    I would always wear a helmet and attached ear defenders to carryout this kind of work. Lots of the jobs I have carried out in recent years have been in dodgy locations and the pole saw gives an opportunity to run out of the way, bloody fast.

      You are correct about the headgear. If you've ever been slapped about the head with some falling tree branches then you know.

    Love mine, using the 111R head. Just picked up a 16" bar and chain to replace the 12" that came on her. Going to give her a workout tomorrow.

    These combi's are fantastic tools, I use them every day for work. Stihl has the edge with the hedge cutter but I went for the Husqvarna 535LK due to the extra power!! You won't go wrong with either machine, quality is something you have to pay for.

      Haha you didn’t you you was supposed to put on facial creme before you ran a pole saw? It helps saw dust stick to your face for smoother skin lol.

      Thanks. The 131 power head weighs 9.7lbs the extension is 3.2lbs and the pole saw head is 4.0lbs. So yeah it’s pretty heavy it wears me out after 20 minutes and I’m only 29. I also purchased the strap from STIHL

    I have the HT-KM and it has a 12" bar and 64 tooth blade. I see Oregon supply sells guide bars and blades for half the cost but I would have to convert to a 44 tooth blade and change my sprocket from a 8 tooth to I think a 6 tooth. Have you tried other guides or chains or just recommend the Stihl brand. I already blew through 2 blades and a guide that's why Im asking

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  5 лет назад +2

      I’ve used Oregon bars on my chainsaws before with no problems but For the pole saw I’ve only used the Stihl bar and chains thus far. I’m on my second chain and the bar is still ok. I have no plans on changing the bar to a different brand yet. If you end up and try a Oregon on yours let me know how it works. It is nice to save money

      Long post, maybe it can help someone else, at least non professionals. As mentioned in the video this pole pruner uses a lot of oil, so you need to check and add oil very often. The noise is slightly different without oil, but even with the new electric motor it's not obvious at all... until the chain jumps !
      From the manual : "If the chain runs dry, *the whole cutting attachment will be irretrievably damaged within a very short time*. Always check chain lubrication and the oil level in the tank before starting work."
      "before starting work" is clearly a very bad advice ! they should add "... and every 5-10 minutes" instead !
      Also : "Every new chain has to be broken in for about 2 to 3 minutes.
      After breaking in the chain, check chain tension and adjust if necessary"
      And : "Turn the bar over every time you sharpen the chain and every time you replace the chain"
      I didn't get any explanation nor any manual from my dealer, I had to search online later, couldn't find the manual on Stihl's European website, neither did they reply to my questions, only answer was to contact the dealer... I'm quite happy with this device, but customer care has been deficient.

    When you changed over to a 14 inch bar and chain, did you have to change the sprocket? I tried to change mine and the chain doesn't seem to fit properly in the sprocket. Thanks!

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  5 лет назад

      No I didn’t have to change the sprocket. If you have an older one then you may have to change it. They have 2 different 14in bars. The newer bar is a 72 tooth 1/4 picco. So if you get the correct chain your good to go. Unless yours is the older unit. I’m not sure what the older bar was it may of been called a 14in picco but I’m not a 100% sure
      The chain I got for the 14 is a picco micro type ,1/4 pitch, an a .043 gauge. 72 tooth

    I just bought the 131r and noticed mind is making that ringing sound when u let off throttle and at idle, just as yours is doing. People are saying that’s normal with these thing. Can u shed some lights?

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  5 лет назад +2

      I think it’s the clutch bell( not sure the proper name) making the sound. Try idling the motor down just a little with a Phillips screw driver on the back left just below the carburetor adjustment. I lowered the idle of mine this year and it doesn’t do it that I’ve noticed.

    • @bencebusa1959
      @bencebusa1959 5 лет назад +1

      4M Ranch well I took it to the dealer I bought it it from and they said it’s perfectly normal. It’s the clutch engaging/disengaging. It uses metal clutch. This thing is a beast if anyone looking for serious power.

      @jasonpeterson1424 4 года назад +1

    • @boyse69

      Old KM130r did the same thing it's a metal clutch bell so very Normal when the drive is reduced the parts separate and the gap causes the ringing sound

      What is a nonsafety chain?

    • @4MRanch

      Chains the have a yellow dot on the box. The “safer” chains have the green dot.

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  3 года назад

      Essentially the green dot chain and green bar are for low kick back.

  • @jonla3849
    @jonla3849 3 года назад +8

    You should make an under-cut 1st to prevent the bark from tearing down the trunk.

    • @jonla3849
      @jonla3849 3 года назад +3

      For small limbs make 2 cuts that align. Under-cut 1st. For large limbs use 4 cuts. 1 & 2 a foot or two from the trunk. 3 & 4 close to the trunk but not in to the shoulder ring. This will result in a cut that leaves a very slight "stub", not a flush cut. This type of cut will form callus tissue faster and more completely than a flush cut.

  • @darrengarlough5121

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  5 лет назад +4

      It was running full throttle. I think it sounds like that because it’s a 4 mix an from what I’ve read about them they have a rev limiter on them some how. I’ve tried to adjust it a little with no luck in a power increase. It really has a lot of power how it is. I don’t think you would be disappointed.
