I would love to see a terminal design where you can build a super long glass box with an isolated metro within it (example is Terminal A, Detroit Metropolitan Airport where the metro is an automatic skytrain)
Talking about road detailing from Dundee to Paterson: What about a service station combined with a boat rent dealer at the lake, where you can rent a boat and spent your time out on the lake.
@Ander • it depends on the size of the reservoir. Close to the dam swimming and boating isn't permitted, but if the reservoir is large enough, they often have lakeside communities or recreational areas around them.
Love the episode. For the next episode, I suggest making a small truck stop with a petrol station and an abandoned-looking motel. Maybe also a few vineyards on the mountains and small areas of forest and maybe in the forest there is a trailer park where a bunch of blood-thirsty hippies lives. Similar to Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness trailer park from GTA 5. Maybe also an Area for a highly secure government building that runs Oceania. I don't honestly but I think these would look cool and make for a scenic route. A lot of inspiration from GTA my friend :).
Your (excellent!) heavy equipment rental/sales on the corner made me think the highway department may have a small maintenance depot somewhere on the long road leading from Dundee. I could also imagine an occasional single residence off the highway for those who just don't want to live in the city. A small, worn, concrete block pub. The old cemetery.
I like "Prospector's Way" (or "Prospect's Way") for the new town. It's close to two rivers, so I can easily imagine it starting out as a gold-prospecting settlement. It also has a nice mix of old and new buildings which you can RP as part of the gold rush. I feel like it needs a closed railway station though. Its ofc quite close to Paterson, but an old town like that would have had its own station.
Prospect's Way is a great name and I the history you imagined is a great backstory. I also thought there should be an old railways station that was abandoned years ago once the new one was built in Patterson.
From Orange myself so loving these episodes. There's a lot of 'twin towns' in Australia, a couple in NSW are Harden-Murrumburrah and Wyalong-West Wyalong. Both have gold mining history, so definitely check em out on wikipedia and google earth
Another great episode! I'm a huge fan of the smaller finer detail's that really capture the town. I've said it already but this town honestly reminds me of the towns in the south west. Well done ...also a big thumbs up from me regarding an airport!
Love the smaller idustrial/agricultural town vibe, hoping for more of them. Even if it is Australian inspired, still has so many beats of out of the way south island towns in NZ. On a name idea, how about Rockwell, maybe going for naming the river on its outskirts the same? I'd love to see something like arrowtown in NZ or something similarly inspired, a bit more of a historic town, maybe closer to the lakeside.
I'd love to see some places at the reservoir where people can drive to and go swimming. Maybe also with a couple of boats you can rent. Absolutely love your work btw!
10:51 you could add farm fencing to make property lines. A lot of open spaces just outside of town are privately owned so boundary fences would make sense. Instead of fencing you can add a line of bushes and scrub trees to simulate the edge of a property. 😁
for the highway improvement project, I’d expect to see a small town around the lake. I think it would be most realistic to put farmlands and grain silos off of the highway
Great episode as always, but to answer your question at the end: by the lake I would definitely expect to see a small boat ramp, or even a marina of some kind, along with a park area which would support both tent and trailer camping.
You should build a little hippie commune out in the mountains nestled in a little valley. Also, I noticed that the small strip mall parking lot has a terrible design. The exit is a left turn only onto a highway with the next turn around miles later, no one would ever go there.
This new town kinda reminds me of a lot of towns in the snowy mountains, like Tumut. I also reckon that might be a pretty cool idea to build a town up in the mountains of Oceania.
I would like a swamp near the lake or something just to make it more interesting. I might seem a bit odd but I think it gives the towns more character and natural features rather than concrete.

I love it when I see another one of your videos, it's just so awesome to see how your city/map evolves over time. I love all the little details, keep up the amazing work!
Again, very nice one. Just a small note: there's crazy traffic coming from the opposite of your "little pocket", crossing the highway with its barrier, as the truck at 13:38 (the dog incident) and for example the car at 17:45. Just dis-tmpe the straights maybe?
I missed all that but was going to bring up the same intersection. If the barriers work, then the traffic exiting the strip mall can't go back to town. They're forced to take the highway in the opposite direction.
