    When I was a little girl I read constantly. I also used to draw, type my own short stories, sew and dye my own dolls and create a narrative of my own to play with them. I even learned how to play the piano, which I did until I was a teenager.
    From time to time I remember that girl with love and wonder what became of her.

      We never lose our ‘inner child!’ You can bring her out anytime you choose; We, too often, allow society to make us put our inner child in a locked birdcage always dying to sing her song -which is why it’s very important to have our own personal space & time to let her out to play & explore! ;)

    One of my happy habits is going to the beach. Whether I go by myself or with others, it is such therapy.

      Agreed! Generally being in nature is mentally calming. For me it's forests, especially ones with pine trees, they make a special sound in the wind like no other tree. 🤗

      Maria Ve Good luck to you Maria. I am a two time breast cancer conquerer and living a very healthy life. I have faith that things will turn out the same for you. I know it’s scary. Journaling really helped me during that time. I also wrote a letter to cancer saying how much I hated it, how it picked the wrong person to mess with cuz I’m very strong and I was going to fight it with all I had. Friends, family, and even some strangers were a great support. Some women want to keep their diagnosis private, but I felt that the more people that knew what I was going through, the more well wishes and support I wouldn’t get.

    I will tell you, I get my best smile on my face and I keep it there all day. If something is funny, I laugh raucously. People respond to a smile or happy laughter. I can turn someone from grouch to fun in one minute. I love that experiment. Smiling is a choice. I choose it.

    If I may, I would add one more “happiness habit”: do something for someone else, purposely, and with no strings attached.

      This is a time more than ever when we need to reach out to others and extend care, hope, love, courage, and kindness all around. I, too, would love to see some of your work published, maybe even create a health and wellness journal with some of your own inspiring words or words/scripture that have inspired you!

      I love to buy the person’s order behind me or ahead of me in the coffee drive thru line. The waves from strangers that I get starts my day off with a smile!☕️☕️☕️

    I’ve learned throughout the years that we’re all here for a purpose. Having Jesus in my life and able to serve others it’s a blessing. I don’t take anything for granted, life is too short. Love your habits!

    Agree with so many of these habits. There is a word that is encapsulated in this scripture "I know what it is to be in need,& I know what is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any & every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Jesus Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4.12-13
    In the west we really have overall a very blessed existence & it is all to easy to think that we should have perpetual "happiness" being content is far more precious & something we are continuously learn over our lifetime. Having come through ( not quite yet but on my way ) severe Depression in the last few years I have clung to Christ for strength throughout this darkness through days & wakeful distressing nights.
    As wonderful as happiness is, times of difficulty shape our character & strengthen our Faith. Thank You Dominique for your encouragement to this community & I pray you are lifted up as well, as much as you lift others. Becoming Bolder & knowing I am Blessed no matter the circumstance. Mercy, Peace & Love be yours in abundance. Jude 1.2

    I have been unhappy for several years, taking care of convelesent mom, emptiness syndrome, crappy job, and I am single. Recently mom's in a nursing home, estate sale happening in November, new make up tips from Dominique, and I have been applying for dozens of jobs. Three interviews so far but no offer. I'm ready to move and reinvent myself. No more miserable me. Dominique you are an inspiration and someone I can aspire to be. I certainly didn't have the nice mom as you, but I can start over at 56. I do have a BA and lots of past experience and a strong motivation to get out of this hole I am in. Thank you 😊

    Today I sat on a bench at the duck pond - it was lovely just watching the ducks with their babies. It made me happy. I smiled at strangers who passed and they said hello back! It was a good day today! Enjoy your weekend and thank you for sharing!❤

      My hero. I love animals and I too care so deeply for them as they cannot stand up for themselves and humans tend to abuse them in factory farm settings and other food and fur reasons.

    I was diagnosed in May with a very rare and thankfully very treatable cancer, I have learnt so very much, Health really matters, love and kindness really matters, being positive and finding the joy in the simple things really matters. My spiritual side and my relationship with God really matters. Other things really don’t! Loosing my hair was tough at first, but now I feel liberated, as it begins to grow back I’m finding that a new woman is emerging, still strong but kinder, still chatty but now also an accomplished listener, still happy but now so much more grateful for everything. As I head to the next stage of treatment I know it will be tough but I also know I’m never alone, for that I feel truly blessed. From adversity comes enlightenment, if we are able to look around us with an open heart and an open mind. Take care and stay safe xx

    Love this. Face time with my grand children, my garden, being grateful for all the things in my life., reading, having a clean house, having a walk in nature, great music, a great love story, comedy, the beach, sunrises, sunsets, photos of family and friends, road trips. Feeling very fortunate and happy.

    Today, after school my 13year old son had emotional break down, we both cried. The sadness in his young eyes was heartbreaking. We needed some kind of direction or guidance and your video was spot on. We both watched your video and it lifted our spirits. Thank you

      Gosia B Hope is son feels better. It’s so hard for us adults, I can’t imagine how children feel. My son turned 18, but still, it’s such an unknown future. At 13, on the brink of adolescence, peers are important and they can’t really «hang out »! He’s lucky to be able to confide in you and that you don’t hide your feelings. Love to you both❤️

      I pray for our children every day. It's hard enough being young in today's technological world, and now factor in the changes Covid brings, and it's just so unenjoyable for them. They need all the uplifting we can give them.

