Appreciate the midwest humor.
The Rivian R1S is amazing.
Another great video. Mike smoothly savage as usual.
Thanks
We APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO MIKE ,ERIC and the whole MUNRO TEAM 👍😎😁💚💚💚
Nice to meet Mike on a great review.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hoping the Munro team reads it this time: please put the music on the same volume output level as the speech. You’re triggering tinnitus to me and various other viewers (who agreed with this comment on the previous video).
Thanks in advance ❤
👏👏👏 Let's hope that they read that. I hate and suffer when the volume goes up like in this video, and it should be easy for them to do it right...
Great industrial design 👍🏻great video. Hope they are a great success.
Nice review. You provided a good description of driving dynamics without speaking too much (like many other RUclips content creators).
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for that,...I learned a little more about the car. I didn't know about the locations of all the cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors until now.
Thank you for the hard work
Thank you for watching!
Very informative in an easy to follow manner.
Thanks for the initial driving impressions. Seems like an excellent 7-seat SUV.
@@user-nu1vn3yy9s Less safe than what? On what do you base this statement?
@@user-nu1vn3yy9s Well, okay. You could buy a school bus, put really big airbags in the back half, make everyone sit in the front half, with seatbelts on, of course, rig up airbags on the sides, nobody sits by a window-just in the isle seats-and not drive above 35 mph. Would this work?
Pats the top of the roof
This bad boy has got some power, gotta watch out I don’t get jailed
I love the stereotypical car salesman humor 🤣
Next, maybe do a 2000 mile road trip and tell us about the charging experiences...
quite the idea man… what would you haul though…. ho ho go.. 🎉 0:02
Munro and Rivian.....the perfect combination.
I always enjoy your reviews, thank you! Great review of a fantastic vehicle!
Our pleasure!
Seems like a nice and quiet ride, and that turning radius is seriously impressive! Let's just hope they manage to avoid some of the hiccups they've had with the R1S.
Just past by you on 169, nice ride!
Great review! Great music!!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you!
You bet!
Nice review. Thanks
Mark Plott gonna be PISSED
Surprised he isnt here saying how much better the Cybertruck "is". Lol.
Funny guy lol. Always appreciate his insights
Another great job.
Thanks, Michael!
Beautiful car!
does it have DSRC V2X communications for vehicle-to-vehicle/infrastructure integration? (in the 5.8 GHz band for Europe and 5.9 GHz band for North America)
How is the road noise level during standard road and freeway driving. We have a Prius V now and it's pretty noisy.
Wow, a car that can stop, start, and drive fast on a dirt road, thought this day would never come.
😂😂😂
nice big display!
Mike says that the wheels are R19, but we can see clearly in this video that they are R20, hehe. Though, nice car and Rivian rocks! Go Rivian, go! Both thumbs up! 👍👍
Such a nice vehicle
Such an unaffordable vehicle for the average worker !
@@bextar6365 stop whining
@@jamesengland7461 Who the hell is whining,, you can't afford one !!!
Other than all the electrification related features of my Tesla, my number one favorite feature is the base Auto Pilot system. The fact it will work on any road with painted lines, not geofenced, is the main reason why I won't switch from Tesla (until someone makes a system equal or better than AP, non-geofenced)
Wow those camera placements are discreet!
and some have self cleaning feature, hey Tesla, ever considering this?
We should standardize the "four parking spaces" measurement :) Good video :)
Mike has been a fintech exec before - i recognize that avoiding jail instinct
4:02 Kyle Conner 'woz 'ere ;) I recommend checking out his reviews if you want to learn more about the R1S.
@Kyle Connor, came to post this! :D
Kyle is too busy with his growing garage full of cars (how he affords them all is a mystery) and he got a sweet deal from Rivian with only a two month wait for his truck.
Nice thorough video, Mike! wish I could afford one.
A little preparation about the product prior to making a video might have helped your presentation. Just like when you did the Model Y video and said the Fascia was the front, yet it actually was the rear Model Y fascia.
wonder if they going to bring out a longer version of this SUV it feels very strange they designed it to be shorter than the truck in the short term that was a lot more parts that needed a design change etc
Let’s hope not. The Range Rover Defender came out with a 130 version and it completely destroyed the aesthetics and off-road capabilities. The Taho is a good looking SUV, the Suburban is ridiculous. I get it, some people need a “school bus” that tows, but hopefully Rivian doesn’t feel they need to fill that niche.