Something that might work on that lake you made is a small neighborhood along the lake edge with a marina or boat ramp at the end of one of the streets.
I've actually seen those a bit here in California. They tend to be JUST off to the side of the highway like those along Interstate 80, Highway 99, or Interstate 5. They're not frequent encounters by any means, but I've seen them before a few times.
Probably on the highway closer to Dundee there could be under construction suburb development, horse riding area and stables for those rich suburbs and big supermarket outside of the town
The exit of the shopping"center" forces you to drive up the highway, then find a way to turnaround. Seems a bit off, since that would be a highway with a long drive before a turning point or exit. But I could be wrong
THIS! I kept hoping he would fix it the whole video lol. I also feel like the area needs about double the residential to support it. Too much commercial compared to residential, there wouldn't be enough employees or customers.
The generic commercial behind the strip mall could be replaced with a worn-down lumberyard/lumber company, is a great transition from city to woodlands, I believe =)
You should put a 2 or 3 car railcar on that train line to make it more realistic You will never see such a big train on a small, slow, low demand line in real life.
Great episode, been looking forward to it! On the train lines, when your network is complete around Oceania, you should detail it with signals, speed limit signs, huts, overhead wires/ third rails, etc!
Name suggestion for the new small town is Lawson. Named after one of Banjo Patersons contemporaries Henry Lawson. He had a lot to do with the NSW country town of Leeton. The damn area near Paterson reminds me of Cotter Dam in Canberra.
In terms of the name for the town, since you named Paterson after Banjo Paterson, perhaps you could name the small town Matilda, as in Waltzing Matilda? Or, you mentioned that the area was inspired by Bathurst. Bathurst was named after Lord Henry Bathurst, a British politician from the 17/1800s. Some other names of British lords/politicians around that time include: Clancarty, Dunlo, Eden, Perceval, Gladstone, Cardwell, Alderley, Chamberlain. Any of those could potentially work? Also, in regard to what could be along the highway, I reckon a few pitstops, car dealerships, motels, etc. But what about a 'Big Thing'? Like something Big Banana-esque that is just somewhere people visit when they're passing through? I know you've already done it with the gold nugget, but would be good to see more of them!
Maybe the history of the town is that when padisson decided to become a university town, they desided they would want to stay a more agricultural town. But sinds padisson got so much larger is basically became a poor industrial area on the edge of town. Also some ideas for the highway is a couple of viewpoints, one maybe on the pass and another above the lake. Even maybe a side road that leads to a camping site by the lake could be cool. And perhaps a tourist trap somewhere along the way as well.
I suggest for the next episode building a small town like the one near Paddison, however, this town used to be a rest stop for travelers between Dundee and Paddison. It has since been bypassed by the highway and has gone through a steep economic decline ever since the construction of the highway and has experienced a lot of abandonment. And maybe build a brand new small truck stop with some sort of fast-food joint. This should be a cool contrast between the old and the new. The name for the town could be ... Pass.
I noticed a couple of times that where the dog and the old man crossed the highway, there were also cars crossing. In itself ok, but there is a guardrail that should actually prevent that. Only a little thing to fix.
Lovely Episode! On the road, maybe a nice small town, that has been bypassed, with a small café and a pie shop - that sells Oceania's Best Meat Pie. Once, a while back, it was a stop along the road, where travellers would pause for a coffee, stretch the legs, and sit in a park - but now it is a little run down, with weary townsfolk who miss the good ol' days. The bypass snakes around the town, and on either side of the freeway are some fast-food chains, built with large gas stations, which ward the car travellers away from entering the town. This kind of thing happened a lot along the Hume Highway, which is why it take 10 hours to get from Sydney to Melbourne, and not 12+ as it used to. Maybe, the town is still a little busy, because travellers have to enter the town, to get to a weekend retreat, bush-walks, or camping... possibly it is the route into the mountains for winter skiing? But that would give it a purpose, beyond "run down town on the freeway".
This reminds me of Jugiong, off the Hume Highway. There is this amazing hotel there called the Sir George. It is hidden gem with fantastic meals from local produce. It's a great alternative to the big service centres and always has a bustling outdoor dining area whenever we go.
