As a J10 / Strat owner who hasnt as yet managed to achive a good blues tone (too old perhaps) this video is worth it weight in gold to me. Very little in the way of settings guides for Lazy J's on the internet or at least that I have found. Thank you
Thank You for demonstrating tones with the Strat & Lazy J10 amp. I have this same amp + guitar and have been a fish out of water trying to get a nice smooth blues tone and struggled to find guidance. Ha I would add that as a 72 year old newbie to learning guitar it doesn't take a lot to confuse. Please keep the tone videos coming with the Lazy J10
Excellent video, James. Really enjoy hearing you play over a backing track (beautiful playing by the way). I liked all three guitars with the Lazy J, but the Strat was particularly good. Seeing how you tweak the settings to get just the right sound with a guitar and amp combination is very helpful. Keep up the great work.
Killer sounds. I actually screamed YES! at my computer screen when you went into the first dialed in section. What a fantastic classic amp design, endless shades of tone with 3 knobs. Great video, it was really interesting to hear your thought process as you're dialing in the amp for different guitars. Thanks for all the hard work it's fun to watch. Cheers!
James, I have a J20, and if I set the volume and attenuator to those levels, I couldn’t be in the same room. Do you know, is the J10 that much quieter?
Hi James, from your personal experience how would you compare the general build quality and reliability of your Fender Champ compared to the Lazy J? Thanks
For the Stratocaster is probably my favorite in the mix. The danocaster didn’t sound as “thin” as I thought but I still think the SG has that nice warm sound which puts it in 2nd imo. With the danocaster third didn’t necessarily not like it just preferred the others.
Thanks for another great in-depth demo. I’m looking at buying a tweed amp. Ever since I heard a bassman With a custom Strat live I knew I had to get that sound. The tweed basement is a little loud for me so I’m looking at a smaller tweed. Either the Bartel, a lazy j like yours, or maybe a Victoria. Between the Bartel and the lazy j which do you think is best specifically for the tweed sound?
Interested to know what pedals you end up using with the lazy J. I’ve tried quite a few with my J20 now I don’t like any of them as much as I like the sound of the amp. Currently Waiting for a Snouse Black box in the hope that fits the bill.
If people knew a Lazy J 20 runs about $4000, they'd stick with a new Fender Deluxe or some other reasonably priced, good amp. These boutique amps are like Apple iPhones and MacBooks; pricey has hell and just not that much better than the alternatives.
James, I really dig the sounds you get out of this amp man. Until I subbed your channel I honestly would’ve never even considered a Lazy J 😂 I blame you for this ahah, I need to get me one of these amps one of these days. My go to guitar is usually my SG as well, I have two of them and I love that gold one you own. Don’t ever sell that thing! 🤙
Hey man! Love the In the Mix ideas! Keep them coming! I’ve been subscribed but just commenting to hopefully support you with the algorithm and I’d love to try that Protein! Best wishes for you and the wife bro!
Hey man!! if u can give me your 2 cents : I keep looking at "the greg combo by Kock" it sounds and have all the features i dream for an amp ( without testing it) but it has 25w swtichable to 50w, it does have a master volume but i fear it will be too loud ( i can order it and send it back with small payment so it would be worth just trying it) BUT something like lazy j (less watts) and amazing sound but way less features is also an option, i really do not know what to do, to touch a lazy j it would mean to fly to uk which is expensive and cant do too soon. Whats ur opinion or the greg combo amp ? I need a clean amp with BIG headroom, outside of that id love reverb and harmonic tremolo ( which greg amp has but i could buy pedals) and for overdrive sounds the greg does it too, but that would work for smth like lazy j + pedals too, so i reallllly dont know what route to go xD. I will use it only in my studio to play for fun and maybe just maybe record it.
Hey! Just watching a demo of that amp by greg on wildwood. I like a lot of the tones from it - seems very versatile. i don't like the most overdriven tones from it with the les paul but everything else sounds great. I would say just imho the lazy j has one tone but it is just incredible, but this amp has lots of great tones if not the absolute greatest. The koch amp doesn't have a tweed tone, it has that later sound and more scooped etc. I would start with the Koch amp I think :) hope that helps
@@JamesOnGuitar thank u for taking the time :D I think he described it as fenderish cleans and marshaly overdrive which would suit me honestly, do u think the clean is in the Princeton kinda ball park? I'll only have studio monitors in a few days to listen better but it seem like a good ol vintage clean to me on the koch:-?
I cannot imagine for players owing a huge collection of amps with each having a lot of switches and knobs to experiment with , in order to achieve "THE SOUND" .What do you think about this when ,a great player reveals his amp settings for his sound does he try a lot of permutations and combinations to get there , or do they get lucky while "CHASING THAT TONE"
The pro’s i know are very particular about their sound! They tend to know what they want and then figure out which amp and which settings very carefully
Hey all! This is a journey for me - always trying to just get better at this video by video :) Have a good one!
Broadcaster vs Danocaster vs Blue Tele please 😉

What a tone! This is why tube amps cannot be replaced by any digital technology!

That gold SG is just marveolous!!!
Love that thing!!
Really enjoying these videos. Too often guitars are demo'd in isolation. The Dr Z amp sounds killer in the mix when dialled in.
Nice amp, just ordered one.

That Gibson SG gold finish is fantastic. Should be a standard colour choice

Great stuff!
Sick vid sounds awesome
Great
🤘👍🏿
Really informative as always! James, who in the uk stocks lazy j as I struggle to find a dealer? Thank you in advance 😊
Thanks 🙌 Coda do. They had a j20 in last time i checked!
@@JamesOnGuitar they have a 10 now
How do you record the amp?
A sm57 and sontronics delta 2 ribbon on the amp, a room mic (akg c414) into an apollo 8xp and logic 👍🏼
Were did you learn to play like?
