Your Squash Blossom is definitely from the SW part of the US. It is REAL turquoise and all hand made Native American. The turquoise might be from Kingman, AZ. Your squash is a beautiful vintage piece. (BTW, I worked at a jewelry store in Albuquerque, New Mexico where we sold authentic Navajo, Zuni, etc. jewelry.)

The south west part of the USA is a very unique and beautiful. My husband and I were there in our RV in 2005 and actually stayed a week Albuquerque,N.M. and travelled to Colorado, Utah, Arizona and of course I bought lots of Navajo, Zuni turquoise. Exceptional craftmanship.

I have a chart that has a map of where the old turquoise mines in the southwest are or were located and how you can tell by the colour and inclusions of the turquoise which mine it might have come from. So interesting. Your collection is wonderful!!!

There is a small Victorian town on the No. California coast called Ferndale. Every September they hold a city wide yard sale. Lots of antiques there. Closer to time you can check the Chamber of Commerce for the exact dates. It’s always a Fri. Sat. And Sun.

Your squash blossom turquoise looks quite similar to some Blue Diamond turquoise specimens. Blue Diamond turquoise tend to have these really dark speckled matrixes mixed with a greyish matrix. Yours looks like that. It's a really beautiful piece!

Fab video Selena. When I was a young teen, me and my best friend were so into costume jewellery and beautiful clothes etc (we still are) and we always used to say " Imagine if we got locked in the theatre wardrobe department for a night!!" Or....one of our favourite vintage shops. Before all the lockdowns in the UK, we were watching your channel together and you were showing some of your favourite clothing in your dressing room and we looked at each other....eyes wide, open mouthed and exclaimed together "Oh my goodness!! Imagine getting locked in Selena's dressing room overnight!!??" Do you have nieces or friends daughters (or sons of course) who would think they were in heaven to be in your dressing room? 🤗🥰🥰🥰

I take metalsmith classes. I am starting to collect sterling silver turquoise jewelry that I make. My instructor told me that white buffalo is a turquoise the reason that is white or creamy color is because is missing the copper mineral, but is still a turquoise. I will be making a jewelry piece with my white buffalo stones.

Hello. Love your channel. I recently took an old squash to a local store that’s been here in south Florida for over 30 years. A co worker’s husband passed and he had some beautiful turquoise in his collection. The owner said the squash was Navajo 1960’s 70’s. The beads were as you described. They have a seam. He said they were machine made. Mass produced. This was when turquoise Jewelry was so popular. He said the solid beads are man made. I asked about the term “Old Pawn”? He said the proper term is vintage. Old pawn was when an Indian made a piece for another Indian? Just was interesting to me. Keep up the great videos. Love!! Krista Davis

Your Squash Blossom necklaces beautiful and the dark part that you're referring to is what's called The Matrix it is the host stone or the mother stone for the turquoise and that Brilliant Blue of turquoise is usually only found from The Bisbee mine which closed before 1980 so it's highly sought after you should look for any type of Mark or stamp on it to prove that it is from The Bisbee mind

Arizona Highways magazine had an entire publican dedicated to the different turquoise mines and how to tell which mine it came from. It also talks about dyed howlite and how to tell it from turquoise...and how to tell fake stones as well. There's a small mine in NV that re-opened about 20 years ago; the turquoise from that mine is mostly greenish and has a lot of matrix (matrix is the stone component as opposed to the gemstone part) Matrix often has minerals such as copper, zinc and silver, occasionally gold.

    You have a gorgeous collection.
I'm a silversmith. My experience out the gate was at the quartzite gem show. A couple of strung gemstone wholesalers tucked me under their wing and taught me how to make professional silver and turquoise jewelry (beaded back then), what I learned in two months is the tip of the iceberg. You all have the advantage with everything being vlogged about on the Internet.
(yougrowgail): I recommend knowing the real thing in order to recognize fake. Your education comes cheap on the Internet with the right folks. The folks at Nevada's Royston TQ mine, look for Durango Silver Company. Thus named for their jewelry side of the business. There are some vids on turquoise, recognizing fakes etc. enjoy.
Selena, you girls are my faves, I love that people are re finding great pieces and putting them back into circulation.
Learn also about variscite, many people assume it is TQ when it's TQ colored. It's still a gem, but as the consientious gal that you are I know you would want to know the difference. Also maybe research the sad story really, but informative to sellers what old pawn is.
    You rock!

White Buffalo Turquoise is Not Turquoise at all. It is actually a stone called Howlite. Howlite is easily dyed a turquoise color and past off as Genuine turquoise. You really need to know the stone so you won’t get duped. I still have all my lovely Turquoise pieces I bought in the late 60’s and early 70’s. They were so much cheaper back then and were sold in record and paraphernalia shops. Ahhhhhhh, the 70’s!

Hello! “White Buffalo” is not technically turquoise! Although it comes from a mine that also produces some beautiful true turquoise, it lacks certain metal elements (such as copper, iron and zinc) which are found in true turquoise. These elements are also what give turquoise its blue or green color! So it’s more of a close cousin to turquoise than anything- very similar in many ways, but a slightly different elemental composition. Either way, it’s so beautiful and you have an amazing collection!!!

Hey Selena! ❤️ Your friendly florist again...
The etching on your "art nouveau" necklace has a definite Egyptian vibe, which is normal for the nouveau period... It may help you date it. The Egyptian hieroglyphics are full of that botanical design, it's how they would depict lotus flowers. I wish I could post a pic to show you the obvious similarities!