@@pcsl86 :: I have never stopped there, but do remember speeding past on the motorway - after a quick check of google maps. I'll have to remember a stop next time we go past.
The settlement should not be given a name of its own. As i see it is that there used to be a few houses but never so many that it would be a town. Later when Paterson started to prosper, then indrustry just expanded there because of the good transport connections Adding a truckstop is good idea and maybe a tiny marina on the reservoir or some summerhomes on the lakeside.
A small Caravan Park, with some boat ramps and such on the Dam would look great. For inspiration take a look at places like Wyangala Dam and Burrendong Dam
Great build at Paterson! I think on the road to Paterson a small size State park would be very appropriate. Someplace where Patersonites and Dundeers would go for a day trip, with trails, bbq site, swimming and a tenting areas.
LOVE THE ENTIRE SERIES, next episode you should look a little into making the route to Paterson a little more lively, perhaps make the highway a paid route and then make an old, very long road that is a free route, with some rest stops and such, maybe a little town, this is where I beg you to do something about New Zealand, perhaps just a little shop or two, some houses and then the rest is spread out around the area and along the free route, New Zealand has a serious housing problem so there is a lot of farmland being divided into housing development sites (houses with less than 1 meter from each other with absolutely no privacy. New Zealand towns are all connected by intercity buses and there are lots of air clubs, I imagine that Australia has even more of these air clubs so I think Paterson and some new towns along the old road should have one in between, you should also look into intercity buses, it really helps tourist traffic to flow between both Paterson and Dundee, and it is an easy network to set up and expand, other than that nothing really should be changed, every episode takes my breath away and you are an amazing builder. REALLY enjoyed how you stood up for Mooders today, thank you for such amazing content.
Nice ep! I like the idea of a truckstop, maybe combined with some gas pumps and a small diner? I would also love to see some kind of summer camp near that beautiful lake. Maybe draw some inspiration from Camp Krusty?😬
Loving the episode and the small town! Name Suggestion: Blue Creek - The town could have started near the water's edge but then has moved towards the highway as the years passed.
With the rundown vibes, agriculture feel, one main Street and a single hotel, single car/tyre shop and strip shop - I'm getting very Schitts Creek vibes for this small town, especially when it's nestled between the rivers too. So some name inspired by Schitts Creek? Love the content as per usual 🙂
Just started the episode, but the idea of smashing two towns together sounds a lot like what happened about 10 minutes down the road from where I grew up in Auckland. They were Huapai and Kumeu and they grew up so close together that even locals of 60+ years couldn't tell you where one ended and the other started without a map of the postcodes. And that was before all the surrounding land got subdivided into oblivion
I feel like you often see gourmet food destinations between major Australian cities and regional towns. For example, chocolate factories and ice creameries, usually with some big tour buses parked outside. Might be a cute idea for a spot between Dundee and Paterson.
You know what would be super unusual but definitely seen along Australian rural freeways is a weighbridge. Additionally, a rest stop (which is just a parking lot with a toilet) would be a great feature as well. I think some speed camera installations would be a great idea as well!
Considering how Patterson and the new town lie on the same old main road, it would be interesting if their history involved the new town becoming a little more dusty due to Patterson being a little more desirable, causing the town to be somewhat derelict with its' condition. Also maybe some random viewpoints along the highway could be interesting as tourists can easily stop by.
I don't know if Australia has catfish, but in Tennessee there would be a catfish restaurant on the side of the reservoir lake above the dam. there's a nice space for a fisherman's restaurant next to the highway beside the reservoir. Could be one of those nice "out of town" type restaurants on the side of the highway.
There has to be an abandoned rail line somewhere. It doesn't even have to be the full rails; Just very decrepit tracks and awkward stretches of dirt and gravel. You see these things all over the world, but I'm particularly talking about some of the California rail lines around Vallejo.
On the road to Paterson , I suggest placing some areas for picnics or camping sights or even fishing spots , Along with some small buildings to support them . Or maybe some Flats districts? I personally could see that work . In a nice quiet area with those camping sights or fishing places could fit in great .
on the drive between Melbourne and Adelaide, and probably elsewhere, you see even tinier towns that're basically just 3 houses and a shop, and they're built onto the highway. I'd take some inspiration from the town of Keith in SA, particularly the roadhouse there, if I were you.
