ❤️ I love your energy! (Love from all the way over in Australia)
Hi Dirty, I'm 64 from the UK and started skating again just a month ago. I've watched your videos from the start, over and over. I'm only going forward (no fancy stuff yet) You are and inspiration, I never got the knack of how to skate in my teens and always hit the floor so I gave up. My daughter (26) fancied a trip to the rink and asked if I wanted to go, so I did. But, before I went, I found you. I watched your lessons, doing the moves without skates on, keeping the knees bent, leaning over from side to side and when I got to the rink............ I didn't fall. The balance took a bit of work but you were in my head all the way. My inside thighs were aching the next day doing the plough stops but I absolutely had a ball. I've got my own skates now and some outdoor wheels, I had a go on the driveway but not that confident yet for outside. Thank you so much for your patience and fabulous videos and I will GO PRACTICE Barbara Salway
I listened to you Deb, and had a break from skating. Only about 6 months. Work, time and a bit of a self meltdown. A lack of confidence crept in. My two skate buddies both stopped aswell. One moved out of the region, the other had a leg injury. Our rink changed management and is also not that great. Again, you deliver the talk I needed to hear. I never care what people think. Never have. Been a skater since I was 6. 50 now. Big break for 20 years. Yeah you do things a bit differently, but I went back to it like a duck to water after full on back surgery. Pain kept me off skates all those years. It is the self talk that needed to stop which was making me worse with a strange skate anxiety that came out of nowhere. Skating is the best rush. And definitely fills me with a euphoric high the minute I tie my skates on and take a roll. Hope I have a few decades left in me! Thanks for voicing what I need to hear. I just love you!
I'm glad you did this video. So much about picking up skating again or just starting is about knowing yourself and taking your time to learn. Thankfully, I was naturally athletic and with a dance background I have a good sense of how much to push myself. Short story is I started rollerskating the last week of June 2022 and I was 63. I had a healthy amount of fear but skating inside my house and used hiking poles for balance in the beginning. I went from two hiking poles to one and then to none. Once my muscles started waking up and developing it started coming back to me but I was surprised that it took me some time to skate again. Maybe that is the difference in being 63/64 and in being 20. It took me three weeks before I had the nerve to go to the rink. I quickly upgraded my skates and it made a huge difference. I started skating outside on tennis courts and then on to outside on trails. I have severe arthritis in my left ankle from a triple fracture from ice skating. I was 20 when that happened and regret it but it doesn't stop me from skating. It hurts less to skate than it does to hike due to how low impact roller skating is on the joints. I have made so many new friends! Just because of skating! A few people, usually strangers, comment that I might hurt myself. Most of my friends, colleagues and acquaintances are having a blast watching me enjoy life and enjoy skating. I can practice footwork and learn new moves in my house. I use common sense when on the trail. I doubt I will ever stop skating. Skating is pure joy. It has changed my life!
it's definitely not like riding a bicycle! It doesn't come back right away. Back in the day my boyfriend and I traveled all over, skating and competing; but group shuffles are the best. Back into it now and regret quitting for sure. Have a great time!
My wife and I (47 and 48) enjoy your videos so much! We both skated as kids and have been going back to the rink together recently. We're kind of obsessed now. Your instruction makes it so we can't WAIT til we go skating again. Thank you for what you do!
I'm like Magic...hitting 70s and love roller skating, Its a buzz but the ultimate was a visit to the Fountain Valley Skate Center two summers and taking in an ADULT skate night...those skaters, in our age range, were ripping it at speeds I couldn't believe. I grew up on ice skates and over the years both roller and ice skated but it was my work on my roller skate book Chicago Rink Rats: the roller capital in its heyday" that got me back into a serious groove...to aid my balance, flexibility and coordination., This complements my cardio workouts. And of course, there is the social element...where ever I travel, I hit a rink which is how I ended up at FVSC...I've been to probably a dozen different rinks around the country...always a thrill and an adrenaline rush. And I continue to work on new skate skills with Dirty always an inspiration! So...yeah...never too old!
