I have a ls1 . It made 443 on stock 853 heads with a 230/236 113 cam on throttle bodies. I’m going with a refresh block , new ported 243’s and the Gm hot cam as I now have to pass emissions here in the U.K.
Same thinking about doing a ls1 or a 5.7 vortec from GM probably just gonna sell the old 4.3 Vortec or just rebuild the 4.3 Vortec into a sleeper motor for a future project
You should port and polish heads. Also get some Harland Sharp roller rockers. I have em on my 2000 ws6. I'm a new sub. I like your content. Been waiting on your next video on the obs. I have the same truck and I'm wanting to ls swap it.
Right on man thanks for watching, I didnt bother with the port and polish on the 243's. Was almost getting into aftermarket territory in terms of price around here. I will be making the OBS video asap. Just the owner and my scheduals never line up lol.
if you are thinking of porting the heads down the track kind of crazy not to do that before fitting the heads. sure budget may not allow right now but still better to wait till you have the funds than have to pull the heads again.
My 02 Z28 is a low mileage cream puff. I drive it in the rain and will even drive it on a cold clear days in the winter. Does better in the snow than one might think. I just picked up a pair of 243's off of a 08 Impala SS. Car had a massive head gasket failure. Car was nice can't believe it went to the yard over a head gasket.
It sounds good but just cam only tsp ms3 cam and the junk mid length headers made 398 hp to the wheels with long tubes ls6 intake it made 420 to the wheels if swapped the heads too it would have been alot more
I wasn't knocking your choice I was just saying I have seen the proven performance with their stuff time and time again those 243 heads should boost you up alot too
I have the same car with a 4L60E. Mine's a Formula. Only 88,000 Km on it . Can't decide if I should just pull the motor this winter to do a cam and long tubes swap cuz it needs a pan gasket also. I also have an extra 5.3 LC9 with 243 heads that I could swap on but I think the 10.2 CR of the 241's is enough and the flow is not that much higher on the 243's. Are you doing long tubes on yours?
You chose the same cam as I plan on installing in my LS1. Just an FYI: a high volume oil pump will automatically raise your oil pressure, by pushing a larger volume of oil through the same/stock oiling system. How can you call this a "budget" build when you're using titanium retainers? If you would have gone w/ conical springs, you could have achieved the valve train weight savings you're after much cheaper. You would be shocked at the amount of HP (10-20 HP) available w/ some simple intake/exhaust bowl clean-up work. A full port-match job is beyond the ability or time of most folk.
It's budget cause it wasn't all that expensive. My whole build was nearly the same cost as a set of AFR heads. Had I went full go the after market heads and fast intake and what not would have been waaaaay more. I got good bang for the buck though. Car is still running strong after a couple years with my parts.
You should have went with a BTR stage 3 cam and a trunion upgrade. My guess is you will put down 400hp/387tq. With the cam I mentioned you would be a solid 425 if not more. My old 98 formula put down 385hp/379tq with a tick stage 3 cam, ls6 intake and long tube headers, stock injectors, heads and ported throttle body. Also when you go to get it tuned don't be surprised if you peg out the stock maf and it will need to be speed density tuned. I got a 2001 formula now and am going with the BTR stage 3 this time.
Down the road I'll probably do the trunion upgrade, not too worried about it right now. I also didnt want a super aggressive idle that my Air conditioning will stall out lol. Btr 3 is a nice cam though. Also my tuner is extremely proficient with LS tuning so he can figure all that out hahaha 😂 cheers!
Old comment but... Why would the btr stage 3 make 40 whp more than your old tick stage 3 cam? The polluter or Saturday night special should make same or more power than btr stage 3. I'd vote for slightly more. The summit stage 2 is plenty big enough for most builds just a shame the LSA is so loose.
Nah, it's not crazy high mileage, the bearings looked good when I swapped the cam out. Texas speed are great folks, just decided to try something different. Plus the price was right. So far it's been a fantastic cam.

What a wholesome video
LS swapped firebird ?? 🔥🔥 Whewwww shitttt !!! You got great taste.. This reminds me of my old grand Am Gt soooo much.
@@Arkansas223 formulas were ls1 from factory! Thanks for watching
425 ponies is my guess. Great video by the way!
Thanks! The build is underway. I'd be tickled pink if it made over 400 wheel. Lol
About to start a similar build in a LS1 swap I'm doing to a 94 S10, going to watch these all

glad i finally found this video. exactly what i was looking for
Can confirm. These parts work great

mines bone stock. just exhausted and tune. 330.5 to the wheel hp 370ft lb torque
No studs?
Nah dude, maybe if I was going to push some crazy power or boost or something. But for the 400 hp it makes it wasn't worth the extra cost.
Wish you linked the parts below. Would’ve definitely earned a sub and like.
New subscriber!!🔥🔥🔥
what are you doing with that c3? That thing looks amazing!
Good video.new sub from new Zealand
Thanks and welcome
Did you knock out a cam bearing on your high Mileage motor and in my opinion Texas speed is the way to go with cams and most other parts
Nah, it's not crazy high mileage, the bearings looked good when I swapped the cam out. Texas speed are great folks, just decided to try something different. Plus the price was right. So far it's been a fantastic cam.
What kind of clutch are you running?
Monster stage 2
Did u reuse the stock push rods?
I did, yup.
How are you bro!. I am go with you are going to make 430 HP.!
How much power did you make?
Never put it on a dyno, its pretty stout though. If I had to guess I'd say its probably making 380 - 400 wheel somewhere.
Those shelves look like they are over loaded!!! LOL
Been like that for 25 years lol
total cost?
I cant remember off hand. Wasn't bad, 1500 maybe?
RedBirdAuto seriously that’s amazing man, looking to do something similar to my ls6 Ctsv
@@Mannystrading yah I mean the heads is where you save big time. 243 heads are great for the money. I paid like 300 canadian. Cheap mods, great power.
Awesome. Love the build
Do you think I could get 400 out of a ls1 for 2.5k
Well?
Easy
Sweet! You thought about spraying it?
That might be phase 2 haha
You really need a turbo400
I dont think I could willingly swap out a t56 for an auto. I'd just buy a factory auto car to build.
terrible choice of camshaft imo vcm13 238/242 and ported 243 heads are the way to go
🙄
425 hp
keep your hand off your shifter...lol
No
Yeah get all your hand oil/grease All over that cam. Just like grabbing the barrel of a shot gun. If you want corrosion that’s what you do!
She's goin good, don't be such a nerd
Hmmmmm, I guess the engine oil will not protect the cam while in the engine.
243 heads are 243 heads. End of story
