What rods are you using? They looked stout, but pretty long as well. I don't have a dedicated "Tarpon rod"
The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
Was just in the pass last weekend. Best experience of my life, can't wait to go back!! Great video bro keep it up!

What size hook and set up? Where do you get crabs if you don’t see any in the water? I’m headed there in a couple weeks

Not 30 boats, there is 100+ scattered usally. The pass is no fun at all.
There's literally 1000s of tarpon for hundreds of fisherman and they was biting really good if you watch the whole video

Close to my neck of the woods! Boca tarpon rush this time of year is unlike any other fishing I’ve ever done. Chaos is exactly how it should be described. There were close to 250 boats out there a couple weeks back - MADNESS! Tight lines 🤙🏼

Ryan you're in my neck of the wood's!! I keep my boat at Gasparilla Marina. It's combat fishing for Tarpon in that pass!! I usually steer clear of the chaos. Also remember to Bow to the King 🤴!!

I went free diving several hundred meters off of the boca grande pass this morning. Went diving far from the shore there many many times. Never seen a shark. A lot of manatees though.
Tarpon fishing is a rip, but there’s no way I could fish with all those boats piled up.

I fished Ft Myers back in the 80’s. The beaches just southeast of Boca Grande 6-12’ of water holds tarpon too. Less pressure.

I fished Boca Chica Pass once. Tarpon all around and didn't get a single bite. I've fished Anna Maria Island and Tampa bay two years in a row. Both years we were hooked up non stop.

Made that trip 6-8 times over ten years mostly in May. What a workout. Mostly good captains except during the PTTS shows. Can't wait to get back out. Just getting older and the kids are all grown.
A Mark Sosin reference?! I remember that old curmudgeon. Met him in the Keys once. I'm a Florida man, he was a yank. Never watched him again. Oh and he didn't catch anything the day I saw him coming in and when he saw the blackfin and cobia I was chopping up he got all huffy 😂.
Anyway, cool video. Boca Grande was insane when I was there and I never landed a tarpon but it was fun to see fishin' anarchy.

Over population of fishermen and high tech has devastated the fish stocks in Florida. Catch and release fish is about the only thing left. Sharks take what’s left
It’s quite a spectacle. I hope the fish don’t get tired of the pressure and being shark bait and stop using the pass. Then that whole section of coast will have less fish hanging around. It happened in Homassassa. I prefer to run down the beach and look for smaller numbers. It’s too much pressure in there. You got googans running right up on the rollers, the guides think they own it, and 100’s of boats. They should probably limit the season or close down fishing in the pass for a while to make sure it stays the way it is. Awesome video though

I passed boca grande in a 42 yellowfin that day, went out for red snapper, and passing that pass, there was maddd boats, you were probably there
If you ever get over to Miami, I have an interesting and fun way of going for tarpon at night. A lot less boat traffic, too! Cool video.

I’ve never been able to stay hooked up on big tarpon for more than several seconds but tarpon are absolutely my favorite inshore fish.

I'm from Boca and I won't fish the pass during the day. It's to packed and the people are rude and ignorant. I prefer the beaches if I fish in the day.

They take the claws off otherwise the crabs will kill each other pass crabs are ruthless against each other they will rip each other's arms off until there is only one crab with claws 😆🤣

Do the fish ever die when releasing?
I have never had or heard of a tarpon dying after release. Getting sharked yes
@@NFNADVENTURE how do you know? Fingers in the gills aren't good, and getting sharked is pretty fatal
Studies say around 40% of fish usually die after being caught and fighting especially the way tarpon do some fishermen do take the time to revive the fish so it can swim off but a lot of the times the fish die from to much lactic acid build up then they become food
lets try to horse it and wench the fish to the boat....loses first fish of the day....., no docks around, nothing for it to run to cover.....let it burn some dragg and play him in.... rookies....
Lots of big sharks following the school in this area and when you whoop a fish you release it healthier than a long fight
