Today Im doing my first paid tree service job of the year. I'm headed about 12 miles north to a customer's house to trim his locust tree with my stihl ht131 pole saw and my trusty stihl ms290 chainsaw.I hope your all having a good day and thanks for watching.

That pole saw is a 4 mix engine . It’s 4 stroke but uses premix fuel . They are a great unit and have plenty of power . You won’t regret buying it .
Key to theses situations is to work your way back keep them small and safe might be a few more trips to the trailer to pick them up but much safer 👍😁good job Ben

An external Mike would be nice, can’t hear you over the chain saws running. Not trying to tell you what to do....but I have always found an undercut on the branch you are cutting first, will prevent the branch from pinching and or stripping bark off the wood you are leaving on the tree. A score cut below, then the cut above to drop the branch. This also can prevent the branch from hanging and swinging as it comes down (Possibly hitting you or knocking out the ladder from under you). Just tossing,in my 2 cents, not trying to be critical,trying to be helpful. 🪵👍🤠👏

I agree. Undercut first and let the branch fall when the cut is done on top. That way, the bar isn't pinched and/or damaged when it finally falls.
You made me laugh when you said your wife wasn’t happy with your saw purchase. My wife hates it when I go to my Stihl dealer too! 😜

My wife hates everything about chainsaw’s, wood splitters etc. but likes the wood burning fire on 😀

As I sit here, I am debating this purchase. I am always happy I buy Stihl products, but my butt hurts for a few days after each purchase.
I am trying to talk my husband into buying one rather than climbing up the trees or ladders with his chain saw. At 81 I think he should be paying someone else to prune the trees or go logging for the woodburner. He keeps it going day and night and it eats a barrel of wood every twenty four hours. Not sure which Stihl model to go for so watching the videos …. At our age we should be just turning on the central heating 😊 Three weeks after a heart attack he was up on the roof sweeping the chimney 😢
Powered pole saw is a must have if you have trees and maintain your own property. I bought a battery version last year and it has really gotten a workout. Looking at getting a Stihl. Have one of their chainsaws and it is the best saw that I have had.
I finally sprung for the Stihl HT131. It has really changed the look of my mini farm. Awesome for reaching in to cut the bottom limbs of cedar trees. The top handle saw is worth getting too. Makes pruning and liming big stuff a breeze its the perfect weight. I wish I had bought one years ago.
Those pole saws are nice to have when you need one. I bought one 15 years ago. I have used it a lot. Trimmed my parents trees and some of my friends have had me trim their trees to. The longer you extend it the heavier it seems to be.

Funny story for you, the first year I was married came home with a 32” monster Simplicity snowblower ($1200) back than.
Well my new wife wasn’t too happy to say the least!!!
Told her it will make us a lot of money, she said yea sure!!!
Well I still have that machine today 27 years later and still have my wife. So she never says a word about spending money to buy equipment, and I have bought hundreds of thousands dollars in equipment. So I know what you mean about making money with your toys.

Started with a 27 ton Troy built,
Last year I purchased a powersplit single vertical/conveyor. That machine put us in a whole new ball game! We are putting out some wood this year.
Also purchased a new DK4710 Kioti with a grapple another nice piece. I’m done for a while making those types of purchases but I think that’s all I need for a while. Ben keep the videos coming!!

I bought a house, that had an old dead stick (pretty much) tree standing in a spot where I couldn’t just fell it. I purchased the Kombi motor, an extension, and the pole saw attachment. I was able to stand on the roof with it, and cut it from that height, then fell the stick. Worked out great, and I have several different attachments for the Kombi so it doesn’t just sit around waiting for another job... I don’t have a tree service.
Originally I wanted the kombi because of how cool they are. But then I got this because I needed the reach and not sure if kombi extends as long ?
Yeah, it probably doesn’t. I think you’re on the right track if you’re gonna use it enough. I keep my Kombi employed weed eating and hedge trimming. I’ve also found that it makes a nice short pole saw without the extensions. I used it that way just this last fall...