On the opposite side of the lake from the dam, maybe use that space as a "state park" type area or even like a county park. Idk how yall do it in Australia but you know what i mean? parking, picnic areas, big fields, tree clusters, some little sports attractions, a boat ramp and dock, etc etc. I feel like its a good space and a great alternative use for the reservoir.
Well, great video as always. I dont know why, but this little town near Paterson, the mix betwen modern stuff and olds structures reminds me a town with old history but trying to change to be more contemporary with this "fusion" with Paterson. So I think "Victoria" match with this idea for a name's city. Or "Victoria something" I d'ont know haha. (sorry with my english, greeting from france !)
You could put a campsite next to the lake! Makes sense as a scenic stop... Also add a shuttle bus from the university to the town/train station. Lots of campuses have that.
that lake along the Highway definitely needs to be some kind of national park or touristic area, can`t imagine how someone doesn´t want to go swimming there
I think an indigenous name for the small town would make sense. Wiradjuri people are the native people of the Bathurst region, and their word for little brother is Gagamin, as this town is the "little brother" to Paterson. Another Wiradjuri word which could work would be Wangarra, which means "to dig" in reference to the agriculture and to the industry - plus the digger rental on the edge of town.
Feels like there should be a pull off to a little fishing area with a boat ramp on the lake. Could be a small town, lead to a summer camp, or just be more of a park where people go to spend the day on the water.
Patterson really reminds me of Cambridge, NZ for some reason. With that in mind, maybe you could create a rowing centre/ club and buoyed course on the dammed lake. The university could use it and offer rowing scholarships, etc
I think that lake just as you're coming into Paterson would make for a nice fishing spot so maybe a little campsite or an old abandoned cabin could go there? Also, maybe the little town could be called Paters or Patersville or something like that, as though it was built before Paterson, then Paterson was named after it but grew bigger. Like how the human origin of the surname Paterson is Son of Patrick.
Just a quick question, are the billboards on the way into new small town on the correct side of the highway? The out bound side . Top job on the new town mate, well done.
I think you should build a small town up the top of the map based off of the Gold Coast or Coolangatta, would fit the map very well. If you want to see it in cities skylines I have shared some screenshots in the discord of my city that’s based of Coolangatta/surfers paradise.
If I may suggest. I would look for building suburban house projects, or medium estates under development. It gives the surrounding land colours and the impression of investments occuring. A transition of old pasture and farmlands. Which is one essential aspect of city building and development.
I would suggest on the long stretch having a truck stop with a park and bathrooms, also a cool little thing I’ve done is actually make small little suburb neighborhoods, it fills in space and boosts population
I like the name Riverina for the offshoot of Patterson. If memory serves, it is a region of New South Wales - so very much on theme; and, the village is geographically on the river's edge, so it would make sense.
The small town could be named Lighting Valley as it in a valley and is near a desert and it has that transition feel between the farmlands and the desert as it would be dusty. It history can be extend back before Patterson as like the first town, but then the town mayor decied to build a better town near the river.
- Wellness Retreat/Sanitorium - rural car dealership - commune (religious or other) - gated village - caravan/trailer park - lived in nature reserve (log cabins) - old mine converted to residential district with huge cog as a monument at the entrance - meadows and single farm separated by a major road but with overhead sheep/cattle bridge linking meadows - County fire/police/ambulance station/hq/vehicle bay - small army/militia base - community aerodrome - swamp/marshlands - RenFair ground/village - conert/Festival/circus fairground - community pool with small tourist shops and the occasional home - a shop/home that sells garden sculptures (I live near the famous butterfly man in Wales who sells 1metre metal butterflies you put on the side of your house. His home has quite a few on it) - garden centre - a large weird sculpture and servo/petrol station (WA biggest tomato or something) - a tourist recreation of Hobbiton or some other fantasy town - a theme or water park - a paintball area - a 'dark Sky area' to view the stars - prehistoric aboriginal paintings or dwellings on/in rock walls - out-of-town light manufacturing to service... - a trailer village and store for good, honest, working class folks - maybe an LGBTQIA+ district in the city? - prison complex - immigration centre - rally or racing circuit - model village (P.O. ahoy!) - a small residential bilingual district of New Aussies from abroad. - railyard - junkyard
It will be amazing to see something like these art pieces in the middle of the desert like in Arizona, or some older abandoned wood astralian houses in the middle of nowhere.
