5:45 Your attention to detail is absolutely fantastic, I love how you put a camera inside of the highway patrol car, by the edge of the highway facing out! Gave me a good chuckle, keep up the good work
For the long walk path. I did something similar, where I banned all but service/delivery vehicles and made a park with just enough attraction to get walkers. Car parking either side of the path helped. As well as making the main attraction point equal distance between each entrance.
Yeah he really doesn’t add enough of that it seems like I wish other regions of Oceania were also represented as Oceania isn’t just Australia and New Zealand
That comment about cabins maybe being a common thing in New Zealand is actually accurate, cos in New Zealand there's a network of public huts that trampers can use to stay in for the night that number close to a thousand huts.
I've got some mountain names :) Mt. Cradock - City name Cradock (possibly a new city name?) Mt. Victoria - The British Queen Mt. Unaipon - The aboriginal author
I think a really interesting addition may be wineries if possible? seems pretty random but when you enter the country just around cities here is Australia they tend to be pretty popular - especially around Canberra and Melbourne. I think that might be a fun, unique build and serves both farming and tourism needs! Australia is actually pretty big in the wine industry right now due to our climate and I think that would be cool to reflect in this city - it kinda feels like inside knowledge that foreigners probably wouldn't know! Great work so far - your attention to detail always fascinates me!!
You need more rural homesteads in the middle of nowhere. Like a round the lake. Like 4- 10 houses in the middle of nowhere with old cars in their yards
I suppose a name of another significant polish person would suit Oceania well, since the biggest mountain in Australia is named after a polish general, Kosciuszko. My idea is Sobieski Mountain, but there is a lot of names you could use ;)
I like this idea (I'm not polish btw lol) because it gives dept to the city's history. It implies that there are immigrant communities around Oceania and that they had significant contributions to the city's history, which makes it more complex.
being polish, this is a great idea, there should also be a "kosciuszko high street" style road in dundee (maybe something historical, maybe even a statue of him)
Something unique to major Australian cities is Government House, which you should look at placing into the main city. They’re usually tucked away in the side and serve as the residence for the State Governor or premier. Surrounded by luscious gardens and the building is always so nice.
'people start collecting vehicles in their yard the further out you go' From the country, can confirm, my parents have multiple vehicles sitting around, in various states of disassembly
Dude I love this series sooo much. Your cities feel so alive and real that I want to live in those places. You have done SUCH a great job. Much support and love!
Oceania is by far and away your best series!!! Love what you’ve done in this one. The idea of putting interesting things on the side of a highway, the stuff you’d see on a road trip … just awesome. Well done 👌👌👌
7:10 I live in Brazil and I can guarantee that these roads are so much common cuz people likes to go to river do fishing in those places that are far away from everything. But literally everywhere are these roads.
I'm not sure if you've already done this and I just missed it, but I think it would be neat if there was an abandoned mining sector. I've always loved the look of huge, wooden mining masts and abandoned train rails running along side a highway in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Something like Johannesburg, CA or it's accompanying Randsburg, CA. The style would have to be significantly different since these are both in the Mojave desert and have stereotypically "American Western" buildings, but I've always loved driving past them and just imagining the history and lives of the people who worked there
I love your series, you're my favorite C:S youtuber. I think an immigrant neighborhood would be cool to fill the residential demand. In São Paulo theres a neighborhood that is traditionally filled with immigrants, Bom Retiro. It used to be a place for Jewish and Italian immigrants if Im not mistaken and other communities, and more recently its been transformed into a Little Korea. But also, in the same hood theres a bunch of Bolivian immigrants, and its interesting to see the contrast. I think it would be very cool to see something similar added in Oceania
Hi Reino! Good idea, but in Australia and New Zealand we don't really have distinct "ghettos". Immigrants do cluster, but it's a lot less concentrated than in the United States, and also the immigrant concentrations tend to be very mixed as well (for example, Greek + Italian + Lebanese). HUGE greetings to you and all the other wonderful Brazilians out there - we love you guys!
@@srijulakhotha7247 Thanks for the reply and yeah, here its not too concetrated too, but immigrants do tend to leave a mark on one particular neighborhood. And also what Im proposing is to mix the communities too, like the Koreans and Bolivians in the example
Your comment about safety ramps is quite apt, because when we were heading back to Sydney from central NSW, the descent into the Goulburn Valley had a heap of them.
@twodollarstwenty you might want to take a look at the 'SingleTrainTrackAI' in the steam workshop. This mod allows you to get more trains at single train tracks without having to double all of them. Trains will wait for each other to pass before entering the single track part of your line. This might be the solution to increase frequency of trains and decrease waiting times for passengers in Paterson.
One thing you see along the older rural highways in NSW are some dirt road last that leach off of them for huge properties (privately owned residential with a mix of smaller farm) if it that makes sense. An example In think of is Big River Way Bom Bom, south of Grafton.
