My wife and I honestly thought about not posting this week because of the situation in Ukraine. For those that don't know my wife is Ukrainian, her family is still there, I lived in Ukraine for 4 years, and we both have friends on the ground in the country. We made a video last week talking about the situation: ruclips.net/video/ARXdHB4ZprM/видео.html
This channel is our full-time job and our source of income. And we don't want to change over to a channel focusing on politics. We could spend every Sunday posting videos about political strife and suffering since the world has never had a shortage of it. Some people have said why didn't you post about what happened in Kazakhstan, Iran, Haiti and the list goes on and on. The simple reason is Ukraine hits very close to home for us so that's why we jumped out of our usual format to post a video about it.
The reason why I started this channel was to show a world distant from the political angles the mainstream media shows us. To show a world that excites us and makes us want to venture into it. A view into cultures or ways of living that perhaps you're not familiar with but can learn something from. And this is what we will continue to do.
But there will be times in the future when we might drop occasional content about Ukraine if we feel we can give you a look in that others aren't showing, but for the most part Sunday videos will continue as usual.
We've been somewhat paralyzed since the war started, especially my wife. I can't imagine how hard it is for her knowing her parents are living in a country currently under heavy invasion.
Some of you have asked how you can help in Ukraine and this is the best organization and way to send money that we've found so far: novaukraine.org/?fbclid=IwAR3CdNRb0ryyi2mcAN0w6FwhglM6xLMVBC5pdc2RhafA4iepdFV10ovbK98 If we find a better way we will update this.
To the Ukrainians... the world admires you for your strength and courage. We are humbled by your resilience. You will be victorious, and peace will come to your country again.
For the next 7 weeks content will be from our latest trip to CA. So everything you will see for the near future has already been filmed.
Thank you for caring and for being part of this journey!
Peter & Natalia
Hi Peter, I have felt paralyzed as well. I was born in NYC. I am first generation American. Everyone else is from Kyiv. I dont have much family left. All my grandparents died when I was young. My aunt died after she gave birth to her first child. Ive been in contact with my cousin who fled Kyiv. Of course I am American first. I only went to Ukraine once for 3 months when I was seven. But now as I get older my heart and soul feels empty and I feel like I don’t have roots or connections to a country that technically shares my blood. I’ve become so utterly proud to say that I am Ukrainian over the past seven days. I never used to think that way. I think about why my grandma would do if she were still alive. Im just sad and heartbroken that one man could cause so much pain. I just hope things get resolved soon.

One of the biggest things I learned when I was studying in California was family love. He was my roommate and Mexican-American. He treated me as his family and let me spend time with her family which I could barely experience here in Japan. Since then, I started facing and communicating with my family in Japan. I had used to avoid communicating with them because I had thought it was worthless. But after I met with my roommate, I changed and learned how to love my family. Unfortunately, he passed away due to the corona, but I never stop appreciating him for what he has given to me. This video reminds me of the family love Mexican-Americans embrace.
For Mex-Amer and Mexican in general, family is #1, y si nos caes bien eres parte de la familia!

In the 1980s Filipinos in California especially Los Angeles had their own gang culture street life, style dress code hair everything you name it. They were one of the bigger known Asian street gangs especially in LA. During the 1990s I saw a change from that style into Chicano cholo Style. I didn't quite understand why and I didn't really like it. Maybe it was the glorification of the cholo Style on the Hollywood big screen that influenced that??? Slowly it went away from its own thing into a more cholo thing. Oh well, I guess that's just the way it is sometimes. Would have been cool though to keep their Style and flavor. Slang etc. I remember white dudes and black dudes that kicked it with them that even spoke tagalog. This is no joke.

I spent three weeks in southern California on a basketball tour with my high school. I stayed for two weeks with a Mexican American family, the house of one of the students of the schools we played against. Literally from the *second* they met me I was part of the family. They organised a bbq for my arrival, there was like 30 people there, I didn't realise at the time but they did it just for me. This was early 2000s so smartphones didn't exist, calling international wasn't easy but the mom went to the store to buy me a calling card even though I had already purchased one, they insisted I save it and use theirs, I remember her saying that I was her responsibility and I had to call my parents. I was there for new years eve and they went so out of their way to make me feel welcome at their party. I was pretty intimidated as I had guys with tattoos on their scalp coming over and asking me about Australia and bringing me drinks lol... I was totally overwhelmed. But looking back now 25 years since that and I still get emotional thinking about my time with them. Never in my life have I ever been treated like that. The two sisters gave up their room and slept on the couch so I could sleep in their room, I didn't even thank them...
This was a time before social media, I was a naive and arrogant teenager so I had no idea how to react and I haven't seen or spoken witn them since. I've tried searching for them on social media but the surname is too common... it was strange for me at the time but looking back it was like it was totally normally for them, you have someone staying with you, they are family, that's it. I wish I had the life experience I do now so that I'd react differently.
Can relate to this xp sooo much!
man, thats an awesome story. its good to hear you acknowledge how you acted and now come full circle. Hope you get the opportunity to reconnect w that family in the future. i promise u, itll feel like you were never gone, welcoming you w open arms anf a bed to sleep. real love
You should try to contact them somehow using the school information and what not
While reading this I was like yup. Yup. Yup. That’s what we do lol, as Mexican I can confirm that as a kid, I had to give up my room for guests. Dang thanks for the little reminder of how awesome our culture is as far as treating guests as family.

