In this episode of Tone Heaven I play Meet Me In The City by Junior Kimbrough/The Black KEys with my Gibson SG and some pedals through the Two Rock Bloomfield Drive. You're a great player and I enjoy your licks a lot. But I feel that you can achieve the sound you're looking for from almost every one of these guitars by using the EQ on the guitar or getting a specific Amp which you like. I say this from experience. The only thing that's actually hard to deal with is a muddy neck pickup ( in my opinion ) such as Burstbuckers. Amp and tone knobs on the guitar can get you closer to the tone you hear in your mind. I definitely like how you started playing the Les Pauls acoustic acoustically first. I also check carefully the weight distribution on the wood from neck to body.

    Is it just me or is this guy like completely wrong about the sound? Honestly, I’ve played through one of these and it sounds amazing! Not sure about the longevity of it. But I truly don’t understand this negativity on the tone from this guy.

    Dude, I looked at your channel and subscribed before I watched any of the videos. So playing an E chord with tremolo and the guitar tuned down is how you test how an amp sounds??? Play the goddamn thing and stop fucking off on one chord

    These amps are tonally different out of the gate. It would be easy for someone to say one is better than the other because all of those Dumble wanna-be's are very mid focused, and mesa has never tried to be Dumblesque. Randall was really always a huge fan of Leo Fender and you can see that in his tone stacks that he built. I believe Mesa's are very versatile amps, but they usually end up in the metal corner which is just one way to use them. They are very capable amps. I have 2. A Mark V 90 and a Blue Angel. Great amps. I never really got with the whole Dumble thing because 1) Its mainly mystique, and 2) I've personally never been a fan of any of the big name people who used them from a tone perspective. I mean they have good tone, but its never grabbed me to the point that I Jones for a Dumble clone.

    Great vidi. As always, it’s fun to watch you ask these questions of your machines as we do of ours. The first thing I did when I bought my first boutique amp was trade-in my Hot Rod Deluxe toward it. I’ve often wondered how the Hot Rod would stand up to my ears now that I’ve got a few more interesting amps and loads more of interesting pedals. And importantly, a more learned acumen in my discernment of tone variety. And most of all, as is so evident watching your evolution, better and better hands. Keep up the great playing.

    • @ecowill10
      @ecowill10 9 дней назад

      Hello james, thank you for replying. I mainly use an es 335 with humbuckers and a les paul with p90s. I mostly play bluesy, progressive rock with oriental attitude( we greeks love modal music) , so i am looking for a very raw tone, edge of break up to tube distortion. I dont use a lot of pedals, just a wampler tumnus or ocd full tone (if that). From your videos i am enjoying the bartel as i said and the rift. I could go the attenuator route but i wouldn't prefer it.

      @@ecowill10 that sounds like the bartel would be ideal. It has a great raw tweed tone and can be played very quietly. Its blackface tone is wonderful too. The marshall side less so but it doesn’t sound like you want that anyway!

    I have the same amp. If you go out the second input with a cable to a non reverb amp, it send the reverb to that amp. You can turn the volume right down on the Gibson and turn the reverb up and you get full wet reverb. Add volume on the other amp and bring up volume on the Gibson to suit. The trem doesn’t move to the other amp, however if you go out the monitor jack, you get the full sound of the amp with reverb and trem sent to the other amp. It’s pretty cool. I did the capacitor mod on mine and it opened up the amp big time. Lots more thicker tone and more volume. Just so you know. Enjoy your Gibson. I also have a 1960 GA 30 tweed Invader.

    It doesn't matter,tube amps are a thing of the past.. With today's technology ss is the way to go,it's getting to the point where there is no real difference in tone, and with ss there's really no maintenance, no buying tubes or biasing or any of that.. New ss has onboard effects that run after the preamp instead of dinosaur tube amps where you have to run effects in front of the pre(unless it has an independent effects loop)..Tube amps are obsolete in 2024! Ss is lighter, more user friendly, economical and just better than tube amps now... Sorry tube guy's...
