Has DK Oldies Changed? About a year ago I bought a "refurbished" NES from DK Oldies for a review video. I was less than impressed with their "refurbishing" but it's been a year so I decided to give it another try. To make it more of a fair review, I also bought a used PS4 from eBay so I can compare the two.

I think you are giving DK Oldies too much credit. They just cleaned it, but they sent it to you broken, missing screws, and with a broken controller. For 300 dollars, even with a warranty, its flat out unacceptable.
Seriously how hard is it to do a quick test on things before packaging?

I agree that everything from inside and out must be in working conditions. For almost 300 and yet can't give a working console. Honestly, it's not worth buying from a place that has let you down not once but twice.

Oh wow had no idea he had cancer. I thought he looked much different, just thought because he was getting older. What a great story though that he is prevailing and still making videos and providing a service to the gaming community. What a great guy. :) Thank you for the information.

What an embarrassment DK Oldies ☹️
The bar was set pretty low and they still managed to get under it.
And was twice the price of an ebay listing. That just stinks that DK oldies is a scam. You could purchase the other one and either clean it yourself or find a place to clean it and still be ahead of the game compared to DK Scammies.
What a ripoff. 300 bucks for this? It should actually work out of the box for that price. Hell, my local pawn shop will sell me a PS4 for a hundred bucks that they at least test to work in front of me while I watch. It might still need a cleaning or repaste but ordering a box of surprise for top dollar is just ridiculous.
To be fair they had a cross next to the item which indicated it wasn't checked for functionality

I hadn't watched your vids in a while and I was little surprised to see how different you looked in the thumbnail. I was concerned and came across your health update. I was sad to hear you got sick, but I'm really happy to see you're in remission and doing a lot better.
Bad controller, bad laser, bad maintenance, good old trusty DK Oldies. Their slogan should be: "We sell YOU the console, you tell US what's wrong with it"
And for what they're charging...
At $200 it would have been reasonable (if it worked)
$250, sure, if it came with a near new controller (and worked)
But near $300 for something that clearly wasn't even tested? Surely they're taking the piss 🤣

@@YouNameItGaming200$ is way too high for a PS4 no matter what variant it is(unless it's the 500 million PS4 pro which I bought one new at target back in the day and should have never sold it). Nobody cares about destiny and hasn't in years. It's a 150$ console working all day long. And doesn't even have the matching controller. The dkshiddies controller is a counterfeit too. They know what they're doing

@@quiltface83 the start and share buttons are a weird grey color, as well as the triggers. its also likely why the controller wouldn't automatically pair.
@tronicsfix should take another look at the controller, specifically the PCB to determine for sure.
Almost everyone in my family has battled with cancer. Some lost some won. I’m just happy to see you with a smile on your face still and on the path to recovery. I wish you well.
That term "battle" needs to be banned when talking about cancer. It suggests that if only the person had tried more they'd have survived which of course is utter rubbish.

And as I said it gives off the thought that if only the victim had tried harder then they'd have survived. It's a terrible term that denigrates the person suffering. This is for the good of the people who have cancer not thru any crap "freedom!" censorship nonsense. It's about being nice and considerate. Imagine a doctor telling the friends/relatives after the person died "They just didn't battle hard enough"
Hey, I stumbled on your videos probably a year and a half ago and when I did, I binge watched everything you had and have watched every new video when it comes out. I want to say thank you because at 26 years old, your videos made me find my passion. I have taught myself how to solder, troubleshoot, and repair just about anything under the sun because of you. Dude I’ve been watching you for years now you were actually the person who got me into device repairing and how I got a job at sprint (when it was still sprint not T mobile 😅) I never thanked you for all the knowledge I acquired from your videos and how much it changed my life, now I own my own e waste / repair mobile services
I also never charge a parent who brings me a broken iPad or game system letting me know their child is sick and this is the only joy they get throughout the day my way to give back.

@@Tronicsfix Up to this point all of their videos have been outright lies. I wouldn't expect that to change. I warned all my friends between 1 and 2 years ago to NEVER EVER buy anything from that company. They buy stuff cheap from Ebay and other sources, and resell for a much higher cost. They lie about refurbishing, they actually do nothing to them except posisbly wipe down the outside (and sometimes they don't even do that).
The owners don't care about "fixing" things. They only care about making money. They've said as much to the employees that wanted to improve their business, before they quit or were laid off.
I respect you still doing content and being on camera even with what you are going through, stay strong brother

I think this might be the first ever confirmation for a small ad in a video.. I can 100% confirm that the BW-100 works WONDERS.
Back in February, my Halo 5 Elite 2 Controller started having issues. Bumpers stopped working, weird stick drifting/locking, and my A button wasn't firing OR would double fire.
I watched your original Elite 2 repair video, so I bought the BW-100, and the Repair kit you always use.
After an hour of trying to take it apart 😂, I got in and used the BW.. and never had an issue until literally 2 days ago, same issues. So it's time to clean again!! LOL
Honestly guys, the stuff works, and the tool kit is extremely impressive and handy.
Also.. that "Thermal Paste" was sus as hell. 😂😂😂😂😂

@@Tronicsfix I do have a weird issue with my own controllers for my PS4 since I don't use it enough it seems that sometimes I have to let the controller charge all the way back up before it connects since I have 3 and only use my PS4 sparingly these days. Before you send it back or whatever may I suggest at some point just leaving it plugged in and charging to see if that solves that one problem that seems to be regularly seen in all 3 of my PS4 controllers even though I only connected 2 of the 3 to my PS4 only (one I tried using on a emulator so I cannot vouch that that one was only due to lack of charge). Love your vids and glad you are still making them, pulling for ya man!