I love when people from other backgrounds adopt our culture. It's a big sign of admiration. I hate when people use culture vulture or appropriation. If the homie wants to adopt some of our culture I say let him. He's not disrespecting or just using it to make money or expose in anyway. My respects. My wifey is from sweden and I love traveling to go see her parents and trade cultures.
exactly, i see it as a sign of appreciation
They why do you foos hate on Mr Capone for being a Pakistani?
Ppl who use the term cultural appropriation are actually some of the most face saving racists. The idea of cultural appropriating literally shows evidence you don’t like the other person bc of their race and you use the “appropriation” to justify your racism
@@elrojo4379 That's just to bust his balls. But ultimately, I see Capone being more down than other Chicanos. That's usually how it is. Those who embrace the culture feel the need to be recognized so they put in more work.
@@elrojo4379 Wait that brotha is Pakistani LOL. No way!!!!!
It was very interesting. Much respect. Thank you.
I have a co-worker who is Japanese/Mexican. She’s in her early 50s and lowrides with her husband and has a Chicano/Japanese accent!
I also dated a Japanese-American in high school, both he and his sister only dated Mexicans. His sister married a cholo and kind of became chola.
This is not rare in Southern California. Our cultures grew up near each other. ♥️
Both Japanese and and Mexican /hispanic cultures are some of the finest cultures and based upon family and respect .What a crazy blend of the 2 but yet come out with the finest points
Not all Hispanics are the same, this video is about Mexicans not Hispanics. Stop trying to make everything Mexican about Hispanics.
@@lykndeltoro2269 A lot of latinos who aren’t mexican wanna claim the mexican culture lol
Wow, I would have never known this subculture had existed if not for this channel. Thank you for teaching me something new and broadening my perspective.
Nothing but respect bro, Mexico y Japón 🇲🇽🇯🇵❤
Two of my favorite cultures. 🇲🇽 🇯🇵
Yo as a Mexican growing up in the United States, loving Japanese Culture as a kid. It’s dope seeing this Video shout out to all my Japanese Brothers and sisters Viva La Raza Cabrones 🇲🇽🇯🇵
Cabrones, homeboy. :)
Muchas gracias Amigo.... Mexico gracias
"You wanted Japanese huh" " yeah always". Love the homies heart. That's the beauty. El corazón!!! Saludos mis hermanos Japoneses de un hermano Mexicano!
You’re the man for these videos I’ll happily rewatch these for years to come thank u ☮️👽🌏
When I was young back in the Philippines, we were wannabe cholos and LA type gang. Defintely outgrew the lifestyle, but this is dope to see that interest in others subculture is legit and not just a fad. Also, the chill, fun & brotherhood is something I miss.
As always, very interesting content!
It's firme to get get away without out putting Flores ,work on the streets.
I lived in the Philippines from 85-95, I remembered the cholo thing starting shortly after American Me and Blood In Blood Out came out.
@@ogs1mpson609 Man, I'm from Mexico (never been to the US) and I *LOVE* Blood in Blood Out. Saw it back in like 2002 and to this day I still quote it with my friends 😂
So you’re telling me there’s a chance I can fall in love with a Japanese chola! The best of both worlds!
To Hidé, as one of Mexico's greatest ranchera artists Chavela Vargas once said "Los Mexicanos nacemos donde nos da la chingada gana" (she was Costa Rican). Translation: We Mexicans are born wherever we damn well please". Your heart is Mexican so YOU ARE Mexican, much love to you hermano & much respect to your Japanese culture. Thank you for embracing ours.
No Mexican ever said that and she wasn't one of Mexicos greatest Ranchero singers. Central Americans have nothing to do with US citizens.
Popuseros Centro Americanos are not Mexicans, chicanos or Ranchero singers they're caravaneros tps recipients li mos ne ros.
Peter, just came across your channel and I'm loving these videos.
Mexican culture worldwide. Mexican culture has a lot of influence around the world. (Food, tradititions and people) If I was to be born again, I would be definitely be a Mexicano! Puro Michoacan!
Puro Michoacán valiii 🇲🇽
you mean Chicano culture .? Mexican culture is different than this
this isnt mexican, it's cholo exclusive to american speecs
Están hablando de la cultura chicana y tenias que salir con tus corrientadas, de tu estado mierdero y cavernícola.
@@bconni2 .... Hey Homie what is chicano culture? ... the Chicano is not culture, it is a refuge from society, renegades of Mexican culture... the Chicano does not compare with the Mexican culture... the Anglos-Usa Also the Reneigans.. That is, as a Rola says neither from here nor from there
Much love for this people from 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽
Man ur videos are so damn cool. Keep it up!!
Kudos to this crew, I enjoyed watching this episode. Greetings from Serbia, EU
I love seeing this. Ik there was a lot of chicano influenced Japanese in Japan, but i never knew there was some here in LA. I love the Japanese culture & it makes me happy/proud that a culture like that wants to be part of my own culture. Much love✌🏽
It's not as widespread in Japan as you think. Videos/documentaries can fluff up/exaggerate things like this pretty easily.
I’m a young Chicano from Califas and I admire all the cultures around the world, One Love ese🌎❤️
Besa wuevos
You mean young afrolatino cuh inche preeto
loving seeing a fillipino and a japanese embracing mexican culture in the us while watching a canadian play hockey on the tv @ their secret hangout spot
Great vlog bro love your stuff very well one
I love how everyone has respect for other cultures. That's refreshing to see.
Myself being a Chicano and coming from the cholo culture and working and riding on low riders since a child, I have nothing but respect for these carnales. That’s right! Showing love from the Southside to our Japanese carnales from the Eastside! Puro Amor.
Nothing better to see than a LowRider bumping the switching in Cali that’s California Love ❤️ my peeps
All cultures are equally important as they complement each other‘s.❤️💪❤️💪❤️💪❤️
I moved my family to the East coast…and watching this definitely brings me home! I am African American and grew up in the Chicano culture. I saw both sides…the love and the hate. But nonetheless, it will always be apart of me. Much Love!❤️
So you were born in Africa