Nice
Great sense of humor and wit! Still can't make me subscribe though.
Good video, however, there is some misleading wording in it.
The R1S did not lower itself (at timestamp 9:00) as the vehicle was not in Sport mode. The reason the notice comes up is because the vehicle is saying “Is it safe to lower the ride height?"
When Mike pressed the silver cancel button, the ride height change was denied. What Mike should do is press the yellow button that says “Lower Ride Height”, to accept the ride height change.
Happy holidays!
And the AT tires come on 20" wheels, not 19".
@@chuckm260 Yep
I think that was put together later in the editing. This is why they show the ride height lowering from inside the shop.
@@patreekotime4578 possibly yea
Sorry, Mike, but the turning circle radius is actually five vehicles wide, not four.
I bet the Kyle at 4:02 was Kyle Conner from @OutofSpecReviews
The vehicle is built like a tank, but also weighs as much as a tank.
It'll be interesting to see what the CT weighs in a max battery trim. My guess is less than the R1T, but the stainless "exoskeleton" steel makes estimation difficult.
@@johnmolloy4878 Well, the dual casting Ys weigh more than the old versions. So extensive use of castings and a very heavy stainless shell means itll be heavy. As long as it weighs less than the Hummer. 🤣
Why can't it change ride height while it's moving? My Tesla can.
One thing that boggles my mind is the fact that the steering wheel always has a wobble to it when it is turned . Is this done by design, or they have not figured out out to produce a wobble-free steering wheel?
I wonder if it has something to do with a separate motor controlling each wheel?
This whole adas system must be very inexpensive to repair when some time goes by and technical problems emerge.
cyber truck needs to see the…the emergency vehicle soon…
No doubt these vehicles with adaptive controls will be a boon for distracted type drivers who want to multitask while going down the road. Pretty soon all our years of driving skills will be gone and we'll be at the mercy of AI. What a world.
@@user-nu1vn3yy9s those changes come not from programmers, but from managers.
Not a fan of the camera on the fender flares, seems like it would be too easy to damage.
the adjustment of the steeting wheel is so stupid. i can do the same in my 1984 ford e150 without any servo or computer. and latency looks horrible, makes the adjustment a pain in the a**!
The new EV's all seem to be laden down with tons of features that add little usefulness, but are just another item to break down. Very few people are likely to drive an expensive car like that off-road over rocks, streams and brush. Why don't they just make a good, reliable car that isn't decorated with gimmicks like a rolling Christmas tree?
If you do not plan to take it to off-road, then do no to buy offroad-capable EV. Buy model 3 or S and enjoy.
Would be nice if they actually dissected vehicles that consumers will actually volume buy.. 1%ers 🙄
I give you a like.
I stopped this video in 4 minutes. Waste no time on this...
I'm just waiting for my CyberTruck...
I see a Renault badge each time.
Geofenced ADAS is 2nd rate. Open source does it better.
Ah so the vehicle is geofenced, sad but expected.
Why am I watching this, as this is a high end luxury car. Never will be able to afford a car half this price. How would it perform today in Minnesota , minus 7?
If you're driving less than 180 miles in a single day, it'll perform just fine.
I’m waiting for my RIS
+1 for not doing 90mph.
7:25 Please. I would prefer to hear some vehicle noises, not heavy metal music. If I want to hear heavy metal music, I turn on heavy metal music, not Munros RUclips channel. Thank you.
take a shot every time he sucks his teeth 🤦♀️
Lost me at all those cameras. I only want cameras that I have sole control of. I'm not taking part in their corporate/government surveillance program on my dime. Any data captured will be used to deny warranty claims or be sold to 3rd parties for additional revenue. Do any of the EV makers even acknowledge this and provide opt-out measures?
9 min surprised you can't shift into off road mode while driving!
The Rivian interior looks to be almost a copy and paste of Tesla. Glad they didn't plaster everything with buttons. This is both good to see for Rivian and validation that Tesla's minimalistic interiors are the way forward.
The Rivian interior gives me a unique look and feel. For the most part I did NOT get any feel I was in a Tesla.
