  • I'm so tired of throw-away trimmers, SO I bought a good one. The Stihl KM91r Professional Grade Trimmer with the Stihl KombiSystem. BUT... Will I now have to get all new attachments? Let's find out!

    Great information Sam. Battery operated yard tools are very convenient, but as for longevity with proper maintenance, I believe a gas-powered yard tool is a better option. 3000 subscribers is right around the corner.😄👍

      Thank you! Lessons learned. It really is better to buy once, cry once. Buy quality tools that will be reliable and last. The battery trimmer is so convenient and for a typical residential property, it might be enough, but I've got serious work to do 🤠👍

      @@samsdoinstuffyou'll be much happier with that Stihl Kombi...I am an Echo guy...just posted up a couple shorts showing the same type of 'universal' attachments working in my Echo PAS-2620...I will have to make a 'how to' like yours...great production quality...all the best!

    That's great, just a few adjustments and you can use your existing attachments with the Stihl power head. Those 4 mix engines have valves, kinda neat but something that requires maintenance. Have a good one Sam!

    • @samsdoinstuff

      Thank you for letting me know about the valves! I still need to read the manual, which I always do. I also feel very good about the support I'll have from my local Stihl dealer rather than just Home Depot. 🤠👍

    I agree! For safety you need to excavate the area on foot before you can cut it with the lawnmower. Yes 4 stroke. I have the FS 91. They require the gas mix still to keep them lighter. No oil pump and sump. Thanks for sharing Sam! Cheers, Mike.

    I have owned the KM-90-r for 8 years and it has performed absolutely great. I've only had to replace air/fuel filter and plugs. I own 5 attachments and though I'm missing a few, I am hesitant to add third party due to the issues reported with the drive system over time. It seems the edges of the drive attachment wear over the years on the attachment end. I haven't had the issue - just some time it gets hard to attach due to the cable pushing back into the steel handle. I dunno...

    • @samsdoinstuff
      @samsdoinstuff  8 месяцев назад

      That is a good point and I did think about that. The square drive is the exact same size, so it shouldn't cause problems. I thin the most important thing is to hand rotate the attachment before running the power head so you're sure it has a complete connection. If an attachment fails, I will replace it with the Stihl counterpart 🤠👍

    I haven't had any issues with the Dewalt 60V 16" chainsaw or my Dewalt 60V trimmer...the trimmer I haven't used much, but the chainsaw got a workout right after I bought it a couple years ago cutting up a walnut tree. The only thing with the chainsaw is, you don't get much done on one battery charge LOL...gotta have several of those batteries charged and waiting if you are gonna do any significant amount of cutting. I have a gas power head for my attachments, but the battery power head is convenient.

    • @samsdoinstuff
      @samsdoinstuff  8 месяцев назад

      I can definitely agree about battery consumption. I have 4, 9 amp hour batteries, and I'll use them all when I have a lot to cut. I do hope they can fix the trimmer head like they did my chainsaw. I haven't had any issues since it was repaired. I don't think I overwork them either. I'll let everyone know what Dewalt says about it 🤠👍

      @samsdoinstuff  8 месяцев назад

      That's great! Glad I could help. You definitely have to do your research. For instance, Honda has their "VersAttach" system that absolutely will not take any other attachments. That's one reason I went with Stihl 🤠👍

  • @aussiecro.
    @aussiecro. 4 месяца назад

    I understand your point of view about reusing attachments from other manufacturers...which would be really cool if manufacturers were interested in apply the USB-C concept to their tools...unfortunately, we don't live in such utopic times. That being said, there is the inevitable question of quality ie. the reason you buy Stihl is for the quality/longhevity and the reason you buy Ryobi is the direct opposite (speaking relatively, not bashing the brand itself)...using the ryobi attachment on such a powerful headunit (I myself have the KM131R) would be time dependant IMHO.
