Mexipinos!!!!
I'm Mexican-American, and grew up around pinoy cholos back in 90's. Solid homies.
Much respect to all the Filipinos out there
That’s right Paré. U know what time it is. 🇵🇭🤞🏾
Yup, im from LA CA
ive always thought of philipinos like the mexicans of asia
they are like us, natives, who were colonized by spain, with spanish last names, even some words are spanish sounding
they even look like us
Yeap0, Latino heatttt✌️
In the late 70s early 80s Filipinos didn't want nothing to do with cholos.
Born in the Philippines, grew up in a Mexican neighborhood on the west coast. I fell in love with the Chicano culture and they accepted me.
♥️ Much respect

It warms my heart to see our filipino cousins embracing Chicano culture . I'm blessed to be married to a filipina I myself am Chicano . Much love to the Filipino cholos and chola hope to see u when I visit Philippines again. Love and respect from the Chicano in hawaii❤😊
What I like most about this video is that it shows how Filipinos and Mexicans have hundreds of years of history together. It’s a deeper connection than many of us realize. Filipinos don’t just rep the cholo style aesthetically. They were there in the trenches. They shed blood, sweat, and tears, both in their homeland and Los Angeles, CA. This style is very much a part of them.
No it is not 😂 chicano is not cholo culture.
@@GuillermoSanchez-jr6mpchicano culture wouldn’t of have been respected if it wasn’t involve with the cholo culture. It’s what people saw and associated them with
It is more about style and clothing then true gang life
We need to unite again saddens. Me here where I live Filipinos only role with other Asians only it was not like that long ago we have a shared friendship that dates back to 1500s
During the period when Mexican mafia green lighted Asian gangs in Southern California, Filipinos were the only Asians who got a pass and we’re not touched when they hit the jails. Many of them were surenos
I'm 26 Filipino American that grew up in Orange County. As a child I used to be bullied by my homies that were all mostly Mexican for being Asian but little do they know lmao. I grew up in a hood in Anaheim with family friends that are also Filipino that gang bang and are sureño. Also being part of a lowrider car club I met more homies and felt more accepted. I speak alittle Spanish but understsnd alot of Spanish and barely any Tagalog. I was raised by single mother and Mexican baby sitter that only spoke Spanish barely any English. All I eat is Filipino and Mexican food. I'm proud to be Filipino and have love for Mexicans. The history behind it is very interesting and I'm grateful.
True some roll together but most of the Asian click up together cause of bullies if Chicano gangs this is true
That's cool, how did you mom and her speak?
Mexican born and raised in San Diego. We have a lot of pinoys here because of the Navy. Also alot of Mexipinos(Mexican Filipinos) here as well. Much love to my pinoys

nasty city...National City nothing but lots of 'flipping acts' and border tunnels...
I grew up in the Bay Area of California in a city that was mostly Filipinos and Mexicans. We got along perfectly. We dated within each others race and life back then was amazing. I grew up around cholos and cholas and they were some of my best friends! Miss those days… I didn’t even know this subculture existed in the Philippines. That’s awesome!
When I was running around up in bay area just in mid 80s san leandro concord livermore, there were no filps or chicans all over...
I want to thank you for shedding light on this subject. I’m 54 yrs old and Mexican and Filipino. My Pops (Pino) was in the us navy and moms (Mexican) was from Long Beach Ca. Long story short in Long Beach in 60-70s there were and still are many half Chicano/ Pino Cholos. Most of us had more of a Mexican up ringing simply because most of our fathers were away at sea or stationed far away. I think many of the Filipino sailors that got stationed in places like Long Beach and San Diego felt a natural kinship in these Mexican Varrios. Rather than the suburbs of others. And they were welcomed. I known in our own house being that pops up as always away we gravitate more to the Mexican side of our heritage. And along with that came the Chicano lifestyle. There’s so much we can discuss, cause I have so much I’d like to share and for you to see. Right to the point where I found myself stationed in subic in 1988. A cholo from Long Beach being discriminated against because I wasn’t “really Filipino”..I can laugh at it now. Not to mention I was considered dirty because of my tattoos.😂😂🇵🇭🇲🇽👊🏼💪🏼✌🏼

