Still blows me away. The pure joy of such a great trio is timeless. The energy that it take to make you feel the music surge through soul - dare I say genius. Too late I said it. For many of us this is the sound track of our lives. A journey we all took together and we will forever be joined by this force. Our hearts mend our troubled souls and our thoughts are cleansed as we remember why we love this group called Rush! To all of us who still believe in the power of music. I raise a toast to all. To Geddy, Alex and Neil. Thank you all for including us in your journey. Forever in our lives. Cheers!
Those dislikes are from Moronic Minority of America. They listen to EDM and Plastic Pop which is what they play at Jack In The Box and other fast food joints. That music has no soul, no spirit, no funk, blues, rock, no band members who sit down and write great songs based on sometimes heavy subject matter about human nature. I don't think those bands will be remembered ten years from now as the great pioneers of their generation, like Rush. Its disposable as a baby's diaper. But youtube is helping to keep the great bands who we came to know on a personal level, like Rush. They beat huge odds for staying power with Permanent Waves and it just took off like wildfire from that point on. They never compromised and no one ever compromised them. They had total artistic control over their songs and that's one of their secrets to huge success.
A lot of great guitar players agree that the way Alex builds the dynamics and intensity of this solo is amazing! John Petrucci and Kirk Hammett have said so.
Music is gone..Everybody is a lame, middle of the road, internet "star" these days..."Hit" songs are written by 5-6+ "writers".."Producers/Music knotZees" dictate what is acceptable..There is SO MUCH throw away music..Just browse the latest Apple Music MSM (main stream music) ..Communist/socialist ideology has killed creativity, like it always does..
January10th 2020 we found out the greatest and most influential drummer passed away, Mr. Neil Peart, to brain cancer. Being 57 and seeing every show when they came thru Chicago, this is my J.Lennon moment. Was only 17 when he was killed, but was never close to the Beatles as I was to Rush. This song and concert has always been my favorite of theirs and now it will be played for the next 24 hours. As the saying goes, When I heard that he was gone, a felt a shadow cross my heart. Also feel like I have been punched in the gut and can't seem to catch my breath. RIP our Drummer Boy~
I have 30 Rush concerts under my belt. I'm sure that I'm not the only one watching these videos because we still want to see Rush any way we can. Miss you guys and Thanks for everything you did for us fans. We appreciate it more than you will ever know......Curt
Came here to pay last respect to Neil The Professor Peart this was the first song i ever heard by Rush was hooked ever since can not believe he is gone
This Solo is Timeless... Rush is and were always be amazing, talented, funny, down to earth and always Rock and Roll Royalty!!! Thanks for all the amazing records and memories!!!..
I have been a fan of this iconic trio since the early 80's. I had heard this song then, but it has only been recently when I came to count it amongst my favorites. Truly masterpiece of music
before i discovered Rush my two favorite guitarists were David Gilmour and Jimmy Page. Alex is a perfect marriage of the two styles, and now my favorite guitarist.
Toss in Michael Schenker and Jeff Beck. There were a ton of great guitarists in that era. Was into Rush from 2112 on, and got to see them on the Moving Pictures tour. Alex is definitely my favorite.
Thank you Mr. cameraman. You caught one of the most beautiful moments in rock history. In my 39 years as a Rush fan, I have come to accept that not everyone in the world has... or will have the privilege of knowing of this band. I do know that I am one of the lucky ones who do know this trio. Talent beyond words. Thanks boys for the wild ride you gave us. Enjoy your well deserved retirement!
@phu cue To pull it off is crazy, but imagine the brilliance to compose this song. All the time signature changes seamlessly transitioned between. This song is an epic masterpiece. I honestly don't see any musicians being on these guys level ever again. Music academics with perfect execution every damn time. RIP Neil! Glad I got to see them once!
@@canadianroot what's the problem man we are just adding comments and thoughts of this Great band rush I have been following this band more than 42 years so please let us the fans express our fellings we all feel our selves as a family .
This is how I always want to remember one of my all-time favorite bands. At their peak, they were exactly what their name was: Rush. And they were one hell of a rush.
They were a better band in the 90s live, and even 2000s early then here IMO. More experienced and just tighter but their young energy is also different here. Both incredible!