Hey. I'm sure you been to Aurora Skate Center then. That my home rink pushing 45 years old. Got me son skating 8 years old on the inline speed team now.
This is exactly what the world needs to hear Deb! I love your passion and it inspires so many in their skating journeys! This applies to any skill you want to learn.
Well said! You’re an ambassador for living evergreen 🌲 Thank you so much for all the lessons and positive vibes, Dirty & team!! You help me stay brave at 44. Thanks also to everyone here sharing their stories. Glad to be in good company. 🙂 I got my skates last November inspired by all the beautiful flow on socials. It’s become an important part of my healing journey - body, mind and spirit 💕
The best part of skating as well as I did at 14 when 57- “The fans age 6-40 roll up on you and say Wow You’re A Good Skater…and I say….For??? Go ahead, My skin May look old but my mind and body has everything it did in the 70’s…same proportions thankfully. US Nationals 2024..”I’m bringing heat to Seniors Freestyle and Dance!”
My moms 52 and she loves roller skating but sadly she hurt her ankle, but her ankle is almost fully healed! 😊 I also roller skate and LOVE your videos. 💕💕
Started 5/2022 turned 60 7/2022. I make small progressions every time I go to the rink which is progression even though small. Benefits many levels of my being. Go roll! Thanks for the videos ❤ Great question here - is it really about your age?
Hi my name is Annette I saw your comment and just had to tell you I’m 61 I take my grandkids skating and I sit there wishing I could join them and then I came across your comment I’m afraid of trying thinking I’m to old but maybe I’ll try
I am 51 -soon to be 52 and I am just getting back into this after 35 years. I was one of those kids who put on a pair of skates and took to it instantly. Sadly, I suffered from a severe knee injury during a dance competition at the age of 16 and my knee is still very sensitive to this day. I skate very cautiously as a result, but I have amazed myself even still. It all came right back to me and relatively quickly. I am several months in and have been tweaking out my choice of skates. Upgrading and spending a little bit more, now that I know that I can actually continue. I have acquired so much information since watching your videos and I truly can't thank you enough. I never knew how to adjust my skates or understood the simplicity of it. This has been a new lease on life for me and it's gotten me moving and active again. It's given me something to look forward to week after week and it's something I now share with my 10 year old daughter who is so much like I was -an instant skater with a lot of natural abilities. I can't wait to continue exploring your countless videos. You are truly inspirational and thank you so much for all that you do!!! : ) Keep up the amazing work!!!
I went for 40 years without skates on. I can't do the things I did at 12 so I don't try. It's just like sex. Once you learn how, you won't ever forget. You may fall down easy at first, just get up and go again. Thank you Debbie for all that you do. You've helped alot of people.
Much needed pep talk. You're so right I see all these amazing women older than me sometimes (I'm 42) doing some amazing tricks on social media and I can barely skate forward so I feel discouraged. And I'm so so afraid of getting injured so it's like why bother. But if I give myself the chance to do this at my own pace maybe I can really enjoy it. Thank you Dirty
Love this!! So true. I'm 37 and started inline skating last summer. I never ever saw ppl skate here, and skating is often seen as 'just for kids' here. So i was afraid to go out. What will ppl say, oh nooo. But then i saw my neighbor picking up skating too after 20y,like me. And he also had a friend that skated, so now we go skating downtown once or twice a week, we even drive to different towns and trails. And we often get positive comments and ppl smiling 😁. We're 37,45 and 50y old. Now i want to try quads, but i've never ever seen those. on the streets (and we don't have rinks here in our country, i think, only ice skating) so i'm again, afraid ppl will laugh at a grown up man on quads. Cause in America it's very common i asume, but here....and I can't go on trails with me on quads and my friends on superfast inlines though 😂. But i'll just cruise down the street or on a parkinglot for now. I really want it. I feel ready and i should not care about what ppl think 💪 so i ordered some and they're arriving in 3 days 😍
I'm really enjoying roller skating, but as an older guy, I feel awkward and out of place at the rink during regular hours, as everyday is either Teen skate or Family skate night. And even if I wanted to go during those times, practicing is nearly impossible with all the kids zooming around and/or falling in front of me. The only time I can comfortably skate is during adult night, which is only once a month. :(
I love this! I had to remind myself of this the other day - i had to tell myself, I don’t NEED to skate fast, i can simply go to the rink, skate at my own pace, and move smooth and fluidly the way i desire, instead of trying to lean to “go fast” to keep up with everyone else - love this whole vid