Dope ass documentary. I’m half german filipino grew up in National City, San Diego which is filled with Chicano Filipinos. Much love pare
Filipinos here are mostly bloods or crips though, not Chicano/ southsiders like up in LA up there alot of them claim 13

My brother in law is Filipino born on Mexican Independence Day 16 de Septiembre. I'm Chicano and born on Filipino Independence Day June 12th😁. We also have a strong Chicano culture mixed with Tex-Mex here in South Texas. I grew up around G-bodies had 2 of them and my dad had several 1930s and 1950s Fords rocking the Daytons back in the day. Saludos to the primos and primas in the Filipinas.😊

Bro this about to blow up I'm sharing it with my Filipino brothers. I'm Latino with a Filipino wife and son and I make music/rap with Filipinos. Salamat Po for sharing this with us pare.
I’m a Chicano from Dallas, Texas. Peace, love and joy to my carnales, Filipinos.
I'm a Mexican living in Baguio, and I loved your video
I grew up in the Bay Area, CA and there were a lot of Filipinos and we were all cool with each other.
Being a Chicano was founded on the principles of a Mexican-American born in the US while having parents from Mexico. It also was a struggle being accepted by the Mexican community that came from there and immigrated to the US because they felt that if we had not gone through the rites of passage as they did crossing the border in some way, legally or illegally, we were not "Mexican enough". I'm sure every minority culture in and out of the US experiences the same treatment from their own. I think that it is extremely interesting that this culture was seen in Japan and now in the Philipines. I grew up with a lot of Filipinos in California so I could understand it. It's quite unique to embrace the Chicano culture. Much respect.
THE MEXICAN AMERICANS SON LA MERA RIATA NO IMPORTA LO QUE DIGAN LOS DEMAS AQUI RIFANDO LOS MEXICAN AMERICANS 🇺🇲💪
Alot of Filipinos in LA and SD were SouthSiders Gangs back in the day too bruh. Everyone just thought they were Mexican too. They were just called Chino. Lol
I can honestly say that the Chicano culture here in the Philippines had been in existence before it blew up in Japan or Asia in general. I am 38 now but ever since the 90s my clothes of choice have always been Chicano/Cholos and so does my friends.
why not fix up mexico - instead of running away?
@@keyfield8967Was never born there
Japan has the same subculture. It's because a lot of Japanese immigrated to LA and lived in boyle heights and East LA.

I’m from Chicago, Mexican-American, thank you for sharing this. I hope to travel to the Philippines 🇵🇭 someday. I enjoy the food , the people and embrace the culture. This is really cool that this subculture exists.
when I lived in Chicago years ago, there were no mexs there...or very, very invisible scant number...
@@keyfield8967 Funny because we've been coming to Chicago since the early 1900s and have had our presence known since the late 1940s mainly on the Southside of Chicago. Which is a huge part of Chicago.
@@keyfield8967 Chicago neighborhoods are diverse but the city is segregated by socioeconomic conditions. Maybe you were in an area that cost more so that could be why you didn’t meet any mexs there. The south side has the highest concentration of Mexs.

I grew up more on the Mexican/Chicano sides of my Familia. If homies talked down on me when I was growing up for not being full Mexican I would show them where my Cora was at and what I was about. It usually led to chingasos or they would just walk away when I would get violent on their asses. But I would say fuckit and walk Taller and Prouder as a Chicano/Pinoy and Never let that type of prejudice get to me or weaken my mind. I learned to embrace my Filipino❤ and Mexican❤ heritage together I'm Brown N Proud and DGAF what anyone thinks about me. They would also say my Spanish wasn't perfect bcuz I'm part Filipino. I'm of Korean ethnic origin. I always tell people who are curious of Asian culture and its people, that we have Hispanics in Asia. We call them Filipinos. LOL
Not Hispanic at all. Filipinos are closer to SE Asians not Mexicans at all
Your not understanding what the homie is saying, open your eyes vato and pay attention
Filipinos are South East Asian.
When Spain invaded the Philippines they forced them to take Spanish last names for tax purposes only.
After the Spaniards left it was up to them to change to their original last name.
Mexican's DNA is a combination of Native American and Iberian from Spain.
Less than half a percent of the entire Filipino population has Spanish ancestry.
Look up youtube videos of Filipinos DNA test results they do get disappointed when none have Spanish blood.✨
@@pinkworld9384 agreed
@pinkworld9384 good point. This was a joke. I respect your view 4 sure. I hope I didn't offend u.

