Florida fishing captain happens to find boaters reported missing a day earlier

- A pair of stranded boaters are safe thanks to a sharp-eyed boat captain from Citrus County who spotted them on the shore of an island about 40 miles offshore. They had been out there for more than a day, dehydrated, hungry, and far from home. Captain Billy Henderson hit the water Wednesday morning for a fishing trip north of Chassahowitzka Bay, but his biggest catch of the day wouldn't involve a line or a net.

And CONSIDER if theres more human alive on earth then people who have died whos to say God didnt bring them back through death sonewhere better? And when I mention getting an EPIRB to boaters they look at me all insulted. An emergency signal goes up to a satellite when activated and you get to go home. Yes, I am retired US Coast Guard and spent many an hour scanning the horizon for over-due / lost boaters. I call them cheap LIVE ASSURANCE. Seldom did it end well. 21 years active duty.
Let me get this straight, they had no cell phone, no vhf radio, no flares, no water. I have never heard such foolish behavior going out on the sea! I would have had a five gallon container of drinking water, a way to make fire, vhf marine radio absolutely!
In Canada...Never have I gone on a boat trip without a full cooler of beer..
And I guarantee you this, that guy will not only have all those, but the training to use them. And spare spares for the spares. His lesson learned. Not everyone is that fortunate.

That man seems so genuine. Glad he was there when he was.
Call it faith, call it luck, call it a gut feeling, call it whatever you want, but it seems this guy was meant to go that way. If he didn’t take that route, the people stranded probably wouldn’t have made it. Glad he did what he could to help.

Let this be a lesson learned: you need to be prepared for worst-case scenarios. Pack extra food, have a distress beacon, and tell people your route.
Staying fit helps too
2nd the distress beacon add survival kit which should include a mirror. If they were on that island a lot longer the would have been a good show for "I shouldn't be alive" series! Glad they were rescued.

One radio would have saved them but most likely no lessons were learned
And a tarp or something to make shade.

Thank God they found them. I always overstocked our boat with supplies and made sure the marine radio was fully charged and let family and/ or neighbors know our plans. A storm has come up out of nowhere a few times and crap happens........something led these fisherman in the right direction.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring extra WATER and food when going on a boat, car trip, hiking etc!!!!! ALWAYS let someone know where you're going and return time! Make sure they will ACTUALLY call 911 when you don't show up and not forget about you, think you're ok for a few days to a week, or call and not follow up!!! Glad they're ok and were rescued!!
All good points. But you don't venture out unskilled untrained and Ill prepared. With the proper training this would not have happened in the first place. He would have known he was not equiped to go that far and stayed in closer. Expensive lesson when it nearly cost someone and yourself your lives. And as captain that other person was his top priority. That alone should have stopped him from going out there.

This reminds me of what I came across the other day;
I was driving to Walmart and up the road I could see a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with cars speeding around it. As I got close I could see someone was in the drivers seat of the stopped car, when I got closer I noticed a puddle on the ground near the driver side door, which was obviously vomit. I then saw an elderly woman behind the wheel vomiting profusely all over herself and the car. I immediately stopped the truck in the middle of the road, I flipped the other drivers the bird as they beeped their horn. I opened the door to the vehicle and I said ma'am are you okay? She mumbles something but I could only make out "my sugar", say no more, I called 911 because the lady was obviously having diabetic issues. I think back and picture all of those cars speeding around this woman and it infuriates me. Whenever you see another human in distress, stop and help, it could be you or your Mother next time. Stay safe y'all.

I simply do not have enough good words for this Captain , he certainly became an angel sent to help , he didn't have a clue when he went out that day that he would become an angel , but he did , and the lives he saved I hope will go on to greatness that would be the best outcome for sure , well they go on to greatness and he gets to know that he saved them for it , that would be fine reward for the man .

There’s a lot , I mean a lot of water and shore line out there. And he “ just happened” to go a way he “ never” goes . Giving God the glory on this , that was no accident he “ just happened “ to go that way just when those two folks needed it. So thankful he helped and so thankful the couples OK. The way that lady was laying I think she had about given up.