Polite request - when you place a billboard, could you zoom in and linger a bit so we get a chance to read them? The ones I've seen are hilarious but I've also missed a few too!
I could see a recreational area on the lake for boating and swimming on the far side of the lake away from the dam. Somewhere to go from Paterson as a day trip, or even having a campground or trailer park for an overnight trip from Dundee
Not the most beautiful thing, but something realistic you might see on the road to Paterson is some commuter suburbs under construction where a developer has bought some farmland and subdivided it. You always seem to find them along major highways.
Love this idea
And often here in the US anyway they don't feed directly into the highway but are accessed from it via an interchange, a major road, and minor road.
Was thinking exactly the same thing. Making them very dense as the builder takes advantage of the lower cost of land.
"These modders have lives outside of modding."
Not entirely sure about that one!

In most of dams it's illegal to swim. Don't know if renting boats would be. Good idea tho

Pass.
Something I really enjoy about the drive between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast is the massive state forest. It’s just got something to it.
Later when Paterson started to prosper, then indrustry just expanded there because of the good transport connections
Adding a truckstop is good idea and maybe a tiny marina on the reservoir or some summerhomes on the lakeside.
For the highway detailing, how about an old coaling station along the train tracks?
Can't wait for next episode 🤗
A small Caravan Park, with some boat ramps and such on the Dam would look great. For inspiration take a look at places like Wyangala Dam and Burrendong Dam
17:23 in my (irl) town, there are four gas stations on the same intersection, each taking up a corner. having these two is perfectly realistic.
I think you should add a lookout spot on the lake or mountain. You see these quite often driving around Australia.
Great work! I would suggest some kind of cable car/mountain lookout on the pass between the cities. Like tourist spot with great views of Dundee
Big fan of the intro/outro music in this one!
Need something on the dam, like recreation areas, boat ramp or a camp grounds.
Patterson and the new town remind me of Albury-Wodonga on the Vic NSW border. Except separated by a highway instead.
On the highway you could have a rail memorial to the old train system
I suggest an abandoned mining town or even a town submerged by the artificial lake.
The latter would have to be nothing but PO buildings and structures, though it sounds cool all the same.
If you want to see it in cities skylines I have shared some screenshots in the discord of my city that’s based of Coolangatta/surfers paradise.
that first song drove me insane it was one note repeating over and over again
If I may suggest. I would look for building suburban house projects, or medium estates under development. It gives the surrounding land colours and the impression of investments occuring. A transition of old pasture and farmlands. Which is one essential aspect of city building and development.
Where the highway passes near the dam would make a nice little picnic / fishing spot.
I would suggest on the long stretch having a truck stop with a park and bathrooms, also a cool little thing I’ve done is actually make small little suburb neighborhoods, it fills in space and boosts population
Hell yeah, pumped for the Port build, my favourite part of cities
Every time i watch this series i always think how can you make something look so good
Please add more trains to the train line to Patterson. The train comes like every 5 years
This is coming along nicely!
I feel like the QLD section of the map should be like Cairns. Maybe like a touristy town with corals and fishing industries. Just a cool idea

I’d love to see a ghost town.
Reminds me of Albury/Wodonga. Rugby and AFL posts.
Two Towns with unique aspects but also well connected
It will be amazing to see something like these art pieces in the middle of the desert like in Arizona, or some older abandoned wood astralian houses in the middle of nowhere.
Polite request - when you place a billboard, could you zoom in and linger a bit so we get a chance to read them? The ones I've seen are hilarious but I've also missed a few too!
Because the little town I between two rivers I would call it Portage, from when the first people portaged to the other river.
I could see a recreational area on the lake for boating and swimming on the far side of the lake away from the dam. Somewhere to go from Paterson as a day trip, or even having a campground or trailer park for an overnight trip from Dundee
Could imagine a small, old, outdated but still used small lakeside resort…maybe from the 50s-60s
Come on, Bonnie Doon. :P
