Been nice if Cummins had spent a few more bucks on those gaskets to begin with. Do you have to remove the front motor support to replace front structure gasket?
How long does it to do this job? My truck is leaking to the point i need to fix... I have a harbor frieght car transmission jack, i think it was a bigger one... What is the rating on your jack?
I removed the top cover and tried to look inside but the way its made you can't see anything, I do know it has some gear damage though I can hear it whine in certain gears and I found a few gear teeth on the oil plug when I drained it. Thats been over a hundred thousand miles ago since that happened, I really think the only reason it's still going is because I put gear oil in it.
I have mine leaking from front of the motor. Pulled the front cover off and replaced the gasket. Still leaking, do you think it might be the crank seal now?
Hello Chase I was wondering if you could make a detailed video about reinstallment of your flywheel housing and transmission I am currently going to be doing the same thing and my understanding is when replacing the bellhousing you may need to redowel it and use a dial indicator to line the flywheel housing up if you have time thank you sir we really enjoy your videos.
I have already got it back together so can't really make a more detailed video, But i can tell you It has 2 dowel pins in the back of the block you can see in the video that align the housing, I didn't see any reason you need a dial indicator. I just made sure that the dowel pins were there and fit snug in the block and the flywheel housing, and reassembled everything. aligning the clutch was the hardest part cause I didn't have a alignment tool. wound up sliding clutch on input shaft and stabbing it that way turning the motor over and putting in the pressure plate bolts one at a time and snugging them little by little through the clutch inspection plate hole, this took like 3 hrs to do this way. Get yourself a clutch line up tool to eliminate those problems. In my opinion you really don't need the expensive rear seal installer tool, the new rear seal will come with a plastic ring for use with the seal installer but I just held the plastic ring over the seal and gently tapped the seal in place after you get the flywheel housing bolted back in place, I did this twice on the front timing cover seal also with no problems. A chain come along tied on the front axle and to the jack aids in getting the no rolling transmission jack to roll forward without alot of strain when you get ready to reinstall transmission. sorry I didn't make a more detailed video, Was just in a hurry trying to get it back together and there really is nowhere to put a camera, But hopefully it will atleast give you an idea of what a job it is. It's not technically hard. its just big heavy, nasty and takes along time.
@@LifeWithChase I can definitely dig what you're sayin about oil runnin out from under the truck during a break. I have a 2010 Cascadia, dd15, and it's doing the same thing. I'm hoping it's not the damn rear structure, but oil pan gasket instead. I just put a transmission in to the tune of 12k, so not really wanting to spend no more than 3k on this job. I do know that the cam housing gasket leaks like crazy too. It's only running down one side of the engine, but it's a helluva lot. I try to park in dirt if I can lol. It's crazy man. Plus I wanna get back to using my regular oil instead of the cheap Walmart oil. I figure since it's just running out on the ground, might as well use the cheap stuff until I get it fixed..
Hey Chase, just bought an auction special with this problem. I was wondering where the leak might be coming from. Thanks for the info, and god bless RUclips. 🍻 cheers
That clutch bearing sleeve should not be greased.. sleeve specially made already to work without any grease.. just forks need to be lightly greased.. on sides.. Is nice to see someone still has that antique transmission I still have 2 trucks with that.. Real name for it is ASTRONIC they're use in Europe.. for trucks and buses 1st generation of i-shift
I use to be an automotive mechanic then a milwright. After that I figured I would get into trucking. I thought it would be more money less work, but now I think I'm a truck driving mechanic youtuber LOL
Weld an old input shaft to that instead of a bolt. Works perfect

Did you look inside the transmission to see if anything got screwed up when you lost that oil last year?

Mine has been leaking 2 gal per oil change for a few years now

Gear housing probably leaking
Can you explain to me pls what this has to do with transmission if the leak coming from the engine
You have to remove the transmission to get to it, kinda like you have to remove your shoe to scratch the bottom of your foot.
Hello sir.
My truck is vnl 670 2010 isx 400 commin.
Where is your shop?
Can you help my truck to be inspect from you?
Where is your shop?
I’m still afraid to drop the tranny myself on my pete, my rear main seal let go....Is that a heavy duty transmission jack ?
It's the 2000lb rated one that harbor freight sells for about $300 or so, a real heavy duty jack will cost you $1500 plus, But this got the job done.
I've done several clutch jobs and trans swaps with the same jack with no problems

All that oil is just rust prevention. LOL You know all that snow and salt you run in down there.
When you stop for a 10hr break and theres oil running out from under the front of the truck it's time to fix it LOL
