  • In this Range Report I get to shoot and review an integrally suppressed semi-auto pistol from SilencerCo. This pistol is the Maxim 9. The name is derived from the inventor of the silencer Hiram Maxim. This is a unique design and is considered to be a high quality firearm even though it did not reach great commercial success. How does this gun perform? Is it quiet? This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this gun. Yours may vary.

    Did you happen to shoot a disassembly/cleaning vid while it was there? Quick, easy, simple maintenance is always a plus.

    147 grain 9mm is quieter, but you probably already knew that.

    If the red dot is not sighted correctly, height over bore, throwing it off, that might lend to inaccuracy. There are some X factors at play.

    Good review, that is an interesting one for sure.👍
    That temp doesn't surprise me at all, one mag dump from a 35 round mag in my Ruger PC Carbine and the barrel is well over 250F, and that is unsuppressed, I try to avoid those 35 rd mag dumps after seeing those temps....

      Wow, that is hot! Heat is one of the things that can damage a gun over time.

    An area gun shop has one of these. I told them when they get their paper work done, I was interested in it. We shall see.

      They are collectible now that they are no longer made.

    i am not an expert but i have always read that it only takes a few inches of barrel to stabilize a bullet. the advantage of a longer barrel with iron sights is the longer sight radius to minimize sighting errors (also of course higher muzzle velocity). i enjoy your videos.

    Yah and most if not all public ranges REQUIRE you to use hearing protection regardless.

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Месяц назад

      Yes they do. Mine does not though, but indoors I always will even suppressed.

    Also, for some reason I'm wondering if those "random lines" on the grip and frame is actually Morse code. I don't know what it might say but that would be pretty cool if it was. It would imagine it reading: "The right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed"

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Месяц назад

      It is not morse code as I can tell. But I can see what you mean and it would be cool if it was.

    @27:13 it looks like your screw is backing out which may be why you were having accuracy issues. See if your accuracy improves without using the dot or remounting the SRO to spec. Also try using 147 grain instead of 124, even though it is integrally suppressed using 124 is going to put you right at 140 db. The Maxim was never the quietest can only being about 130 with subs and still having a high pitch.

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Месяц назад

      You bring up a great point about the pitch. It was pretty high.

    I may be wrong but I don't think 124gr 9mm is considered subsonic. That weight might be on the very edge. I think you need 147gr or above.

    So, it's come to this point. You don't even have to be a firearm manufacturer to put out a plastic, striker fired pistol. 😳

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Месяц назад

      Well, so of the ammo I was using was 115 grain and probably going super sonic. But the inside does reflect much of the sound.

      @@thetexasgunvault seems more like it’s the gun itself, I assume the screws on the red dot are tightened, don’t think you would have missed double checking that, not sure what would cause that. I’d send it to the manufacturer and have them check it out

    Yep, your wife is definitely a better shot than you.😅 I personally think that the gun looks very front heavy and I noticed that a lot of your shots were low. So it seems like when pulling the trigger, you inherently cause the muzzle to dip downwards. This likely can be trained out.