I learned how to skate when I was young, I’m 64 years old and I loved to skate when I was younger, but being 64 now and a few leg injuries I’m kinda scared to go to a rink and try to skate again, but listening to you has got me thinking about skating again 😊
I'm 66 I used to skate alot in my 20s-30s and then some in my 40s when my son was young then quit a long time..he suggested last year we get skates and do it again..I'm lucky to have a nice rink nearby. I go twice a week adult session mornings with coffee..I have good skates and fast wheels and trying to get the nerve to try some turns..I can skate backwards, I used to Flea Hop wth partners and would love to do it again..but I love just bobbing along with the music..I request all the old disco skate music and we all have a blast..at 1130 they play the Cupid Shuffle and a bunch of us get in the middle and do the dance!...so fun!! .just do it folks you can!
I was asking this exact question. I even asked myself many times. I last asked chat gpt 2 days ago if I was too old for this job. It's said no. I am 42 years old. I live in Istanbul. In the book Willpower Training written by Jules Payot, he advises young people to skate. After reading these lines, I first bought inline skates and then roller skates in February this year. There are almost no people my age in Turkey who do this sport. If there is, it is numbered. I have worked for 7 days in total now. If I add it up, it'll only take 3 hours. I practice in places where no one is around so that people won't laugh if I fall. Thank you very much for opening such a topic.
Thank you very much, you are my biggest inspiration and motivation to start again after 40 years. Many greetings from an old (then passionate skate-) "girl" from Germany 😉✌
Hello Dirty Deborah Harry, Just found your Channel. Great to see you're still Skating at age 55 . Great Stuff and it's wonderful that you're sharing your Skating Experience for all to see. It's also Great that you're trying to teach the Proper Skating Techniques to help reduce Folks Risk of Falling. I started Skating in 1953, and Skated till my 73rd BD in Nov 2019. 66 yrs. of Fun and Joy. Neuropathy finially took me off my Skates. Sadly, your Rink is Not one of the 160 or so Rinks I attended during my Skating Days. Now 76, I still get to play in the Skating Game, as I do the Videography for the Kansas City Roller Warriors Roller Derby, here in KC area. In my experience, AGE is an Issue - Your Reaction Times Slow Down, Your Vision Dims (important in Rinks that Run Lights Too Low), Your Hearing Dims, You overall Slow Down, You have reduced Strength and Quickness, You Break Easier, You Injure Easier, and You Heal Slower. BUT, you have Maturity, Experience, Judgement, and in todays world much better Protective Equipment available to use to Reduce and/or Prevent Injuries, IF You choose to get it and use it. For Folks Skating over the age of 35 , and after seeing a few thousand Injuries over my 69 Yr (including recent Roller Derby) Skating career, I recommend Wrist and Knee Protectors, Fore Arm and Elbow Protectors, Hip and Coccyx (Tail-Bone) Protectors be worn by All - whether they Skate Indoors and/or at any Outside Venues (Plus Helmet). These Protectors will reduce the risk of incurring Debilitating Injuries to those areas that can take Folks Off Skates Forever. Repeated unprotected Falls can result in Accumulative Tissue and/or Joint damage - Mostly Preventable. The first time you fall on your Elbow, Hip, Tail Bone, or Fore-Arm should alert you to the Importance of Protecting them. In Truth, I'd like to see All Skaters wearing some version these types of Protection. More Folks could then learn to Skate more easily and safely. More folks could keep Skating and keep Skating much longer in spite of taking Falls. All by mimimizing Fall injuries using Protective Gear. This kind of Protection got me thru Decades of Falling - doing Jumps, Spins, Speed Skating, Dance, Trick Skating, and Roller Stilt Skates (Putting me at 7'9" high). Like you, I'd like for Folks to be able to, and to keep Skating for as long as Possible. I'm certain some will think my suggestions are “Over Kill”. Having seen most every possible Skating Injury over 69yrs (including recent Roller Derby) most of those Injuries would have been significantly Reduced or totally Prevented - had those folks been wearing some form of Protective Gear, and a lot more Folks would still be enjoying Skating, instead of watching from the side of the Rink. Keep Skating and Please Skate Safe SkaterVideoGuy
YES!!! You're speaking my language! I'm 55 and just starting. But my soul was screaming at me to skate again after decades of not skating. So even though I thought I was crazy, I knew I had to go for it. Can't wait to get past the fear and start skating outdoors. My tiny kitchen isn't enough anymore and there are no rinks where I live. But there are some places I think I can try around town, and will be trying this week!