1978,79,80 tours were peak of physical performance, still made the brutal guitar work in the 68-76 pieces core of the show and did theatrical full length epics of Cygnus, la villa and hemispheres plus the new sounds of pwaves
First time I saw this (and Rush) was in August 1979. 😳 😳😳 I was only 16, and I was totally blown away! 🤯 Favorite band ever since. New song then! Already had the album, of course! I’m 61 now, and I’m still cranking it up to 11 !! 😂
Listen to that song at least 2-3 times a week. The 2 main solos beginning and middle of that version seem like an alien on stage. To imagine he's picking every note and still playing that fast is almost beyond comprehension. Without question, one of the greatest single rock guitar songs of all time.
I actually liked the live version recorded on exit stage left but I laugh when I watch 2011 time machine version. Then I sit in awe with my chin in my hands like the kid I was 30 years ago listening to my brother play this on his huge drumset watching him with wide eye and wonder from his top bunk bed. Good times. I’m a drummer because of moments like these and music like this. RIP Neil the greatest
We were all anticipating the release of this album back then and we couldn't wait to hear what they were coming out with next. I'll never forget that day when my older friend who had the turntable with that diamond needle, bought the album and rushed home, pardon the pun, and put it on. I was fifteen then and my older friend broke out a big-ass bowl and we're sitting there listening to side "A", and blown away by the end. That is what was so amazing about Rush, the had me and my friends, the few I had at the time, totally blown away and wondering how they could top the latest recording, and they would astound us and come up with something just totally mind bending. Those were the golden years that had us so into Rush, especially as a musician or like me, a drummer. Those were good ole days!
Good point man. Think about it, each of them played multiple parts at the same time and multi-tasked! A drummer writing lyrics which yes I know isn't done on stage during a concert but he still played a ton of different styles, while keeping within the confines of the songs never stepping on the rest of the band. Geddy sang and played both keys, and Bass, Alex well Lead and Rhythm.
No band, ever, has weaved odd-time signatures in and around themselves and 4/4 as seamlessly as these 3 and made is so completely beautiful to the ear. It's utterly brilliant, and they did it for more than 40 years, oh and also, they are... the greatest band... that has ever walked this Earth. There, I said it.
What is Pinkpop!?!? Saw Rush at Comiskey Park in Chicago 1978 or 9. Did Pinkpop just video parts of awesome songs?!? Where is the rest of this concert!!!!!!!!!!!
@@paulvalentine3440 Pinkpop is one of the oldest and long term festivals in the Netherlands even in the world I think. It’s a three days festival normally during Whitsun. ’79 was a very good festival with Rush and just start-up bands like the Police, Dire Straits and Elvis Costello, Peter Tosh, I don’t know who recorded this. Maybe you should ask “working man” who uploaded the clip.
This isn't just some band. Not to me. Every single day. I wake up with these 3 in my head. Inspiring me every minute to get better, to keep working, to someday hopefully be considered even close to them. If these guys have taught me anything, it's to be different. They've worked hard, been innovative, done it the right way. They deserve so much more than they've had. That solo Al shreds no matter what age is one of my biggest inspirations. Everything this band does. But this song. Not only the fact that it's killer, but to see how far they all got. Even at that young age. It's possible. Whether you're a musician or not. Take a listen to this track and think of how challenging it was. Especially at that age. This band almost didn't make it after Caress Of Steel, their songs were too long, like the Necromancer and the Fountain Of Lamneth. But they released 2112. That 20 minute epic was their response to the people who wanted to change them. Anything's possible. And Rush proved that.
+shane campbell Not true. Alex and Geddy were friends growing up. They held auditions for a drummer after Rutsy left and Neil was chosen. It didn't have to do with a record company really.
+C Fong I cant agree more. What a great coincidence. Perfect blending. The fact I can only listen to RUSH and sometimes YES, makes that plain. Music for the intelligent that can get past the fact that you have to listen 3-4 times before you get it. Then its great forever.
+C Fong Geddy's parents survived the concentratin camps.....I have thought before....if they would not have survived there would be no Geddy and therefore no RUSH
OMFG! After seeing RUSH (26 times on so many planets lol) and following these guys for 40 years, and read Neil Pearts books I have never seen this video. WOW! Thank you!
