I'm still trying to figure out how RUclips put you on my page. I'm glad they did and it's been a pleasure watching this recovery.

That's some American rain right there

I scrolled down to see if anyone else said something about the gunshots lmao
That looks like a big Cam 3 and possibly a 350 or 400 but cuz of the paint scheme that was a produce hauling truck in the day and what you're doing with that truck is absolutely awesome I've been at it since 75 driving and to see an old truck brought back to life brings a big smile on my face thank you for taking a time to video all this because I know there's a lot of old-time drivers out there that have got a huge smile on your face
Tip: when ya go to change filter, drive a screwdriver thru the bottom so it drains into the pan so it makes less of a mess.
maxst2 true story, when i did 7.3’s i always cracked them loose then did a pitbull shank hole in the bottom then the top, ever since i got a 2qt oil shower 😅
Stimpy&Ren true, thats why i said to crack it free first before you put any holes in it
@Stimpy&Ren then it's your fault for cranking it down too hard :P
I was a semi truck mechanic for awhile, and one time the filter slipped out of my hands and into the drain pain filled with 10 gallons of hot dirty oil. It wasn't just a mess on the floor, it was a mess on me too!
As a 14 yr old back in 1958, I enjoyed helping my neighbor change the oil and filters on his big rig and he also had his own gas pump, so we filled his rig as well. He drove for Roadway Express if I remember correctly, and he always took us for a quick ride for helping him out. Even at the ripe age of 75 I still enjoy watching them get maintained.
Road Runner that’s dope
working for roadway Express? those Jokers now won't even touch the dipstick let alone doing a basic service.
When pre-filling filters I always fill through the small hole not the large one. That way the fluid actually goes through the filter element. If any crud happened to get in there when filling it would go straight into the compartment unfiltered. Just food for thought. Cool old IH truck!
Love how you showed the detail of what it takes to take care of this truck!!!!! You make me proud!!!!!!!!! As a son of a truck driver, this makes me extremely happy!!!!!!!
Whoever was holding the camera for you freaking rocks with it!! steady and great angles!
Steady? They were waving it around like a checkered flag at Daytona.
I never thought that watching a semi being restored was something that would interest me, but here I am. Loving all the videos man. Keep em coming. New subscriber here
mr2foryou lmao same it’s so interesting
Watch welker farms restore their semi. Best i have seen.
Same! I love watching this project unfold...
Same here... This is really cool to watch.
That’s the same for me
Can’t believe you found that in a field and got it up and running. Great job I never thought I’d enjoy watching a semi being restored but here I am. If you wanna fix mine it’s ready for you.
I love how there is gunshots in the background and you're chill af.......murica son 🇺🇸
Freaks me out as a Canadian, I'd be panicking if I heard them going off so close by.

