I made the same upgrade a few years ago. The Rift S was just too blurry for me, ok for the likes of IL2 but for DCS and MSFS where you need to be able the read the screens it just wasn’t up to it. The G2 was brilliant, and paired with a 4090 I could start running IL2 and DCS at native Render scales. I upgraded to the Crystal earlier this year. Clarity wise it’s on a different level, but I found that to get the very best out it my MB, CPU and RAM were a bit underpowered. I’ve just taken delivery of a new PC and that should, hopefully, solve those problems. Get my flight sims on an M2 drive with a 14900 CPU and 64Gig of fast RAM, paired with a 4090. But I do agree, the G2 is a brilliant headset.

I bought the Reverb G2 in 2021 when it was released. It was my first VR headset ever (and also the only one until today), I found it so terrible that I returned it directly after 2 days of testing. The FOV is bad, but what is much worse is the sweetspot. It was only sharp in the very middle, everything else not. Maybe I'm expecting too much from VR, don't know. But I said to myself: If this is what VR headsets can do nowadays, then this technology is still FAR away from what I think is acceptable. Now we are 3 years further and I'm hoping to find something that's significantly better than the Reverb G2 without needing to pay >1000€/$. I will probably have a look at the Quest III, seems to be a good overall package.

I just purchased the Quest 3. For the most part it looks pretty good. Better than my PSVR2 in any case; however, the setup using all of these software packs like virtual desktop and XR toolkit is a PITA. I'm going to use it for a bit but I'm not sure that I want to keep it as it was 800 dollars Canadian, not including taxes, and I'm not sure it totally satisfies me. The Pimax sounds like it has better visual quality, but the downside of that headset is the massive size of it.

They are selling 5GB for £469, if they could sell one with QLED local dimming & Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps) port. USB-C uses the Thunderbolt port so it may be easier with regard to using the same body. QLES is more energy efficient so would improve battery life...

Funny how us humans are so very different from one person to the other, everyone's eyes and head shape so very different. A few YT'ers have mentioned Screen Door Effect (SDE) for the Quest 3 yet I see zero SDE with mine but since using the Quest 3, I now see very faint SDE in my Reverb G2V2.
Agreed, the Quest 3 is hard to beat, it's optics are incredible for it's price point, as for compression, it is a LOT better than the Quest 2 or Pico 4 (old XR2 chip). I'd say very close to the G2 but not quite there, the G2 still offers a bit better clarity especially for things in the distance.
Personally, for anyone thinking of getting a Pico 4, save a little more, the Quest 3 is quite a bit better (yes, I have both HMDs). The thing you have to keep in mind as Steve mentioned, you will have to budget for a aftermarket head strap, the stock one is pathetic at best and extremely uncomfortable, something like the BoBoVR M3 or new S3 (expensive) makes the Quest 3 a joy to wear. :)

If you use the Quest 3 connection via the link cable, it is not enough for power and the battery in the headset still drains, because the USB on the PC can only provide 0.5 A of current, the headset consumes 18 W. But there is already a perfect solution, on e-shops you can buy 5 m long cables to connect the headset to the PC, which have a box near the USB port to the PC, in which there is a connector into which the Quest 3 charging source is plugged. This provides enough current and the headset does not discharge and you can play for an unlimited time .

I got to try the Crystal recently and the clarity is amazing but I found myself suffering progressively worsening eye strain whilst sim racing and came to the realisation it was due to the 1m focal distance they’ve used instead of the 2m industry standard. The result was the same eye strain fatigue you feel on typical VR headsets when you try to focus your eyes on objects less than half a meter away but this time it was happening for far distant viewing on the crystal whilst sim racing. (For reference, I have 20-20 vision).

Its not about the vr headset, its about your brain. Most if not all people will suffer from motion sickness when they first get into vr. But just by using it, your brain will get more and more used to the motion, and eventually you will be "immune" to motion sickness. Although, if your lenses aren't optimised to your vision properly, that could definitely make you motion sick, so make sure to check that out.

Is it just me or am I seeing a ton of micro-stutters on the first few headsets? Could it be the recording software causing that? I'd like to see some video of you moving your head faster than the slow pan. That's when I get immersion breaking stutters on my Quest 3.

I own PICO Neo 3 Link. Tomorrow I am going to get PICO 4. I tieid PICO 3 on wi-fi and it was not bad. I have RTX 4090. I would like to ask. Do you recommend to change some setting in WIN11, Nvidia driver for PICO 4? Also I remember there were some setting within MSFS in some folder where we could make colours nicer etc..do I need to touch this setting?

I'd recommend you to stick with the 3 Link. Pico 4's image quality is only slightly better but can be sometimes worse than the 3 due to compression. You will however enjoy the comfort and ease of use.

OK, I tested new P4 with MSFS and VD not SteamVR. The image is better than P3, pencake lenses are much better than fresnel lenses. FOV, clarity much nicer. Without DP cable, I cannot see further but image clarity is worth it. I need to test few more games and I will decide. Most likely will sell P3.

Well I have the Quest 3 and looks very good for my SIM racing games. I don't do Flight SIM games even though I have one installed from STEAM.
I also have an HP Reverb G2 V2 and hate it. Even though it has high resolutions, it has a very small and terrible sweet spot. I can't keep my eyes centered in this device. So this device is sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
PICO they can all go pound sand. They don't want to sell there products in the US, then I don't care to even look at or recognize them. Whether Politics or not.
The other headsets are just too expensive for my budget. I am waiting for the Crystal Lite video reviews when the headsets are released. Although, I am hesitant on getting PIMAX products from reading honest reviews.
    That is my opinion. Bye.

@@PaddyPatrone Agreed. Once you fly in VR there’s no going back. My only concession would be Track IR for those sims that don’t support VR or Flaming Cliffs 3 in DCS where the cockpits aren’t interactive. VR flying is the most immersive gaming experience I ever had. I still gawp in amazement every time I fly in VR.