Was there as a 13-14-year old .... completely blasted away ... what a wall of amazing sound these three guys produced ... first encounter with RUSH and I will never forget ... still thrilled by the old cassette as the concert was broadcasted some time later on national radio.... What a gem!
Ryan Laney some people think alex is not as good as neil or geddy therefore they think he is the inferior player in the band, which I dont think is the case..
Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt! The dynamo and synergy of Rush through the years profoundly enriched and changed music. Their courage and integrity inspired musicians and fans worldwide despite the misunderstanding critics. Whether liked or not by many, Rush's prowess and integrity on the world stage of music is indisputable with legions of respect and admiration. For hardcore fans such as myself (42 Rush concerts attended), the feelings beyond words are still ineffable. RIP Neil
For me the greatest guitar player that walked the earth. He can crunch any killer solos and play the most heartfelt tender piece, often in the same song. We were blessed that fate brought those three unearthly musicians together!!! Just incredible.
I have always loved this band!!! Was very fortunate to see them in concert touring after the release of 2112!!! Still the best band I've ever seen in concert!!! ( have seen many concerts from Aerosmith to ZZ Top). This video is amazing!!! It's difficult to put into words!!! Rush fan for life!!!!
I may have commented before , I'm not sure, I keep coming back here, I am addicted to this solo, it is the greatest one I have ever herd , out of all of the versions they do , this is my fav , I think it's the sound of the guitar and the sound system back in 1979 . Nov / 7 / 2019. Love this. see ya next week RUSH..
I saw this tour in 1979 in Los Angeles. It was the first time I saw them. That concert was unlike anything I have ever seen, before, or since, or ever will. The greatest band on earth, 3 virtuosos, at the height of their (most daring) mastery - Hemispheres. And it all sounded better live than the album (remember, 1979, no cd's). It was surreal. It was musical perfection.
Thank You, WorkingMan. I can't believe this video actually exists! I was 16 at the time, when my high school friends took me to my first shows. Performances like this became permanently wired into my brain. Going to see Rush to me and my crew was like what Catholics must feel when having an audience with the Pope. I watch this and get goosebumps and all choked up.
That is absolutely amazing with what happened to his finger and watching him play like that he had to be in tremendous pain but flawlessly did that solo .
All the while on an ES-335, with fairly high string action from the fretboard. Pretty hard to pull off, especially back then when there where not so many shredding teachers. He was a pioneer in his own right. Very creative. 3rd in the Guitar World Readers poll of 100 greatest guitarists. 98th in Rolling Stones opinion.
Troy Lundgren Actualy this is not the 345, his 345 was Black, this one isnt even the actualy ES-335 he used, after his 335 had an accident when the neck came off, he took the es 335 body and he put a new neck with those fretmarks like a 345 and he put gold hardware, and that's the story :)
Edi Ademi That's a new 345, not a reworked 335. Alex bought the guitar at the Gibson factory as a backup to the white 355. He only used it for short time, before giving it to a roadie.
I've never heard a band perform a song live and sound so nearly identical to the studio version. few bands could do what rush does every concert. True talented musicians.
No other band records they're albums as a single take live in studio performance with no extra tracks of themselves laid into multilayered soundscapes by armies of tech wizards either! But Journey and Kansas were Equal in that regard at that time as was Heart once they paired down to the good members.
Once Alex' parents told him to catch a normal job in order to earn his living but he said: "I only want to play music". Thank you for all these masterpieces!!!!
I will miss you Neil.....thank you for your writing and thank you Rush for the music and memories of live shows...10 for me down here in Houston Tx...the old Summit,Woodlands arena and Toyota Center.
I started off wanting to play these drums - I couldn'tI thought I might be able to play the guitar part - I couldn'tI then thought I might be able to play the bass - no way.The only thing I can do is admire this awesome performance and thank them for opening my eyes.
Been playing drums for forty odd years and have pretty much reached the same conclusion. It's brutal stufff. Now I have a burning question: WHERE IS THE REST OF THIS CONCERT????