My daughter recommended me your video ❤ my age is 58 😎 more than 40 years passed since my last roller skate 😏 thank you for encouraging 🙏 you are so beautiful 💃👍
I'm 62 and just tried out the new rink in town last week. Haven't skated since the 70's, and even then, not very well. You totally validated everything I was hoping for, and that I felt when I finally tried! I DID get pads for knees and elbows. But kept my center of gravity low, and focused on the techniques I'm aware of. It was so much FUN! I remembered that I wasn't afraid of falling in the past because I am good at falling in a way that doesnt hurt me. Plus I had pads. But I DIDN'T FALL! I focused on my center of gravity, and skating smoothly, and even felt like I became more stable and confident. I'm excited to watch and learn from more of your videos! Thanks for being here!
I have always loved to skate and I wish I would have never stopped! Now I'm 51, have a back problem and am currently healing a broken ankle. Everytime I take my 12 yr old granddaughter skating it's all I can do to keep my butt planted on the bench. Hopefully I can get one skates once again!
I also have a back problem but I started skating at 45 yrs old. I'm careful and take it easy. I definately can't do (yet 😂) what 20 yr olds can do and maybe never will. But who cares? It's all about having fun and I'm having loads of it 😁🛼 Ps. it's also a great way of getting your body back in shape 🥳
Lots of Seniors skating here in Florida, even into their 90's! I skate 3x a week and always glad to help beginners or those who used to skate 30-40 years ago. Good topic! Stick to the level of your ability and you will do fine skating at any age.
Hi Dirty Debbie! Thank you for inspiring me to roller skate! I turned 55 in October 23rd. I've been on keto for the past 10 months lost lots of weight and have lots of energy now. I always loved to watch roller skaters but always to scared to try them myself but now recently for my first time I went roller skating up at the high school tennis court of course with all your help on what to do and not to do. Thank you for coaching and leading me into the right direction!!! ✌️♥️
I skated when I was a kid, but fell fast out of practice over the years. I'm now 50, and I want to come back to skating, but not sure if I should. 😌 I miss skating so much, but I feel young at heart and want to pick up skating again. Also, I want to skate as a way of exercise (I did so back then). 🙂
Started skating March last year it's the best full body workout and now my feet and skates R1 thanks to you sensei and I'm 61 and there was great pain along the way I healed and put the skates back on every time 60 was not too late for me I'm now addicted I got a habit
New to derby in my late 30s - I spent 15 years running regularly, but long Covid and the severe asthma it triggered have put a stop to that. I can skate, slowly improving, but my "game brain" is better than my skating ability and what my nerves and emotions will let me have!
Thank you for this video and to everyone commenting their age and commitments!!! I’m 64 and skated for the first time in over 40 years at my granddaughter’s birthday party last weekend😂😂😂 and I am in love! Really want to dive in. Only have one dinky roller rink in the area with very limited free skating .. so I’m thinking I’ll be going outside. Having said all of that, is there a video on falling ?? I have total hip replacements in both hips and a little osteoporosis in my forearms. I really need to know how to fall !!! Thank you🎉 1:53
Thank you for your encouragement. I have just gotten back into skating and was absolutely terrified after not skating for many years but it has been wonderful and looking forward to learning more than I knew before. Love your videos!
