Glad you mentioned that about gear oil on the rack because I had thought and heard from numerous sources that grease goes on there. The brown substanceI saw on the rack when I inspected it did look like old gear oil however. I have an extra steering track i bought off ebay but I think there are tiny metal shavings from it in the powersteering fluid. Would having a shot rebuild this rack help at all?
The steering rack arms which you fasten your track rod ends too have a ft/pound measure you can measure with a spring pull , it was ,if my memory serves me right was 5 ft,pounds, this can be adjusted with the shims.
Good work 1 complant. Calling a resealed itom rebuilt is a cheap Chinese knock-off use of the turms.... been through 5 resealed steering boxes passed off as rebuilt to get to 1 better than the origina I turned in as core...
nothing like a how-to video that fast forwards through the entire how to.

That is a much simpler rack than what is on most modern vehicles with hydraulic steering.
Thanks!