    You have hit the nail on the head on all points. I needed to go church on Sunday. It's what my husband and I share. We are finally returning to indoor mass. Creativity is what I crave. I have been so much more creative since March because I don't have outside distractions. Laughter is the frosting on the cake. My 5 yr old grandson is our joy. He was struggling with being pretty much an only child since his baby sister is way to young to play. By exploring his backyard he found that a little girl lives behind them by peeking through the crack in the fence. She drove her little pink car to the fence and he drove his little jeep. They started talking when her Chihuahua crawled under the fence to his yard and he sent it back to her. Then they threw sticks back and forth over the fence. Then my grandson asked her if she could throw her Chihuahua over the fence! Well she thought that was pretty funny but couldn't pick him up. He said they laughed about that. We laughed hearing him tell the story. Oh the little boy.

    I'm most happy when I can bring joy to others through my cooking, watching a smile on someone's face as they're eating something I've made for them. The sunset, nature, birding and my cat bring me joy. A family member is going through a difficult time. I talk and listen to them and try to get their mind off their troubles! After our conversation they are hopeful again, for a little while! Thank you for all you do!! 💗

    Thank you! This has been such a challenge, I am almost 60 and never in my life have I ever imagine such a year. I had many conversations with my Grandmother that was 7 during the Spanish Flu, yet never imagined in my life time. I honestly had struggles in the beginning and nightmares, my waking mind could rationalize it, but not my sleeping mind. I did contact my doctor and being a love of walking took to the pavement. It took sometime, but I worked through it and have started projects shelved for years. I made a plan for winter. I know we have a long way to go. My Grandmother’s conversations now bring me strength as she was oh so wise. Your talks give me hope also that, I am far from alone in this. Thank you always for your wisdom and positive spirit! ❤️😘🙏

    Thank you for your encouraging words and thoughts. The first thing I do in the morning (after getting my coffee) is to have a conversation with God. Thanking him for yet another opportunity to make someone else's life better and enhancing my own spirit. Next, is to set my intentions for the day. At the end of the day, I do a mental win/loss synopsis to see the things I did very well and area I could have done better.

    Been dealing with depression because of the state of the country and having health problems. I feel. Like life will never be normal and the hatred will never end. My Bible and praying are what help me and you are also very soothing to listen too so thank you 🙏

      Praying that God will give you peace. I listen a lot to worship music and it helps lift up my spirits. One of my favorite songs is by Jason Gray called Sparrows.

      I suggest stayIng away from the news and social media especially sites like Twitter which are so toxic. Just as we choose whether to eat junk or healthy food to nourish our bodies, we also choose what we read, hear, or watch. Seek God and listen to peaceful and joyful music! I feel so much better when I start the day in prayer, reading the Bible, reading devotions, etc. and then going out to exercise. Remember Philippians 4:8! Disconnect from the world and it’s worries and connect with the peace that only God gives! Best wishes! 🙏🙏🙏❤️

    The biggest ingredient to happiness is GRATITUDE. My husband and I have bonded through gratitude (fantastic beautiful conversations) and the other bonds follow in full.

    Dominique, I really enjoy your channel! Regarding prayer, what really helps me to get out of my own head is to pray for others: The stranger walking down the side of the street carrying groceries, the neighbor you don't know but it's obvious she's a single mom, person with a vehicle broke down on the side of the road, etc. It's wonderful to know that we have the power to improve somebody's life, even at a distance. It also brings to mind that probably many times along this path in life others have randomly prayed for me. God bless 🕇💖

    Wonderful tips Dominique!.... Yes, this year sure has brought with it more anxiety than we are all used to! I have found, putting on my apron, some wonderful music, and cooking (trying different ways to season dishes) has occupied my mind in a wonderful, positive way... I also have just moved to a home with a very neglected back yard, so we are busy transforming that with gardens. I would LOVE to hear your tips on how to create a meaningful, family Thanksgiving and Christmas with the very real possibility that many of our family members ( out of state) will not be traveling this year. I thank you again for your insight and your time helping us navigate through our lives!

    It’s like you knew exactly what I needed Dominique!
    I’ve always been a positive, glass half full, loving life, kind of person and then Covid hit and I had to work from home which I found extremely challenging. My husband is still going into the office each day. And then in July I experienced my first real loss at 56 years old. My best friend of over 35 years lost her battle with cancer and I miss her terribly. And now our beautiful golden retriever Tundra is sick - cancer and he’s going downhill. He’s 12 and he’s our family. 😢
    I’ve really been struggling. This past week I’ve started focusing on my yoga and fitness again and healthy eating, trying to spend a lot of time with my kids and grandkids and friends, starting each day with a page from “Jesus is Calling “ daily devotional as well as my “message from the Universe” ( highly recommend everyone to sign up for that- I’ve been getting for over 10 years every morning - it’s free and it’s fabulous!)
    I’m just trying to get back to “me” - it may take awhile but I will get there with messages like yours to help and guide - thank you SO much for taking the time to share🙏❤️💕

