Please remember I'm not a professional- these are just my personal opinions having used keratin treatments on and off for 6 years, and from a lot of research!

Okay so after watching a bunch of videos, you can do keratin treatments and still have your curls as long as you don’t flat iron it too many times on too high of a heat. Although most brands say high heat + 7 passes to lock it in, that will likely make the curls loosen a lot more. So, if you’re going to a stylist tell them you wear your hair curly and would like to keep the curl so use less heat and less passes. It will be locked in, but not to the extent you’d want it if you were someone who wears their hair straight all of the time.

Really good and informative video. Regardless of what treatment you use, it’s all about maintenance. I did lose quite a bit of my natural thickness when having got a keratin treatment. It has its pros and cons, when you straighten or style your hair you’ll lose that ‘body/thickness’. It’s great for very thick hair but I wouldn’t recommend for people who have fine or very thin hair.
This channel seems really interesting, I’ve subscribed hope to see you back soon with a new video. Your curls are beautiful btw 🥰.

I did keratin and chemical straightening, 3 times. The last two with 1 year something between them. It’s very tempting, because it’s time saver and looks much more healthy and beautiful. But I won’t do it again. My hair became much more thinner and looks worse than before treatment. Plus my scalp is much more sensitive now, prone to dandruff.
I’ve done the last session almost two years ago, hopefully this will get better.

I’m really confused as to what stylus and goes over the hair eight or nine times. I’ve been doing these keratin treatments for quite a few years now and I have 60% of my clients doing them and I do them as well on myself and I’ve never had an issue. Every bottle that I’ve ever bought which by the way, I use a natural keratin treatment and a Brazilian keratin treatment, and they both say that seven times is the absolute max but depending on the integrity of the hair, the minimum is five times. On curly hair I would never go any more than five times unless you are looking for it to be as straight as possible. If anyone’s hair is breaking from a keratin, is because their stylist is not educated, and probably not certified to be doing Brazilian Keratins. Being certified is educating them on everything they need to know to realize which keratin you should be using, how to tell how much you should be using on the hair and if your hair can’t even handle it. No one’s hair should ever break. Consultation and education is key. The only unsafe thing about a Brazillian and Keratin is the formaldehyde, but that’s why again education is important and you are supposed to be in a well ventilated area. You and your stylus should both have glasses to protect your eyes and you should absolutely have a ventilation system and fans. I prefer to do them on nice days with my salon doors open and ventilation, going with fans blowing outward out the door. If you were stylus is going over your hair more than seven times I would definitely be stopping them and asking them why they’re trying to cook your hair for dinner. They should go back and get retested for their license.

My curls are more like a soft wave now. My stylist used the Trissola Keratin Treatment brand, and it was very pricey, but I’m hopeful that this treatment will last between 4-6 months. I have always struggled with managing my thick curls, so the keratin treatment is amazing IMO. I haven’t straightened my hair in years and I refrain from using heat in my hair, but for a one-time treatment such as this (with relatively long term results) I believe it is worth it 😊

Smoothing treatments are what should be used if you still want curl patterns. When using keratin straightener then the hair will be straight like texturizing chemical. It’s a choice determined by if you want straight hair all the time, if you want curly hair just comb a keratin smoothing treatment through hair with out using flat iron.

    • @christinan6450
      @christinan6450 2 года назад

The keratin wears off over the entire head of hair. I’ve used it more than a few times & you will notice when it’s fading, since the slip when combing out you hair after shampoos, etc will decrease back to where it was before you got it. If you notice that the new growth texture is significantly different from the older hair then you may have damage, IE heat damage. Always use a heat protector on your hair whenever using any type of heat. I have never sustained any damage & my hair is a fine texture. I really don’t do it myself, I go to a professional that knows my hair well & is careful to protect my hair from heat. When I wet my hair it goes right back to my usual texture without a hitch. You just have to be careful the product doesn’t contain formaldehyde or anything that r;eases formaldehyde when heat is applied. Also make sure your hair has a healthy balance of moisture, bcuz too much protein without a balance of moisture can lead to brittle hair.

    • @chelsigavaghan1698

Absolutely not the whole head! Only if you consistently wash your hair out and use the wrong shampoos. I’ve been doing keratin treatments for years and I have about 60% of my clients also doing keratin treatments and they get them twice a year and their roots are the worst. In six months, you only see the shaft lifting just a bit but it does not just leave your hair unless you don’t take care of your hair or you yourself use excessive heat with no protection, and again not taking care of it properly. Hopefully you get an educated stylus and do what you’re supposed to and you will absolutely love it.