I am now 60 years old, and I count myself very fortunate to have seen Rush live in concert at the Seattle Center Coliseum in 1978 for their Hemispheres Tour. Pat Travers opened the show. I was 14.
I CANNOT BELIEVE I DID NOT APPRECIATE THIS SONG BACK IN THE LATE 70S WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS ----------- THIS GROUP JAMS AND I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH!! WE MISS NEIL SO MUCH.
the more I watch Lifeson...the more I do not understand why his name isn't atop the lists..there is no one more versatile and excellent at every facet of that versatility .. .incredibly gifted and successfully experimental.. This band 6 hands 6 feet. 60 digits ...that have created a body of work that is uniquely RUSH . to think it's actually over in terms of live gigs....makes me feel all kinds of emotion.. we took album...tour ....album...tour...album...tour..for granted for so long. we had no idea how lucky we were
I'm so glad I dated a boy in highschool that was a huge Rush fan. He took me to see them and I was hooked. Saw them on my own four more times later on. And got two of my friends into them. Absolutely brilliant band!!
I can't think of too many guitarists who can play at that velocity with a damaged finger. Watch his pinky on the ascending fast runs in the solo, it darts out like a worm out of an underground burrow, nailing the correct note and the right position and quickly reversing direction. It's fascinatingly creepy. What a great player. Well, all of them are. This is a great document of them at the height of their powers as live players.
The phonetic timing these three have or had, Niel, your the best, is unmatched by almost any band ever. It and their talent for music is why they make your heart feel really good. They really are one of the best bands this planet has ever seen and I thank God I was tossed into the time frame they were here.
An american there for 5 yrs going to every Pink Pop but MISSED this one as I had to return to the U.S. One of their best songs if not the best !! I would have wet my britches seeing them!!
The sound of Geddys Ricky wow, why he ever used anything else is beyond me, how can you not love Alex Lifeson, there's no one like him, Neil Geddy and Alex, 3 masters who touched the lives of millions for over 40 years, thanks guys you'll be loved and remembered forever!!!
Yeah, he has played Fenders for far more time than he played Ricks in concert. But since he was playing Rick's when I discovered Rush, I've never really accepted the Fenders.
I saw them about 10 times. Their music is a part of my life. I am trying to think of what to say as I listen to this song for about the thousandth time……I have no words here! RIP Neil
I wish I could go back to that kid in the late 80s hearing this album for the first time and spending summers just lying on the bed listening to this song over and over again.
OMFG I never get tired of watching this performance. Ever time I watch it Alex's solo always gives me goosebumps. I'm 59 and still jam like it's the first time I've heard them.
That's the thing, they created, from scratch, complex pieces that they just thought were trippy but no one could repeat or follow because they were too hard. That goes to show their raw talent and ability. People play their stuff nowadays to showcase their talent, but it was these guys that put it all together in the first place.

Don't think his peers underrated him
I've heard it said that he is not a strong technical guitarist?! Obviously spoken by someone who can only hear drums.
I'll include Reid, Roth, and Chaquico.

To Geddy, Alex and Neil. Thank you all for including us in your journey. Forever in our lives. Cheers!
120 people disliked this. At minimum there are 120 people on the planet with bad taste
The ones who dislike it are rappers, I guess 😂 or tone deaf. Or simply musically inept
yes ! look at what they call music today
120 people should be dropped on their heads
RUSH is "thinking man's music"....so need I say more...
Alex lifeson and Steve Howe are the two most underrated guitarists in Rock and Roll history.
toss in Elliot Easton and Lindsay Buckingham... i'm sure there are a cpl dozen more.....
Who the fuck is doing all this “rating”?
Alex Lifson e Trevor Rabin ..the best
@@RaptorV1USA Easton's a badass- he absolutely amazes me now when I hear Cars songs ....
The stuff the guy comes up with he's a f****** ringer!! 💪👊👊💪🌟
YES IM IN COMPLETE AGREEMENT . STEVE HOWE IS A GUITAR GOD AS WELL
i love the solo in this song, it's so freakin' amazing! i love how it goes from kind of soft to a little louder
Amazing!