I guess this is going to be the tesla killer for the USA
Polestar,
@@FlippedSociety they are cool, but more expensive
@First Last - Agree with most of what you mention but the base price for a pre-order R1S 2WD Standard Pack is around $78k (without $7500 US federal tax credit). And comparing an R1S to Model 3 is completely illogical. People in the market for a Model 3 type vehicle, meaning a sedan, would not be looking at an R1S and vice versa.
What humor ?
You can't get these, so why look in to them?
What? They're just now being released to the public, and we're interested.
Did Rivian quit making them?
@@jamesengland7461 Well, on their web site, they let you make one up, but not save what you made, nor order, or prepare to order one. I just figured except for demos they were vaporware, as such.
@@Daveyk021 they have delivered about 12,000 vehicles till Sep 30 th and also have an order backlog of 114k . That’s why they have removed the save reservations as the deliveries are ramping now . As of now you can just get a spot in the line .
It just doesn't do it for me at all. I don't like the dash or the styling of Rivians. The lack of a HUD, no mood lighting. Obviously a really good vehicle, just not for me.
Cats and dogs, I stopped watching!
🐶🐱
Bye bye dawg
Rivian all in all, is not bad. but, it's just too Expensive for consumers.
Less expensive than model X though and way more robust.
Lol. Compared to what other 7 seat EV SUVs? Lol.
It’s such a ugly vehicle.
Rivian is not that tough.
MUNRO broke the rear glass window when loading the RIVIAN, and Kim Java cracked the glass roof just laying on it.
Sandy broke the Rivian when he test drove it on off road course.
the Rivian is not tough, it's a LIGHTWEIGHT.
"just laying" sitting... What of course not means that i would allow myself any form of criticism about dear Kims weight... Maybe if shoe would eat more McDonalds her bum is softer and better suited for american glass roofs?
The Rivian is a lifestyle off roader. Not comparable with a Toyota Landcruiser or a Landrover.
For sure has better off road capability than the model X . I’m not so sure Model X would have survived the first 5 minutes in that off-road course that Sandy put the R1T through .Then again, model X is more a coup than SUV .
@@Rx100Vx What do you expect from a SUV? Its not a offroad vehicle.
Maybe in the 1980s when the genre was invented by Toyota, but not for long. Today SUV is a euphemism for a bit larger and more comfortable sedans for families and elderly people who do not want to buy a a full fledged Van.
Me.
Today's SUV's certainly can not go off road. I would never with my Model Y!
@@wolfgangpreier9160 as I mentioned my expectations of an SUV aren’t met by the X but the expectations from a Coup are for sure being met in full . That’s why I used “more than” which indicates degree . Sure X is a sporty vehicle but more a coup .
Also “ todays SUV’s” probably have lost some of that charm of a sports Utility Vehicle and become more MPV or even glorified mini van people carriers and that’s why the R1S is a fresh breath of air especially as an EV. Well that’s my opinion .
@@Rx100Vx Thats perfectly ok, i don't know which category many cars are. I don't really care.
If i want to drive a offroad vehicle i would buy a Unimog and electrify it. With my company cars i certainly do not want to make them more dirty than necessary. That we do not really have any dirt or eve dirty roads in central Europe is another topic.
I ordered 2 CT's for my company to be used as cheap transport solutions. There are no other vehicles available in that price class with similar features and low operating costs.
Maybe Stellantis or VW, Isuzu or Hino make one till the CT comes to Europe but somehow i doubt they can.
the Rivian ADAS is Terrible, it's not even level 2.
meanwhile, TESLA has pushed out FSD to everyone, and it works Great as any FSD should. Tesla FSD is level 4 BTW.
Depends where you’re driving it! Still need more data collection for most areas (wide release should help)
A Munro review of everyone's ADAS quality would be awesome.
ROFL, do you just make shit up daily? I have 2 Tesla's they're level 2 at best.
@@andreavenaa - not many Rivian are made, and not as popular as F150 Lightweight. gm & F have worse ADAS than Rivian.
@@andreavenaa Yes, i've just watched a FSD drive on Canadian Winter roads. Not really great. A bit snow and ice, a bit slippage and it gives up. Poor performance!