The fact she just moves backwards so gracefully the whole video is just as entertaining as her message is strong. ❤ Trying skating again in my 30s and finding all your videos helpful.
You skate so good and your not even serious right now lol, I could only imagine the heat you bring ! Your like a ballerina on skates #graceful & smooth
Started 1970, Competition 1974-79 (Dennis & Gail Collier), Extra in SkateTown USA (Patrick Swayze Cameo+ Gail collier), Military 1982 and didn’t strap on quads until June 2022! Ankles weak, balance still there, but dodging lil tykes while skating backwards fractured wrist first fall. Next day I was speed skating backwards with cast. I’m fortunate to have opportunity to skate. I volunteered to assist at Parkview Skate in Oregon, just to be back in the 70’s where every day was spent at the rink. Now I’m on the team as Volunteer staff, and back in “Team Skate” working on 3-Turns and Jumps. That’s the big wall after my fall. I have the control into and out of rotations, just can’t get my body airborne!
I’m 49 and have just started to learn. One of the reasons I’m doing it is because someone said that a 35yo was too old to skate. Fed up of this negative ageing narrative! You’re never too old and it’s never too late!! 🛼
Hi Debra! Thanks for all your tutorials 🥰 Do you have any tips for skating in a crowd? I started this summer outside. Now winter has me at the local rink and it caters to the middle school crowd 😆but it's fine by me. I'm just here to get out of the house. But my goodness those kids are chaos
Thank you!! My mom was a skating teacher and I grew up watching her and doing it by her side. She migrated to the U.S and starting working hard and didn't make time or knew where to go... I'll be 39 this month and I was afraid to be too old. Thank you for your encouragement, I will be in South Beach early to get back on track.🛼✨🚀 ❤
I’m 42 and I used to skate as a child and young adult and I loved it so much but when I was 32 I got on skates and got the floor broke my tail bone in 2 places. I’ve wanted to get back up but my ptsd wouldn’t let me. I watched your video on how to stand and not look at the floor and I have mastered my living room floor! I’m so excited for my protection gear to come in! I want to go to skating rink but they do not allow any protection gear… why is that?
Hi Dirty Deb. Love your videos! I'm 54 and have been skating since a kid growing up in Wisconsin and still love it. I don't skate as often as I'd like, but always happy when I get out there, have fun and remain safe. These days I enjoy outdoor trail skating in Colorado with beautiful views of Pikes Peak and the Pueblo Reservoir and occasional visits to the local rinks. I'm looking forward to visiting Tampa soon and bringing the skates to enjoy outdoors. I'm also bringing the skates to CA in June to skate the Newport beach boardwalk with my daughter. I can't wait! 🛼
God bless you I just bought a pair of roller skates I just turn 60 . I use to skate when I was young. I looked up senior skaters I found you. ❤ I am out of shape had a very heard past two years I need to get healthy. Roller skating I always loved . So I just subscribed to your channel to get me started. Thank you
Been watching your channel since before pandemic and still. First time skating and I’ve been using your 15 minute video of practicing and it’s given me confidence
I bought my first pair of rollerskates for my 50th birthday during the pandemic. I taught my self how to skate forward and stop in my living room while under quarantine. Almost 2 years now and my goal is to master rollerskating backwards.
I'm 71. It's been 43 years since I last roller skated.. In 2 days I'm taking my granddaughter roller skating. Wish me luck... lol Thank you for your great pep talk..
73 and still skating, with no plans to stop.
🙌🙌
My hero! 🦸🏼♀️🛼💖
Because of you I will be going skating next week .
I'm over sixty five and bought four different types of great skates. I was paralyzed and on sticks for years so I'm sick of it! I'm ready to move.I'm ready to ride my horse.