I think there business model is to promise they got better and then all the youtubers will buy another round of consoles, this is what's keeping the business going, When the youtubers finally stop buying they will go bankrupt.

And if you want a good customer experience the warranty is there for customer peace of mind, NOT a fallback for flipping junk. No one wants to return the console they were waiting for, even if it's free... You paid for a working product, you don't want that hassle.

Goodness gracious! I have kearned SO much by watching your videos. A year ago, I was scared out of my mind to open up a systen (or contrller for that matter) so I could do a proper cleaning. Last week I was able to replace an HDMI port succesfully with no issue. Not only do I appreciate the tutorials (as I call them), but the products you talk about.
Seeing a new video posted and watching it is TRULY a highlight of the day.

Boy, if I was an everyday consumer and purchased an older console in this state for that cost I’d be beyond pissed. I know they have that warranty, but man out of the box that’s such a bummer.

I sold my ps4 pro, CIB, stated barely used and had some light scuffs and wear and test. The lucky buyer actually got a like new console.
Morale of story, nothing wrong with stating item in worse condition than actual. But other way around is a big nono

Great as always, glad your treatment is going well. Regarding the controller, I have found that if they are completely out of battery charge, they may take around 15-20mins to actually let you use it since there is no charge for it to do anything (even plugged in) Strange I know but that is my findings...

came to the comments to also make this suggestion. dual shock 4 with a totally dead battery is very frustrating. let it charge plugged into the ps4 for a while 😊
@@Tronicsfix I believe this to be correct as well - I know when I've broken out old PS4 controllers I haven't used in a long time, they have to charge for a while before you can use them at all, even wired. I don't think it's 15 minutes, but certainly at least 5 minutes or so.
@@rodmunch69 Given the battery is hard wired to it, I doubt they have a true "wired" mode otherwise it'd work if dead. Likely it is in an always wireless mode.
@@amak1131 yes, I just meant wired in terms of getting power - not communication. I know, personally, I've dealt with this more than a few times over the years. They'll completely fail to respond, even with USB attached, and you can't even hit the button about power loss when you start the system - then, after a few minutes, they start to work.

I notice there's a cross in the "Functionality tested" checkbox instead of a tick. If I'm reading that right, it seems they didn't even test it? Which seems like a pretty important thing to miss!
I assumed that just having any sort of mark in the box meant that they had done it but maybe not. Either way, this is a surprising result after they put out a video saying how their process is better.
Maybe it was a different person as it said there were two technicians working on it. and y'know, some people but x's in checkboxes, other people tick them
@@fayelinae you could be right but then again - if they work at that place, probably they have a guideline how they should mark things so something tells me it was not tested, after all
@@den0saur Yeah no, nobody in management ever thinks about little things like that. It is confusing, indeed, but I honestly think it's just two different people making different marks on checkboxes.
@@fayelinae That sounds plausible. A technician may have tested it and put a cross in the box to indicate it wasn't working, only for someone else at a later stage to mistake that for confirming it's been tested and working. It's not an excuse though. Not having a process in place to prevent mistakes like that happening and shipping people broken stuff is in practice just as bad for a supposedly serious business. Plus the controller was broken too, so it's not like it was a one-off.

BadAss Steve says "Clean but broken is still broken". Any buyer can clean but not many can repair. If the product would warrant a return, it fails.

Just because the DK Oldies console is clean, doesn't mean they cleaned it. Previous owner may have cleaned it.

The checklist had two ticks and one cross, the cross was on the functionality box 7:44 suggesting it wasn't tested and it was supposed to be free from stickers 8:16 but there was one on there I think !..cheers.

$313 for an almost 9 year old console is outrageous, especially considering it had issues. Edit: I also just realized that the listing says $249.99 but the email said $289.99. Idk for sure, but the sales tax seems off too.
2nd edit: Yes, it's based on where the buyer lives, it slipped my mind when I made the first edit. Tax still seems off to me, but no idea what was used to come up with 8.1%.
Yes, and for all the issues. But don't forget it's a special edition too, hence the higher price. But yeah, totally ripped off on that one
Sales tax is based on where the buyer is located, not where the seller is located.

Maybe you should play the old three strikes in your out rule. It’s already their second strike.
I disagree, they may have cleaned it in and out but they definable didn’t test or do any work on the console like they said. How do you not test the disc drive should be the second thing you test after making sure it powers on. DK Oldies is a scam and it has been proven the owner doesn’t give a poop about customers only making money.

Just a nit-pick, that first console wasn't sold or refurbished by eBay - it came from a seller ON eBay. There are plenty of honest sellers who use that platform. Having said that, these are two examples of how not to run a business. Sadly I'm experiencing more and more of this lately. Don't know if it's people trying to squeeze out every last cent of a sale in this economy or what.

Didnt trust dk before and i 10000% dont now. They just seem like low life scalpers
BW100 saved my steam deck. The volume up button was stuck making permanent contact. Steam said I was just out of warranty. So I opened it up, BW100'd inside the volume up microswitch and it cleaned it right up.
Better ebay console you give so much credit at dk oldies :/

This is embarassing...
The controller not connecting isn’t necessarily DKO’s fault. It’s a pretty common issue on all PS4 systems. I had it with my controller one time. Also, to reset the controller you have to hold the button down, not just press it. Pressing it only turns it off
I hope you returned the console to the ebay seller and left them negative feedback so people know how crappy of a seller they are so they don't keep scamming people with their false narrative of condition