A lot of great guitar players agree that the way Alex builds the dynamics and intensity of this solo is amazing! John Petrucci and Kirk Hammett have said so.
and to think he played that solo with a bummed finger O.o
An Ulcerated Cyeatopolis
When Gods walked the earth
The best bassist, the best drummer, one of the best rhythm guitarist of all time. We will never see the likes of them again.
He was shredding before shredding was a thing
fucking truth
I tried to type out a coherent comment but could not. I will just piggy back. "when gods walked the earth'.
Desperate and truly awful news today - tears in my eyes as I write this
Neil Peart has died
RIP My musical hero
Sucks...Bad 😥
paul elliott he was truly one of a kind. Just like each of his mates.
One of the greatest bands EVER....
No. They are the greatest band ever.
“One of”....good joke.
Best from North America ever............Aerosmith #2.
The greatest.
I have 30 Rush concerts under my belt. I'm sure that I'm not the only one watching these videos because we still want to see Rush any way we can. Miss you guys and Thanks for everything you did for us fans. We appreciate it more than you will ever know......Curt

@@tommygoldrick8685 you have that right!!!.I am listening to The Garden live clockwork angels tour and I am crying
Me Me same here dude; heard this when I was 14 and was hooked.
Three masters at work. Even though Geddy's voice struggles now, their music is still just as good as it was 40 years ago. Rush rocks!
La Villa Strangiato > Stairway To Heaven. Who needs lyrics when it's this good.
I love your attitude!!!! And your taste!
I guess Stairway To Heaven. Because it has lyrics
stairway to where, nowhere.
With the advantage of not being plagiarism
Truth!!!!
This Solo is Timeless...
Rush is and were always be amazing, talented, funny, down to earth and always Rock and Roll Royalty!!!
Thanks for all the amazing records and memories!!!..
Really no words for how amazing this song is. I sometimes listen to it over 10 times a day. Just wow.
OctaneTwisted it gets better each time (how is it possible?)
I have been a fan of this iconic trio since the early 80's. I had heard this song then, but it has only been recently when I came to count it amongst my favorites. Truly masterpiece of music
God, I love Alex. It's a toss-up between him and Gilmour as my all-time favorite guitarists.
before i discovered Rush my two favorite guitarists were David Gilmour and Jimmy Page. Alex is a perfect marriage of the two styles, and now my favorite guitarist.
Add Brian May and Randy Rhodes and you have my all time favourites along with Alex and Gilmour
As much as I love David and all the others mentioned here in the above comment, we can’t shun Blackmore and Iommi from the list of greatest.
Toss in Michael Schenker and Jeff Beck. There were a ton of great guitarists in that era. Was into Rush from 2112 on, and got to see them on the Moving Pictures tour. Alex is definitely my favorite.
Alex is funny and has no ego.
The cameraman fucking sucks lol what are you om
Disagree, what about the professor hardly any of him
In some parts of this song and many other rush songs live it sounds like 6 musicians playing when in fact it's only 3, now that's amazing.
Who’s here after Neil died 😓😭
Can't believe he's gone :(
@phu cue To pull it off is crazy, but imagine the brilliance to compose this song. All the time signature changes seamlessly transitioned between. This song is an epic masterpiece. I honestly don't see any musicians being on these guys level ever again. Music academics with perfect execution every damn time. RIP Neil! Glad I got to see them once!
I am here and will keep on listening the best progressive rock band music Rush every day music is timeless.
Enough with that stupid “who’s here” meme.
@@canadianroot what's the problem man we are just adding comments and thoughts of this Great band rush I have been following this band more than 42 years so please let us the fans express our fellings we all feel our selves as a family .
Alex.. shows here.. he is a awesome guitarist!!!!!!!. Totally underrated.....
Hes rated quite high. mentioned in many of the "top" lists.
Alex Lifeson is on fire!
INDEED. He's a happy man. UNREAL Just askin randomly but WHERE IS THE REST OF THIS CONCERT????
This is how I always want to remember one of my all-time favorite bands. At their peak, they were exactly what their name was: Rush. And they were one hell of a rush.
They were a better band in the 90s live, and even 2000s early then here IMO. More experienced and just tighter but their young energy is also different here. Both incredible!