Thank you for your comment, I'm 61 and have begun skating again!
I’m 53 and just started learning 🎉 Love your videos! I’m practicing daily in my home. I cannot believe I’m doing this😊
Good for you. I skated in my 20's. I'm now 47 and I've decided to start again. My 14yr old thinks I'm a bit nuts 🤣 I have a fab new pair of skates and like you I'm starting to practise at home. Never too old for ANYthing! 💚
Same!! 53 and just starting! It makes me feel sooooo good! Lots to learn!
Don't forget to support your local roller rink. I skate every chance I get, usually on Friday "Teen night" with my 8 year old son. He recently joined the local roller rink speed team and he loves the comraderie and team atmosphere. We skate at Aurora Skate Center in Aurora IL.
Oldest in our group was 93 until duck tape on the floor, took him down, then pills took his memory away 😰Dorothy says 👆👌✌️🤌❤️👀
53 and converted my basement into a rink. Every time someone reacts like I'm too old and that I might fall, it just encourages me to keep rolling.
I'm almost 60 and I skate 2× weekly or more. I have been told I am too old but I tell them I'm moving and healthy unlike their mouth moving and UNhealthy
Exactly
😂❤
Like who decided that over any age is too old to skate? 🤷🏼♀️
I'm 57 years old and can still do a double flip on roller skates!! You're never too old it's all about taking care of yourself... I've had double hip replacement surgery from years of skating, but can still roller skate thanks to my surgeons.
Can hip damage be avoided? Newbie here!
The double flip🖕🖕 or you actually talking somersaults lol
Wow!
What is proper gear for an older person (66) returning after being an artistic skater years ago. Thank you.
@n81727 are you still roller skating, if so what grear do you normally use? @n81727
54 and skatin’. Today I learned a ton from a skater in their 60’s.
Managing expectations, learning technique, and building skills and strength…thanks to you.
Hy hy madam fitness
Wow...that is wonderful!
You are my hero and inspiration. I’m 59 and want to keep skating as long as possible.
I am 66, overweight and used to be a great artistic skater. I have knee and ankle issues that I’m working on. Can I skate????
@@lisacoto9638 I am sure you can...no back flips! Just take it slow and find out what you can do and no back flips the first day!
Your story is exactly mine and I want to skate again so much but wasn’t sure if it would come back to me. We used to go skating for years twice a week or more. Loved it.
You go girl!!!!!!!🎉
I’m 68, bought skates and now…..I’m working on staying healthy and skating is helping me.
I'm 46 and this Summer I will try skating again....OMG....😄
Yaaaas!!! I'm right there with ya!!!
You can do!!!
Same!
Love it! Steve, first time beginner skater, age 70. 😢😊
Thank you so much for your patience and fabulous videos and I will
GO PRACTICE
Barbara Salway
Thank you teaching us for how many years!! but now i become a pro now !!!!!! im so happy and im 13 years old🙂😁🤩
I'm glad you did this video.
What's your rink?
49 and just starting. It’s terrifying but feel the fear and do it anyway!
@@mattsenft4810 My furtherest north/northwest rink was the Orbit in Palantine. Is Aurora still operational?
This is exactly what the world needs to hear Deb! I love your passion and it inspires so many in their skating journeys! This applies to any skill you want to learn.
Well said! You’re an ambassador for living evergreen 🌲 Thank you so much for all the lessons and positive vibes, Dirty & team!! You help me stay brave at 44.
Thanks also to everyone here sharing their stories. Glad to be in good company. 🙂
I got my skates last November inspired by all the beautiful flow on socials. It’s become an important part of my healing journey - body, mind and spirit 💕
Wow soo nice minds think alike 😍 ousam
This makes me feel more motivated to skate. Thank you for all the years of teaching!
I started to skate in my late 50's haven't been in years. Want to go back. I'm in my 60"s now.
NEVER too old to roller skate! I’m 57.
