It's not chic American cars. The first one on record to do it was A young white man in America in the 1950s or 60s was the first one to have his father who was a welder to put hydraulics in the front of his Corvette. I saw the old photos of him and the Corvette. But both black and Chicanos started lowering their cars in America in the 1940s. I saw old photos of both black men and Chicano men's Lowrider cars back in the 1960s and late 50s in Los Angeles California. My uncles were doing it in the 1940s as young African-American men. black men have been lowriding in California just as long as Chicanos. It was not Chicanos who made it an international favorite. but it was the black men on the west coast of America in Los Angeles California who made it popular in their rap videos in LA in the 1990s which spreaded around the world.
it's gotta be expensive to import a Low Low into Japan. These guys are blessed to be able to drive one around. Any issues with registration? I would imagine that emissions restrictions have to be tough out there. are any of these rides electric powered?
they don't import already-made lowriders, they just import US cars and convert them to Lowriders. The setup costs atleast 2-4K i think. Regarding of registration it shouldn't an issue since they're registered as US cars
But the inspection for foreign cars must be expensive as fuck .These guys must have money I live in Japan but I'm not able to afford cars like these . Just a simple kei car.
Cadillacs used to be popular with Yakuza.. Oddly Yakuza also like cars with left sided steering. Consider it a status symbol

In the 30s & 40s Zoot- Suiters, Pachucos, Mexicans Started Customizing their Rides Called Bonbas (Bonb) Cars, modifying Suspension Low, nice paint & wheels tires Firmes different from stock, From Los Angeles, and post-WWII era of the 1940s, Zoot-suiters Pachucos,custom bomb, as time went on. In any case, lowriders cropped up in these States,Cities (areas) during the post-WWII era of the 1940s and 50s. They were particularly popular amongst young Mexicans, who adopted the art of rolling “low and slow” (bajito y suavecito in Spanish) 1958, California Vehicle Code 24008 basically outlawed lowriding. The new law made it illegal for any part of a car to be below the bottoms of its rims. However, in 1959, a customizer named Ron Aguirre found a way to bypass this law. He took the invention of hydraulics. Quieted,Silent the law, and police. They say some of them are in the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia) but they don't per say smoke people out on streets like we do here in the states, you go over there and cruise and show respect with no worries at all about getting smoked on.