Wow I had no idea that safety ramps were meant for that! Thank you. P.S I live in Canberra 3 hours from Sydney and in Canberra the tallest building is called "High society towers" and I made it for steam workshop, I think it would look lovely in Dundee. Love the work, keep going 😀👍
How to "encourage" service vehicles to use your routes: Use Traffic Manager to disallow service vehicles usage of the highway in between the connections, so the only way for them to go is around
We have a lot of mountains named for common but oddly negative words - Mount Disappointment, Mount Misery, even Mount Buggery - so how about something along those lines? Mount Reluctance? Mount Infamy? Mount Mischief?
That cop car was in totally the wrong place. The cops here in Australia would definitely have been hiding behind the billboard instead of being out in the open.
A trick I learned from City Planner Plays about building roads on a rough terrain is opening the terrain height tab from the top left info menu while building. The reason is when you're building a road on a cliff or something in real life, the road tends to follow the natural elevation, because it's cheaper to follow the nature rather than digging and filling everywhere to make the terrain follow the road. I am saying this because I realized how much those little roads you build just doesn't fit the terrain. They go up and down everywhere, then you go and use move it and stuff, but if you use the method I mentioned, you could both achieve a more natural and realistic look, and also would make the process more practical.
Maybe a good name for the dam would be Wyaralong Dam. The name comes a dam south of Brisbane that also is on the way from the Gold Coast to lots of country towns. That dam Is also part of a larger Aboriginal heritage site. Also, I think its just a cool name. In real life, there is also a rowing club there and perhaps that could be a cool build.
I have an small idea you could maybe do in the future. A vintage railway, There is a couple around australia for leisure, Along with new zealand, Like at Whiteman park and glenbrook. There is a couple steam trains in the steam workshop, This could make some more nz-type, or perth vibe. Maybe this could be the mode of transport, in the nz area.
18:00 Usually money matters, so civil engineering would adapt to the land. For this piece of rail, the land is created to match the track: it must be MT Dubai😉
From what I see while travelling the southwest U.S., I suspect there is a hierarchy in highway barriers determined by the government based on speed, historical problem areas & budget. * Heavy traffic, small spacing between directions: concrete barriers * Heavy traffic, large/medium spacing between: cable barriers * Low traffic, medium spacing: cable barriers (usually) * Low traffic, large spacing: no barriers
Really hope to see some little homes all along the highway. Not sure about Australia cause I’ve never been but in Michigan’s UP along the smaller highways there tends to be a lot of sparse, smaller homes way out in the country side (mostly along lakes). If that doesn’t work, some tiny towns would definitely make sense, even if realistically they’d be struggling quite hard economically
hey if you are still taking suggestions it'd be super cool to see a naturally occurring tourist location such as hot springs, geysers, rock formations (or shiny rocks), cave on the coast people could snorkel in, or drive through outback safari/ animal preserve.
You should have a country general store in the town next to Patterson. Name it something like Gilmore's Glorious Goods which im sure hasn't been taken by any other series 🤔
For the mountain, I would suggest: (1) *Mt. Kingsford/Unaipin* in honour of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and David Unaipon; (2) *Mt. Robert* or *Mt. Menzies/Tudawali* in honour of Sir Robert Menzies and Robert Tudawali; or, (3) *Mt. Elizabeth* in honour of Queen Elizabeth II of Australia, the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms.
I think you should build some sort of monument on the mountain looking down over Dundee, sort of like the Christ the redeemer looking down over Rio De Janeiro, or at least build some sort of like antenna on that mountain with a road service road leading up to it, I know that there are a lot of mountains with antennas on them
Will you build an area like Maralinga or Woomera, the former nuclear testing sites for operation Buffalo. I've been to them and the landscapes are beautiful, but something about them just feels off. It'd be cool to see that represented in Oceania because that's a huge part of Australian history.
I wonder if it is feasible to use the parallel roads on the service road with an invisible footpath so that people are walking in the middle of the service road (or at least on the side of the road)?
I know this is off topic of the video- but I know you like to build your cities based off of real life locations, and I think you should really look into the finger lakes, as a bunch of the towns (like Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Waterloo, Skaneateles) all have the small town vibe that you also like to incorporate into your cities.
I live half an hour out of Mackay, which is itself twelve hours from BLOODY ANYWHERE. Ahem. But anyway. Long drive in Oceania = neuron activation. Me happy.
I love road trip videos of Cities Skylines. And I'm wondering if it's possible to set a vehicle to drive a specific route, for a road trip showcase. Do you know how to do this? Or is is just selecting a random vehicle and hope it will drive the preferred route for the trip?
I’d like to see a small desert town named Desperation. It’s a Stephen King reference, not Australian but it is my favorite book. Also Irwin and Drop Bear Falls.

Love it, what about a drive-in-theatre? I know they're not around much, but it would be cool to have an abandoned/working one along the road.
For the long walk path. I did something similar, where I banned all but service/delivery vehicles and made a park with just enough attraction to get walkers. Car parking either side of the path helped. As well as making the main attraction point equal distance between each entrance.
