    What I’d really love to see is someone do a video on replacing the rubber mountings and bushings under the rear motor mount, including removing and reinstalling the crossmember. Now there’s a job that separates the men from the boys!

    Just need some advice please. My steering rack on my 72 mgb roadster is really really heavy at low speeds. I was thinking of doing a power steering conversion but maybe i just have a faulty rack? Is your re con unit light enough to use at low speeds?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  7 месяцев назад

      With an old car they will always be more heavy to turn the wheel at lower speeds, you could up the tyre pressures in the front a little, or consider a power steering rack 👍

      Thanks for the reply. Id better check the pressure first as i it looks pretty low. Thanks

      Cheers John, it's very much a rat car, and one I'm only spending money on when it really needs something, or I see something for a good price. It will be restored one day, but its way back on the restoration queue, so for now it's just loved for being the rat car it is

    Hi Steve, Saw you walking in to the Stoneleigh show as we were walking out. It was pi**ing rain and you were on the phone so again didn't get a chance to say hello. Hopefully next time. Great job on the steering rack, even if it is an MG!. Cheers Sean

      Cheers Sean, wasn't it just. A tree came down a few cars in front of me on the way home, and with the weather that bad I was beginning to think on the drive back is this really worth it for saving a few pounds on parts. I've no doubt we'll cross paths somewhere again and have a good chat

    Another good video Steve, certainly makes the job look easy. I tried to remove my track rod ball joints using the trusted hammer method but I couldn't free them, probably cause I can't find my lump hammer 😂

      Easy ball joint removal……loosen nut to the end, slapp couple times on the end with hammer, put jack under the nut, with a little tension, slap side of ball joint a few times, it will pop up out of socket. Never failed me.

    Is the need for an alignment avoidable ? i wonder from new when adding outer tie rods how many turns are required :)

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  3 года назад

      You do need to align the tracking. Not doing it will see uneven tire wear, and the car will handle very badly. You can roughly set them up from the old ones taken off by counting the turns as I did in the video, but this is no guarantee they are correct in the first place is is only a rough guide. Ultimately as I said in the video, you need to take it to get the tracking aligned 👍

    Hello Steve. Been hibernating? ....you wouldn't have been changing the rack this weekend that's for sure! The front lower section of the osf wing looks sad. And tell your lady to take her stilettos off! that headcloth is well ripped!😂 Guess a TR6 rack wouldn't be that much more? Good to see you back. Early GT's are on the ascent (about time too!)

      Hi John, I always enjoy reading your comments, you've got a great sense of humour!! I've not done many videos lately mostly down to the weather, but I had last week off work so there will be a few videos coming out over the next few weeks. Since buying the MGB I can't get over how much cheaper parts are then Triumph bits, but then there are a lot of MGB's on the road. I'll probably never do a full resto with my BGT, I like it being a rat rod, and I've got the attitude with it, it gets what it need only when it needs it. That way all of the other cars and bikes get an equal share of my resources

    How did you set the tracking? Did you not take measurements off the old rack or at least mark where the track rod ends were on the old rack and copy this? Surely it drives like a cross-legged donkey like that

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 года назад +1

      Hi mate, I just counted the turns when I took the old track rod ends off the steering rack, then just put them on the new rack with the same amount of turns. This set it roughly correct. Then not seen in the video I took it to my mates garage where I used a set of lazer tracking gauges to align the tracking. It wasn't far out