There is no substitute for youth
1978,79,80 tours were peak of physical performance, still made the brutal guitar work in the 68-76 pieces core of the show and did theatrical full length epics of Cygnus, la villa and hemispheres plus the new sounds of pwaves
I remember the first time I heard this song!! Are you kidding me,!?? Timeless classic!! Always will be! Flat out!!!
First time I saw this (and Rush) was in August 1979. 😳 😳😳 I was only 16, and I was totally blown away! 🤯 Favorite band ever since. New song then! Already had the album, of course! I’m 61 now, and I’m still cranking it up to 11 !! 😂
The Police were on the same bill that day, at the PinkPop Fest.. Andy Summer's must have been running for cover after this Masterpiece.
The Police had nothing to envy Rush. Both very unique, 3 piece format
They complimented each other, but you have to hand Rush respect for throwing it down HARD.
two of my three favorite drummers on stage that day. Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart. Bill Bruford is the third in case you’re wondering…
And dire straits
@@jem5040 ..no i wasn't
The live version of La Villa Strangiato on Exit Stage Left is my favorite guitar song of all time. Alex Lifeson is the best.
The version from Rush in Rio is weirder and better.
Ah yes
What's amazing is that on exit stage left the guitar solo on La Villa Strangiato is improved!
I suffer from Tinnitus in my ears from blasting this and all other Rush songs directly into my head. WORTH IT!!!!
excuse me while i play lead and rhythm at the same time... a
Good one, and so true!
With a fucked finger nail.
@Babis Tse wrong person
It's 2 Alex and Lerxt
Good point man. Think about it, each of them played multiple parts at the same time and multi-tasked! A drummer writing lyrics which yes I know isn't done on stage during a concert but he still played a ton of different styles, while keeping within the confines of the songs never stepping on the rest of the band. Geddy sang and played both keys, and Bass, Alex well Lead and Rhythm.
this video is my "happy place", where anytime I come back...
ditto
My happy place is David Bowie and Annie Lennox's Under Pressure :)

what does video quality have to do with audio quality
No band, ever, has weaved odd-time signatures in and around themselves and 4/4 as seamlessly as these 3 and made is so completely beautiful to the ear. It's utterly brilliant, and they did it for more than 40 years, oh and also, they are... the greatest band... that has ever walked this Earth.
There, I said it.
Rush are Time Travellers!
Legendary. I was there. 16 years old. My first Pinkpop
Maybe you should ask “working man” who uploaded the clip.
you lucky bastige!
Me to
This isn't just some band.
Ah, this is a very lovely comment! Peace, Love and Rush!✌💖
Beautiful hells yeah!!! We need to FIND THE REST OF THIS CONCERT!!!
A rock music master class! The music world were very lucky these three found each other, amazing.
C Fong word!
C Fong they didn't really find each other the record company more or else put them together by adding Neil
+C Fong Geddy's parents survived the concentratin camps.....I have thought before....if they would not have survived there would be no Geddy and therefore no RUSH
this might be the greatest guitar solo in any song ever. This or comfortably numb imo.
+Ian Cropley you right but hes not the best but solo fantasic you right stefaN
Or Highway Star guitar solo
ALEX is way better than Gilmour.
So many great solos. But this is a delicious one. I like Hendrix’s work in All Along the Watchtower. And Comfortably Numb.
What the fuck is with everyone's obsession with Comfortably Numb?! Don't come at me with that weak shit while Alex is putting on this clinic!!!
Definitely the best live guitar version of Strangiato on the net, totally awesome guitar sound! ✌🏼🎵❤️🔥
RIP to one of the greatest drummers ever. Neil Peart
THE greatest drummer EVER!!!!!!!!!
OMFG! After seeing RUSH (26 times on so many planets lol) and following these guys for 40 years, and read Neil Pearts books I have never seen this video. WOW! Thank you!
unreal guitar solo
Good lord they are incredible!
Was there as a 13-14-year old .... completely blasted away ... what a wall of amazing sound these three guys produced ... first encounter with RUSH and I will never forget ... still thrilled by the old cassette as the concert was broadcasted some time later on national radio.... What a gem!
Alex Lifeson is one of the best rock guitar players ever..! one of the best guitar solos ever !