They sure do. Cuts good thou. I'd have had to rent a lift for that if I didn't have it. And the job didn't pay enough to justify renting a lift. So it got me a job and paid for half of itself so far
Nice job. I recommend only mixing the ultra 2 bottle with ethanol free gasoline. I did a video on it. The ethanol is horrible for the little carbs on these engines.
So do you think even if it's lower octane as long as it says ethanol free it's a better way to go ? I just try and get the premium but I should have paid better attention ?

I got that same ladder in fact two of them been pretty good other than being a bit of a pain on the latches. Looking at that pole saw have had an Oregon battery one that has given me great use. In fact weight wise less than that steel Stihl. 40 volt. Cuts some pretty good sized limbs with that 9" bar.

I love my pole saw not only for the reach but under brush with sticker and thorns, put saw in first to clear the path
This thing is heavy. But I think it'll come in incredibly handy for small trimming jobs

At Caseys you can get no ethanol fuel. It does not absorb water.
Is that the 91 I got ? Or is there a better kind that I should get ?
I would invest in climbing gear when they have the spring sales you can get in to it kinda inexpensive and I suggest chainsaw pants or chaps to protect your self when using your 194t and 131 pole saw
Use that non ethanol gas to the left. Your power equipment will thank you. 👍
That is some impressive machine, I bet you could take the whole tree down with that and cut the big bark last with the chainsaw. Good job!

You have to be really careful with the pole saw when it is extended out all the way. You can spring them real easy. I very rarely extend mine out all the way.
Hopefully you didn't get frostbite on your face. Your cheeks looked really cold.

I now get my fuel at the local airport. It is ethanol free and 100 octane and does contain a little lead.

Everyone starts at the beginning.
I borrowed my neighbors pole saw today to trim a few branches in my yard.
It was the same model pole saw.
I felt like I had a workout at the gym after I was done.
But it made it possible to cut those branches that needed to go.
Great video, sorry that you ended up with the out-of-true on the extension… maybe get it straightened sooner rather than later in case it damages the driveshaft or plastic bearings.
Great video Ben! I’ve been working on a bunch of pin oak rounds cutting and splitting it’s relaxing to me. Where did you get those earplugs? Wouldn’t mind have a pair like that.
They give em to us at my work. I've had that pair for 2 months. And the tips that go in your ears can be switched out to new ones
I find it interesting that you talk about safety yet you do not wear a helmet.
Same as me,my mom aint happy me buying all kind of machinery,but i insisted on buying them becouse i need it for our farm.Make the job quicker,save more energy and time.But im just buying cheap chinese tools.Stihl is way more than i can afford.

Is the saw self oiling ?
If you got your fuel at Casey's their med grade fuel does contain ethanol . If the fuel sits in an engine it will absorb water. There is a way you can test the fuel for ethanol by taking a tall skinny jar like an olive jar. Pour 1 or 2 ounces of water in the jar mark the jar where at the level of the water. now add the fuel to be tested into the jar. Shake well and let is sit for a couple of hours if the water/ethanol level is higher than before it is a blend of ethanol and water. I know the pump at caseys says non ethanol but that is for that grade only. I my area Caseys quit selling ethanol free fuel because of the lack of demand. Oh, the fuel in the jar is now ethanol free. 3.o4 k subscribers getting close to 5K. Good job.

Adjust the carburetor and it will cut lot faster.
Yuo should cut a little from the bottom then the rest from the top.

Engines love steady RPMs: full throttle under load, idle when not.

A thornless honeylocust before because they are just decorative trees and there aren’t that many of them were I live.

Pole pruners (chainsaw on a stick) have a default 2 year warranty. They're in the same category with trimmers and leaf blowers. Buying the oil or pre-mix, it doubles to 4 years.
How come no safety helmet, ear protection??
