  • I did the Ralph Novak wiring mod that I found in Guitar Player magazine in 1993 and using the only capacitor I had to hand I find that I pre-empted Duesenberg's tone control by some years. That is the honky sound with the tone rolled off. This is not a typical sounding Stratocaster I would say. I love it though. The amp continues to delight.

    Did you get the tremolo to work after turning the VAC on?

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  2 года назад

      The trem works fine but not at full depth with the attenuator.

    Great sounding pair, Lazy j quite expensive to get made & sent to the US. Probably easier to get a real vintage one in the states. But we can enjoy your playing in the meantime. Cheers from California !

    Is it too loud for small places?? Or define good sound in low volumes? Thanks

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  3 года назад +2

      It depends entirely on your neighbours. It is loud enough for small gigs so for most people too loud at home. I use the attenuator fully on and am thinking of changing from 6L6s to 6V6s so I don't have to use the attenuator so much. I get my drive sounds from pedals mainly and that also means I can keep the volume down. Having said all that, even very quiet the quality and feel are outstanding. It is without doubt the best amp I've owned. If you want an exceptional quality amp for home you could talk to Jesse Hoff about his newer J10 perhaps or even the J5. I hope that helps :-)

      @@PaulMcCaffreyfmac theres a lot of waiting time for j10, and found a j20 mint new With VAC. Vac is good enough? Don’t affect quality sound? Thanks so much for your answer. Use a pensa mk-90 now

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  3 года назад

      @@cristianserrano5072 I'm ok with the VAC because, as I say, I keep the amp clean and get drive sounds from pedals mostly so it is a decision you must make for yourself. Obviously at high volumes the speaker plays more of a part in the sound so it will be different.
      I know there have been fake Lazy Js so I would strongly suggest that you contact Jesse with the serial number just to make sure. If the seller won't let you do that I would not buy it.

    • @justinspivey2663
      @justinspivey2663 2 года назад

      You can play this at home or on a stage, the VAC is extremely useful for bringing the headroom right down. On a stage it’s still punches through very easily

      2 extra sounds so I suppose you could say 7 way. 3 way switch like a Tele - neck, neck+bridge, bridge with master tone and master volume. The middle tone is now the volume for the middle pup so the extra sounds are all 3 together and neck + bridge together

    Hi Paul. Just found this video. Fantastic playing and with such a tone. That Lazy J want is burning me hard so I got to get myself one. Contacted Jesse this week and received the price list. Not sure whether to go for fully loaded ?
    Keep going with videos mate. brings a lot of enjoyment. Gerry

      Thanks for the very kind words. I think the situation has changed in that I don't think that no reverb is an option anymore but whatever the case, I would go for as many options as possible if only because the resale value (if it comes to it which hopefully it won't) will be maximised and someone will snap it up straight away. Also, the tremolo is really lovely sounding. If you go for it I'm sure you'll love it. They are wonderful amps.

      @@PaulMcCaffreyfmac Indeed your advice contained very wise words Paul. I did as you suggested & Jesse got the amp to me fully loaded right bang on time mid December. Spending time exploring the multitude of tones the lazy J10LC amp offers.
      Feels like starting all over as the 2 vol, 1 tone operates differently to my previous amp. So far found a couple of settings that give a lovely clean tone using my Fender Strat. Unfortunately the virus prevents me calling in my old pal Guitarheadful to set me on the way forward. Keep well

      Paul McCaffrey is it the two volume control one? I do remember it vaguely. Bill Lawrence used to suggest one also based on the two volumes and three way that he claimed he set up on one of hendrixs strats. I've always enjoyed the two volumes because of the ability to introduce a bit of resistance between the coils. It's much thicker than the standard strat notch positions we are used to and I think it actually punches through a mix very effectively in a different fashion.

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  7 лет назад +1

      Could be....It is exactly like a Tele (three way switch master tone and volume) with the middle control changed from neck tone to middle volume so you can have all five regular combos plus all three pups on

    • @PoJoWo
      @PoJoWo 7 лет назад

      Paul McCaffrey cool, sounds like it. Brill. Mr Lawrence also used to have the tone wired so that the pot was always in the circuit but you gradually shorted it out with the cap till it was parallel at fully off. Takes the humpf out of the tone down position. Much like the modern greasebucket thing Fender do. I really enjoyed josie by the way, I wander to that one frequently, and peg. Can't beat some nice chords.