Shout out to the Pinoy brothers from Los Angeles California. Stay safe out there 🙏🏼🙏 God bless you guys
My wife is Japanese American born and raised in East LA. Japanese Americans have a history being shipped there after the intermment camps. I'm Filipino American born and raised in Southern California. A lot of Filipino gangsters out here dress like cholos in the 90s. That Chicano phenomenon is world wide and has a large influence to other cultures. So props to the Chicanos from the tattoos, attire and culture .Hell I even met an Italian cholo that only speaks Italian at my kids school lol 😂. His kid goes to that school also.
I think in general now most Asian Americans and Mexican Americans proved they can assimilate well in each others communities better than most other races.
Finally! Nagkaroon din ng solid na documentary na representasyon ng chicano subculture dito sa pilipinas! Well documented and well researched! Mexicans and Filipinos... 👍👍👍👍👍
An overlooked aspect of Chicano history is that Filipinos in California were always there with Mexicans, we always stood together, especially in the Huelga movement of the 1960s
Exactly bro. Even to this day us Mexicans stand with the Filipino brothers and sisters in the LA area.
That's what I thought. I went to LA thinking it's Hollywood. I'll be darn I went to a subdivision, I thought I was in Tondo, Manila.
As a pinoy who grew up in LA in the 80s and 90s I too love lowriders but truth be told, 95% of us were “cruisin down the street on my Vtec 🎶 “ 😂
It’s a California homie style of the 70-90’s ! Not only Chicano. Check out the crips they black dress same way. If Africa copied the style they’d look like crips and bloods
@@user-zv8gd3jl7q ok but I don’t get what you’re trying to say here. What does that have to do with pinoys in the 70s to 90s driving jdm?
i was filipino in a packed car of mexican bangers from Rockwood St crusing down hollywood/sunset blvd sometimes we go to whittier too. good ol days. so much fun and kinda dangerous but we were young lol
This is well done . . .love and respect to the chicanos and philipinos....
Back in HS during the 90s there was heavy animosity between the Mexican gangs and Filipino gangs. The filipino gangs were created because they knew about power in numbers to protect themselves from the Mexican gangs. A lot of the Pinoys who arrived from PI that moved to Southern CA, lived in Predominately Mexican neighborhoods. Imagine being Mestizo (mexican/ filipino) in the 90s, homies with all the Mexicans, cause I grew up all the OGs and me being cool with all my Filipino homies who are also OGs. I know the filipino homies who got caught up with the law that were not US citizens, ended up deported back to PI and brought back that Southern Califas Lifestyle back with them.
I stayed out of the politics and I’m still respected by everyone. Im from National City & been there since the early 80s. Im also cookie cutter. I still wear dickies, chucks, shave my head and all my tattoos are in Black and Grey. Its my Culture & how I grew up…Nasty City! 😂 I still have solid homies (real x3 OGs) from both Mexican and Filipino gangs. Were all old men and fathers/grandfathers now. You can take the Homie out the hood, but not the hood out the Homeboy!💯
Much Love and Respect from the Left Coast!
You need to hit up Pare Young who was deported back PI. He is well respected in CA.
i grew up near downtown LA in the late 80s. i dont remember it being strictly mexican gangs vs filipino gangs . the filipino gangs has affiliation with mexican gangs like either ur with 18st/Rockwood st etc then ur against Temple st/echo park/ etc i was filipino it just kicked it with Rockwood st and we didnt get along with some filipino gangs but not all
maybe it was different in SD?
Very well researched. Thank you for recognizing the Aztec, Inca, and Mayan soldiers used by Spain to conquer the islands. I only found out Palengke and Changi where Aztec words, and not Spanish, when i visited Mexico.
It’s a California homie style of the 70-90’s ! Not only Chicano. Check out the crips they black dress same way. If Africa copied the style they’d look like crips and bloods