Glad to hear you're happy with the results so far! I'm not a professional, but I wouldn't see any issues with applying any additional serum to the ends! I'd be careful with straightening again as it's already had a lot of heat applied already, but if you wanted to go over with one pass on low heat hopefully it shouldn't be too damaging! But I think if you could just use serum that would be best- let me know how you get on! May also be helpful to call the salon to be absolutely sure x

It can be expensive and caustic. It has been a game changer for me. I don't know if I will ever go back to curly. You can’t tell people they will be sorry because you’re stylist either did it improperly, overused heat, used the wrong treatment for you because everyone’s hair is different and the integrity of your hair needs to be evaluated first and I have a natural keratin treatment without formaldehyde and a Brazillian treatment and both bottles are a few hundred dollars a piece, not $80 like that brand, or possibly your body or medication can react or reject. You’re opinion is just that, an opinion. I’ve been doing hair for 15 years and I have not one client that had an issue and I e been doing my own Brazilian treatments for 4 years and I am perfectly fine and I lighten my hair consistently.
Sorry you couldn’t experience one of the best things ever invented, as long as the stylist is educated…CERTIFIED to give keratin treatments…which I am, education is key, and they know what’s best for you and your hair. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My experience with doing a keratin treatment was using to much keratin products which over processed my hair and ruined it because before that I loved the keratin treatment but didn't continue because my hair my badly damaged and a lot of my hair fell out so, my experience is if anyone does this treatment, I think it is safe to say and very smart not to use keratin treatment products after getting the treatment when its time for wash day or you will regret it. 😊

Hey, thanks for your comment! Being completely transparent, I've not yet found a good keratin treatment designed to be used at home (it's the reason I had a gap using keratin treatments before starting this channel). There's probably some good ones out there- I've just not found them yet! Instead I've been using a keratin treatment that's designed for salon use called Avlon Texture Release. It has been quite hard to get hold of it, but I find that one bottle can last me 3-4 treatments so I'm still using this one! Once this runs out though, I will have a look for any other, more accessible brands and will share if I find any! Sorry that's not the perfect answer, appreciate it's frustrating!

I’m based in Australia and use a formaldehyde free home kit! Used it twice in the past 10 months. It’s by a brand called Kativa (Kativa Hair Straightening Kit Extreme Care). The box sold in Australia looks different to the one on the official website... I think it’s a Brazilian company. Look it up on Amazon or eBay. I wasn’t able to post a link to eBay on here.

So sorry to hear this :'( Did they use a lot of heat when they applied the treatment? Also, do you know what treatment they used (did it have formaldehyde?)? My first recommendation would be to definitely call the salon and see if they can advise. Secondly, if you can afford it, it might be worth paying to see a trichologist who can look at your hair and scalp specifically and advise, because if it's shedding (from the root) often good to see a specialist! From the research I've done, it seems as though this can sometimes be caused by a reaction to formaldehyde in the treatment. But if you're actually experiencing breakage (where the hair is breaking off, sometimes near the root but not from the root), it could be good to do the Aphrogee 2 step protein treatment. I experienced this a few months ago and have a video that I just need to finish editing so I can finally upload, where I was experiencing a lot of breakage and was really worried. But did the 2 step protein and my hair was back to normal. Hoping it's the latter for you! But probably good to wait a couple of weeks so you're not doing too much to your hair all at once. Keep me posted xx

Hmm, to your comment about how the stylist have to apply “crazy amounts of heat” to your hair to seal in the keratin treatment & how you made it seems so negative I actually don’t think it’s that bad CONSIDERING people who hear style their hair at 300+ degrees DAILY!
Keratin treatments are done once every 4-6 months (lasting longer if you do sulfate free products, not washing your hair everyday which you shouldn’t really do anyway etc) keratin treatments smooth out your hair making you feel less inclined to even reach for your blow dryer straightener etc.
And due to you losing less heat tools your hair grows so much more. The keratin fortifies your hair acting as a barrier around your strands preventing breakage, therefore allowing it to grow long.
As for formaldehydes, do your research on the salon, ask the brand that they use, ask them about if this chemical is in the product they use. My salon offers 3 different keratin treatments. The Brazilian keratin has this formaldehyde in it, then they have another 2 options that do not.
I love my curly hair but I like that the treatment softens and straightens my hair because I love how it elongates my hair. If you’re a curly head you know about shrinkage. I love how I look with straight hair and love the fact that I don’t have to damage my hair daily. My hair is super healthy and has grown SO much thanks to keratin treatments.

Hey Lili, thank you for your comment! This is a very good point. Personally, I have quite fine hair that's also bleached so prior to using keratin treatments, just straightening my hair one or two times a year would cause a lot of breakage! So to go over the same section of hair up to 8 times would be very excessive for my hair, but for others with thicker hair their hair can withstand it much better. The point I was trying to make, is that many people who do get damage after a keratin treatment think it's the treatment itself, but often it's actually heat damage. This was something I learnt from a trichologist. Again not everyone will get heat damage, but it is a risk for some, especially with multiple treatments! On the flip side though, I did another video talking about the 6 benefits of keratin treatments for curly hair, and also mention the elongation benefits!

If a brand claims to be formaldehyde free but really isn’t then how are you supposed to figure that out? And who wants to take their time playing detective when there’s still a plethora of other issues likely to happen. Who wants to get a treatment like that done anyways when hair company’s lie and have things to hide from you. No thanks I’ll keep my hair thank you. What a sick expensive joke.