Started 5/2022 turned 60 7/2022. I make small progressions every time I go to the rink which is progression even though small. Benefits many levels of my being. Go roll! Thanks for the videos ❤
Great question here - is it really about your age?
Hi my name is Annette I saw your comment and just had to tell you I’m 61 I take my grandkids skating and I sit there wishing I could join them and then I came across your comment I’m afraid of trying thinking I’m to old but maybe I’ll try
Do it! Even if it’s hard at first , it will get easier as you practice. It’s the best feeling!!!
I skated a bunch as a kid and got back into it in my mid-30's. I will stop skating when they physically pull me off the rink!!!!
Love this!!
I needed this pep talk… still trying to master backwards and you’re helping so much 😊
I'm 66 I used to skate alot in my 20s-30s and then some in my 40s when my son was young then quit a long time..he suggested last year we get skates and do it again..I'm lucky to have a nice rink nearby.
Fantastic video. You're an inspiration! Thank you from England 💚
Love this I have been skating for 12 years but was wondering if I should continue now 52 years old. Thank you. Perfect word axx
Started last March, got skates for my 63rd birthday! Having the best times, ever!!! Xoxo ❤️
I started in 76' (age 12) and still gliding at least two sessions a week. Thanks for verbalizing what it's all about DDH!
Hello Dirty Deborah Harry,
Just found your Channel.
Keep Skating and Please Skate Safe
SkaterVideoGuy
47, skated when I was in middle school just started back up again. The best part of being old and skating is being able to afford your own skates!
Bingo!
It's all about having fun and I'm having loads of it 😁🛼
Ps. it's also a great way of getting your body back in shape 🥳
Aww I love this. 💖 I’m 31 and want to learn to skate. I was on rollerblades as a kid but couldn’t get the hang of quads.
You’re inspirational - havent skated for 30 years and everything you said hit home, thank you!!!
Omg Debbie thank you for helping me get my motivation back!!!! Be happy for making others happy 😘
Girl you're my hero and I have seen much older skaters!!!
For me ! I have to always make time.
Luv your skating videos! You are always so encouraging! Planning on getting back into skating, after decades of a recess!
Debbie! I am over 60 and you have encouraged me to go back to skating! Thank you so much! Wish I could meet you but I live far away. I love you!
I started skating again at 36. I love it. It's great exercise and fun.
Wish we had a skating rink where I live
Well said! I love your spirit and I think you are bang on! I am 55 and I started 6 month ago! I love your videos and learn tons from them!!
Thank you🎉 1:53
This is so informative. I'm 53 and haven't skated in over 20 years and I'm a little a nervous but really would love to do it again.
I'm at Disneyland for a vacation and saw the skating center is only 20 min away. I'm going tomorrow hope you are there so I can meet you.
I love all forms of skating, inlines, quads and on ice! Sixty two and loving it more than even when I was in my teens! 👍🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
All skating is great skating :)
I’m 61 and having fun learning to skate. 🛼
You skate so good and your not even serious right now lol, I could only imagine the heat you bring ! Your like a ballerina on skates #graceful & smooth
I agree
@@kaleema1987 I was just like zamnnnnn she can skate 😂😂😂😂

The rink I go to does not prohibit it, I don't see any benefit to them to ban protective gear?!

skating is a good relatively inexpensive hobby. theres no age limit.
❤ your are very necessary ❤ thank you Deb
Been watching your channel since before pandemic and still. First time skating and I’ve been using your 15 minute video of practicing and it’s given me confidence
not you gliding effortlessly, you look so graceful! I'm 24 and about to take my first class on Saturday, thank you for this video!
I bought my first pair of rollerskates for my 50th birthday during the pandemic. I taught my self how to skate forward and stop in my living room while under quarantine. Almost 2 years now and my goal is to master rollerskating backwards.
51 here and started skating two years ago when my boyfriend gave me skates for Mothers Day 😊❤️
I'm 71. It's been 43 years since I last roller skated.. In 2 days I'm taking my granddaughter roller skating. Wish me luck... lol Thank you for your great pep talk..