They are a big issue even where i live.
But no gunz allowed in this part of Europe.
@@dan_6915 Same with Canada, you can get them but you have to jump through a lot of government hoops and red tape to get them.
18:09 "It's about to rain here" RAIN LEAD!!!
noah w hahaha here come the shells of FREADOM
Please restore it to its former glory, like keep the paint scheme and wheels the same but make them look like brand new again!
Yes this truck need big restoration to his original glory! Now its already piece of history and I love it!
Your proposal is over budget...
@@mkhal8 I'll take note of that word, for sure I'll find a lot of situations to use that
@@mkhal8 restoration is not really something you're supposed to do on a budget anyways, it'll cost a lot of money to make almost anything with a motor brand new again and that's if you do it the right way like you're supposed to
@@Dunki113 you have the obsulately the right answer bro...
I like seeing things being restored saved or brought back to life! Thank you! Subscribed cant wait for more of these videos. Also keep it the same paint scheme very original and not common. Truly unique 👍
You mentioned that the shifting seemed "stiff". Looks like you have an Eaton-Fuller transmission so the shift lever should go into a control box that actuates the shifting. There's a drain plug on the bottom/side of the box - remove and drain. Fill/clean with some diesel and refill with some light motor oil. Use synthetic if you're headed for cold country.
@Christian Macri With cabovers, the stick doesn't work directly on the transmission. It goes to a control box that is mechanically linked to the transmission. The box contains oil and the rubber boot can allow water to get into box that creates a heavy brown goo. The box has a drain plug and it should be serviced every year or so.
I dont know how i came across your channel but its sick dude
what this guy said. Fun content bro 👊
Dude so is that m4 of yours
The Algos are working this channel today.
@@MichaelDouglas-24 yea thats my m4, check it out on instagram @frosty_m4
Bruce you definatley need to change the fluid in the transmission and the rear pumpkins when it's that old, air filter and Prestone as well...beautiful rig!!
Loved watching these videos, thanks for posting them. Its great to see something abandoned get reclaimed and running again.
Thank you for actually doing maintenance on a recovered machine. All too often I see guys recover a machine then just do nothing and hammer it. Oil, grease and filters are important!
You also have a oil filter in your "Power Steering Reservoir" container on your frame behind cab.
Dude- my dad drove that truck when I was a little kid. Back then, it seemed so huge. So small compared to today's big trucks. Anyway, been following since the rescue, please keep the videos coming man, they're great!
Its probably yours. Is the number 848 yours or familiar to yours?
Hi
Ive drove same model as well as others from that line before and after that series . Dam fine trucks even if it is a eleven letter shit spreader and wants to turn left when you go past a corn field . I can say that been there done that .
@@FrezzyYT Bruce bought it
His "huge oil filter" mention made me realize how much larger the modern stuff is as well
wow, that is awesome you are doing! God Bless you! That made me feel so right! Because I´ve got a old pickup stucked at my front yard for about 5 years and I´ve got a dream to make it works again! So you really inspired me a lot, Thank you so much!
You are the first video I actually searched for and watched, you video is like yoga to the mind......refreshing
I like to clean off the ends of the fittings before I hook up the gun. Helps keep debris out of the bearings.
I noticed that too- any crud, sand or dirt over the last 20 yrs will get pushed into the bearings
Not to mention he blasted the cam seals with that power greaser cranked up like that...
Some suggestions based upon experience with old trucks;
If you are planning on taking it on a public road, change every air line going to the brake chambers. The law will be pulling you over and checking for old cracked airlines. Second, replace ALL of the fuel lines - both supply and return. Old fuel lines will crack and draw air into the fuel and return lines will leak. Once you start driving the truck, all of the vibrations will cause you a lot of leaks in the fuel and air lines because they have gotten brittle over time. And last, the air diaphragm in the brake chambers are 20 years old - ie just ready to burst. Yes, you can rebuild them but use a lot of caution because there is a powerful spring inside the brake can.
Rehabilitation of an old truck is more than making it pretty and changing fluids. Basically all plastic and rubber lines get brittle.
OMG I forgot about that. Those brake springs can be a killer. I used to know a truck mechanic that had a big chuck of his skull dented in from an accident with a brake spring. It seems a bit of gravel got jammed in the lock so that it did not fully engage. He pulled the housing and the spring popped lose and almost killed him.
* Edited because I can't spell worth a flip!
A trick i learned with that is to plumb air into the spring brake to release it when piggybacking. You can also cage it but to me its way faster to just put a plug on it and hook an air hose to it
Omg have you guys ever worked on heavy vehicle 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Props on the success, Bruce, you've got a good niche. We love to see diesel powered stuff get restored.
Can’t wait to see this finished! Keep posting everything.
That start up was beautiful! Priming the fuel filter is huge when you're doing routine maintenance. I definitely wasn't expecting to hear it start that smoothly! Well done Bruce!
Yup. That was nice.
I am really enjoying this series. Keep them coming.
Love seeing old iron brought back to life. Good job. I have one of them Milwaukee guns they`re nice.
When the gun starts shooting and he doesn't even acknowledge it 😂
Thats what amazed me,

That’s the good ol country living. We use to gun shots and don’t have to worry bout it being nothing more than a little target practice. Lol. It’s hunting season got to brush up on them skills

Great videos. Great project. Editing should be your best friend. I find myself skipping forward a lot as I don't need to see peeling the seal off a new oil bottle, refilling the grease gun, tightening the airline or drain plug. Cut these down about 10 min and you're golden!

I bought an old 7.3 idi that sat for 12 years. It's running, but should I check the tanks? Clean or replace? Thanks.
I worked at a Union 76 Stop in Columbia, SC in another life, pumping #2, topping off the oil with Rotella T and thumping the tires, 12-shifts. Some of my coworkers were trustees from CCI. Seems like the old Internationals were the only rigs where you didn't have to pull out a 7- foot dipstick from the front. And I thought I was the last man standing who still hasn't started wearing those fancy gloves. Nice work.

It’s advisable to jack the front wheels of the ground when you grease the kingpins.

King pins taper, jack it up so that grease gets way in there.

yes, don't drain the tanks without us.

@@kodiakradio7510 That's what I'm thinking. I'd unstrap those tanks and change the valves anyway. As long as they've been sitting I can't imagine they aren't seized. Then again, I'm surprised how good the engine is after sitting so long.

Yeah i was gonna say and front hub bearings, oil and sight glasses

Won´t the transmission oil change after all these years cause the transmission box to colapse? The "bad" thick oil is what˙s keeping it together to be honest
@@markoniksic3630 That's a myth! Look, if you gotta a fluid holding something like a transmission together, it's f@#$3d and needs to be repaired/replaced. You gotta change 20+ year fluids!
@@mintercms Yeah obviously it needs to be changed, my guess is the box won't last that long aswell

Should of drained diesel tank and added fresh diesel after changing fuel filter
I was cringing the whole time he was screwing the new fuel filter on, knowing he did not drain the old fuel from the beast first.
Why did he started the rig without changing the 20 year old fuel
Its a old big cam it will run on anything
He should probably replace the fuel filter again after the tanks are clean, but if he wanted to run it that day (and in this video) maybe it was worth "wasting" the filter.
@lordbeavis69 No matter what he should change the oil and fuel filter not too many hours after starting to use it again with 20 years of rusting away. I would expect and keep looking for failures tbh. An engine sitting this long is going to have metal shavings more then usual and he will want to remove that asap