But unfortunately overlooked by many
Ryan Laney many who don´t know shit about music and playing an instrument.
lifeson is so underrated
Ryan Laney some people think alex is not as good as neil or geddy therefore they think he is the inferior player in the band, which I dont think is the case..
Ryan Laney I dont compare them, I see geddy, alex and neil for their greatness as individual players, as well as a group.
210 people who have never drunk the milk of paradise
I get a keg full constantly
Probably never broke their fast on honeydew either.
only 18 more people joined the society of stupidity since your comment. just maybe there might be hope for mankind,
I have always loved this band!!!
The ‘Exit Stage Left’ version of this song has my favorite version of this solo! Absolutely incredible!
Rolling Stone is bias and base their ratings off of popularity, not talent.
Gibson ES-345 (note fret markers and varitone switch )
Troy Lundgren Actualy this is not the 345, his 345 was Black, this one isnt even the actualy ES-335 he used, after his 335 had an accident when the neck came off, he took the es 335 body and he put a new neck with those fretmarks like a 345 and he put gold hardware, and that's the story :)
Edi Ademi That's a new 345, not a reworked 335. Alex bought the guitar at the Gibson factory as a backup to the white 355. He only used it for short time, before giving it to a roadie.
I believe he gave the black 345 to one of their roadie as a birthday present
This is so god dammed epic, I have watched/listened to this magic 1000 times, and it still grabs me.
Amazing. Little did they know how successful they’d be in the coming years. What a great band.
It's been 3 weeks and I still can't believe he's gone ....
That's a lot of music for three guys...
Never get tired of watching this video!! The energy and passion for their music is so very evident. Love Rush!!
This performance never gets old.
This whole thing bristles with energy! They are peaking right here as far as expression goes. Freaking badass!
I will miss you Neil.....thank you for your writing and thank you Rush for the music and memories of live shows...10 for me down here in Houston Tx...the old Summit,Woodlands arena and Toyota Center.
Rip Neal peart thanks for all, your music changes my life 😥😥😭😭😭😭😭
I started off wanting to play these drums - I couldn'tI thought I might be able to play the guitar part - I couldn'tI then thought I might be able to play the bass - no way.The only thing I can do is admire this awesome performance and thank them for opening my eyes.
I was 14.
looks like Geddy is behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon, love this old footage when they pretty much brought the studio out to live shows.
I CANNOT BELIEVE I DID NOT APPRECIATE THIS SONG BACK IN THE LATE 70S WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS ----------- THIS GROUP JAMS AND I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH!! WE MISS NEIL SO MUCH.
they must have slept with their guitar, bass, and drums.
the more I watch Lifeson...the more I do not understand why his name isn't atop the lists..there is no one more versatile and excellent at every facet of that versatility ..
.incredibly gifted and successfully experimental..
This band
6 hands 6 feet.
60 digits ...that have created a body of work that is uniquely RUSH .
to think it's actually over in terms of live gigs....makes me feel all kinds of emotion..
we took album...tour ....album...tour...album...tour..for granted for so long.
we had no idea how lucky we were
Alex is the best guitarist in the world period!!!!

+juan delbosque Yes...Alex Lifeson and Vini Reilly...the two greatest.
+juan delbosque Ever heard of Allan Holdsworth?
musical greatness personified
RIP Neil Peart this is one of my favorite RUSH songs besides YYZ
RIP Neil
Absolutely amazing musical performance by all members and live no less. Hope that Neil is finding this kind of magic in heaven.
in a viewpoint of dynamics and emotion, the live version has something special
I think that thrill and euphoria of alex was on another planet
I wish I could go back to that kid in the late 80s hearing this album for the first time and spending summers just lying on the bed listening to this song over and over again.
Lifeson has never received the props he deserves, fkn monster!
now this is fuckin music AND talent
OMFG I never get tired of watching this performance. Ever time I watch it Alex's solo always gives me goosebumps. I'm 59 and still jam like it's the first time I've heard them.
That's the thing, they created, from scratch, complex pieces that they just thought were trippy but no one could repeat or follow because they were too hard. That goes to show their raw talent and ability. People play their stuff nowadays to showcase their talent, but it was these guys that put it all together in the first place.
The good doctor of the drum kit has finally retired.
