    I'm not a truck driver, but I believe drivers should be making 2-3 times what they are making based on the numbers I hear on this channel. I don't want to be driving anywhere close to a driverless truck weighing 80+ thousand pounds.

  • @floyd6929
    @floyd6929 Год назад +3

    First, there is no driver shortage. If that were true then freight rates would reflect that.
    It seems insane to me that FMCSA and State DOTs would allow unproven tech onto the roadways. I had to pass a CDL test proving not only could I drive a Class A but that I could also back up and park ext.
    Thankfully the industry is so FUBAR that it's actually a great defense. On the other hand, it be funny when no one has drivers to fuck with anymore.

    at almost 60 yrs old, I will be retired before this happens. On one side I can see self driving trucks making it cheaper to get products to market, but on the other hand I see many major carriers using them and drivers losing jobs or the mile rate going down.. Then again the software is programmed by humans and we make mistakes, so a whole new legal field will happen.

      No, it will cost more, they'll add in the price of the 300-600k truck. And then have weather shutdowns and our prices for everything will skyrocket.

  • @veracityseven

    The trucking industry lobby (if there even is one) had better get their asses in gear! Trucks WILL be autonomous, but what needs to happen is to impress upon the bureaucrats (that shouldn't have the power but do) that trucks need to be handled just like airplanes. There should always be a human at the wheel ready to take control. Airplanes have MUCH easier navigational requirements than do trucks, and they have been able to take off, fly, and land autonomously for years, and yet they have a full crew at all times.

    • @AustinBeCrazy
      @AustinBeCrazy 11 месяцев назад

      The autonomous would be pointless then. The whole purpose is to remove the driver.

  • @CSTA2024

    Hello ET Transport.
    In my research so far, there is a Level breakdown of the autonomy, with Level 5 being where there is No Driver, and Levels 1-4, do require a driver.
    A few years ago, the MTO was trying their hand at "Platooning". But Companies failed to comply with what was needed, and the distances between the trucks were a joke. In Europe, they are working with a spacing of 5 to 15 meters, and here in Ontario, they were asking for a 42 to 47-meter separation. Times that by 3.3, and you will understand. With that kind of distance is, and guess who didn't help?
    I have since sent a letter to the MTO about the program and Autonomous trucks and their future here in Ontario at this point, and have not received a response. But to be honest, it is only Monday, February 26, 2024, so I still have to give them time to answer.
    Now this subject goes a lot deeper than what I have said, and 7 decades before driverless trucks will be on the road... we all know they are here already. I wouldn't give it several decades as I would possibly 7 years to 1 decade.
    Drivers shortage, what happens when a company buys trucks and places them in a yard? They call the media and well the media explodes everything right out of proportion.