    What a great topic and the 8 suggestions were spot on. My life has had many challenges, relocated to Nashville after living in Ohio for 40 years. Hospitalized for vestibular disease in February , COVID hit in March, working remotely feeling isolated. Thank God for my Yorkie, who requires movement, utube videos (like this one), yoga and other ways to relax, laughter with a comedy or good book, music gets me movin and groovin. I’m 57 and learning how to make myself a priority. #1 spiritual connection, the peace and love we are seeking is found with God. 🥰🙏🏽. Stay Bold and Beautiful

    A sense of purpose in life is the best way to beat depression. It helped me with my depression and anxiety. I love Dominique!! She is a beautiful woman and amazing!! I watch her on KPRC, Channel 2 news, everyday in Houston. I love her on the news. She is wonderful!!     I start each day as soon as I wake up and thank God for another day in my life and then I name 10 things I am grateful for before I get out of bed. This sets the tone for the day and is a reminder of how blessed I am. Also, I have found that my greatest peace and happiness come from spending time with God by daily Bible study and writing in my journal. Also, spending time with my family. My family brings me so much happiness and just simply talking, taking a walk and enjoying a nice meal together is the best. Thank you Dominique for this video. I asked if they knew you... lol.. not really thinking that there would be a yes, Houston is a big city. However... One of the Owners said Yes. I know her... In fact, we built her first home... WOW... I told them that I followed you on SM and RUclips and asked the question... "Is she really as Nice, Classy, Warm and Kindhearted as she appears to be on Social Media and Video.?" Without Hesitation... OH YES... He said she really is all that. She is a terrific Lady. Well... I was not surprised.     It's so hard calm the constant worry and sadness I feel inside right now. We have horrific fires going on here in northern California, with smoke that makes the air unbreathable. I know eight people who have lost their homes in the past two years. We are also in a very vulnerable area, ready to evacuate at any minute. Thank you for your videos. I don't pray these days, but I am spiritual. Talking about purpose helps me a lot. Making my videos has helped me feel more pro-active these days. And yes, laughter is "gold!"

    The intro is back! I am a gardener, and recently purchased a Cricut and have created some fun things for friends and family. I am not that crafter girl... and have found an outlet that I enjoy making something! My faith is my rock! I think a good night's sleep is so important, but also sabbath-ing oneself from "stuff" - a day to just relax, read, turn off the phone... get outside and enjoy the beautiful creation! Being with my friends and family is tonic for my soul. We are intentional about "Sunday Suppers" and Covid brought a speed bump for a while, but we have been able to incorporate those with a few people these last few months! Truly what I have found as I have gotten older, Happiness is circumstantial or situational. But I can have JOY even in the down times. I can be happy or unhappy, but I cannot be "unjoyed"

    I love your videos. I ended up watching this one several times and took notes. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness 2 years ago and my life has dramatically changed in all ways. I was a vibrant professional working in the mental health field for 25 years. It was my profession, my passion, and my purpose. I can no longer work due to my illness and have lost my sense of identity. I am blessed with a supportive husband of 31 years and a wonderful 22 year old daughter. Getting well is my purpose now and they love and support and care for me. When I first watched this video I thought “Easy for you to be happy, you are beautiful and appear to have a fantastic life” then I realized no, we all have something we battle. I re-watched several times and listened and took notes. I am grateful for this video and your shared wisdom and the outline of these 8 habits. I realized I can re-define my life as it is currently and can take action to build up my happiness along my journey to wellness. Thank you for your inspiration. I am grateful. 💕💕💗💗

    What a wonderful vlog and what great advice!
    When I turned 40, I truly turned my life to having a relationship with God. Once I did , I became a better wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend!
    Now turning 50 next year, living through breast cancer, helping my sister through her cancer battle as well, I know that life isn’t always easy, but God will never leave our side!

    I agree with everything you said. It's been a rough year, but some good has come out of it for me. I used to be all about work, but since covid, I've started gardening, meditating, and have become more spiritual. Having extra time on my hands has shown me that life isn't about work and superficial things... Thank you for this video. Love it and LOVE YOU!! 💗

    I just shared this video with a friend of mine. I think she hits most, if not all, of your 8 tips. She's spiritual, giving, a cook, a gardener, a giver at her Church, a hiker and disciplined. I hope she enjoys this video as much as I did. My struggle is being a Grandma doing hybrid schooling with my two Granddaughters (aged 12 and 7). I pray for patience (ha).

    Thank you for always bringing a positive attitude into my life! One thing that has made me happy since COVID hit is staying home and slowly going through all of my items in our house. I have went through so much stuff and gave away donated. The more stuff we have that we don’t use is such a waste, someone else would be so grateful to have! I love giving to others and I’ve done a lot of that since the Virus has been so rampant in the United States!

    This was great. I'm a bit younger than maybe the democratic you are mostly talking to but so much of what you share resonates with me. My daily spiritual practice and gratitude practice are a huge part of my serenity and joy. Also staying grounded in the present moment especially time being silly with my kids!! Oh and getting outside as much as possible... gotta love fall. ❤
