Excellent, comprehensive coverage of what to expect from the fully enclosed brother. I like how you always cut away from the dashboard gauge cluster cam whenever you go into reckless driving ticket territory. lol.
That Rivian Blue is stunning every time I see it, what a color. Pleasant surprise to hear that the pickup truck rides better!
Longer wheelbase more straight line stability
Rivian is really nailing it for a new car company. I don't know if they'll get into the crossover or sedan market, but if they do the other manufacturers need to look out.
Respect your Hard work..all the way from India.
Hey Kyle - surprised Rivian didn't fix that compressor for you since the Ft Collins meetup last weekend. My R1S _definitely_ does not run the compressor as much as you are experiencing or as loud. Definitely it is something on your review truck specifically.
Haha, you nailed so many of my observations as well.
The style is a good combination of classic and modern.
Really appreciate the comprehensive review and I appreciate the fact you give us the good and the bad!
Great review. Like to see a comparison test between the 20, 21 and 22's in rain and snow. Hopefully we can see this on a future review. Not interested as much in range, but performance between the 3 in varying inclement conditions. Keep up the great insights.
The gleeful look on your face when launching the R1S is worth the price of admission! You're having lots of fun!
Oh! You're driving around my hometown! What a nice little surprise and definitely kept my attention while figuring out where in town you were. Thank you for the in depth review.
Thanks for the review, Kyle. This is really helpful.
I only just found your channel today and that was an amazing review bro!! Really in-depth and informative, I learned a lot just from this 1 vid! I’m really surprised this vid doesn’t have like couple hundred thousand views!! I’m definitely subscribing and keen to watch more especially on the Cyber Truck. Thank you
Do a great wonderful job on your reviews love them my son bought his first electric vehicle and his first vehicle it's a Nissan leaf 2015 for $10,000 missing one notch for battery
Longest video I've ever watched in the EV world. Thanks for this one, Kyle. I'd been seeing stuff that questioned the handling of the R1S, but you showed that there isn't anything to worry about. Now all that has to happen is for Rivian to pick my name out of the preorder hat...
We're more than ready to become an all-EV family. We've had a Kia Niro EV EX for a bit over 2-1/2 years. We've been searching for the best replacement for our one remaining DDB (dead dinosaur burner). The R1S is at the top of the list.
Thanks!, Hey Kyle, thanks for all of the reviews. I really enjoy your narrative qualities and accurate descriptions and all of the insane amount of topics.
I work for Webasto in Monrovia (formerly Aerovironment). I started there in the late 90's.
Oh, reason for writing, just wanted to mention I'm getting my R1S soon. Paid for, just waiting.
Great in depth review!
We totally agree w Kyle’s assessment. We love our r1t. At first I thought I’ll flip it, especially when the market was crazy hot when we got it early in the summmer. But we ended up loving the car. For the price it’s much better than the fully loaded 2020 x5 we had. My husband who generally loves and only drives small sporty cars, has taken over my r1t where previously he had never touched the x5. We picked it up at the factory and had an amazing road trip back to ny.
I’m waiting for the r1s, but I’m not sure if it’ll be able to replace my minivan. I frequently have 6 passengers and the r1s seems cramped. Nothing beats the minivan for versatility….I can’t wait for an ev minivan. That would be my ultimate car :)
It’s extremely hard to replace the practicality of a minivan if you are used to it.
@@joetacchino4470 Agreed. Why no manufacturer has made an all electric minivan is beyond me. Seems like the only EVs manufacturers are interested in making is small cars and crossover suvs.
They're leaving out a market that wants a full size suv or minivan.
@@Superman-xr1oh We were also in the market for an electric minivan and the Chrysler Pacifica plug in was the closest thing we found. It did the job and since we plugged in every chance we got, we were able to drive it mostly on electric mode. Super comfy road tripper too. Now that we have the R1S, I feel like we have more room since you can use the space where the engine normally goes as well as the space normally reserved for the gas tank. Did you take delivery of your S yet?
Great review! Love this video and the other ones! Best nice to hear from rivian about the thermal issues when dc charging. Which it could go 0-60% without thermal issues
Cranking out videos today..... love it... thanks!
As a R1S owner, this is a great video to learn about the car. btw, Kyle can drive too!
Really can’t wait to get mine
Wish there was a way to test drive these (R1T also ) . I am not putting a grand down on something I don't even know I would like . Great job on video. Love watching you put these ev to real world tests !
They probably use the front motors for conserve mode so you still get good regen braking. If it was the rears you would probably need to use the actual brake since the front tires do most of the braking work.
Love all your videos. Would be great to see some b roll of the exterior driving buy to get a better idea of what you are reviewing. Cheers
Get mine on Saturday so back to watching all these videos 😅
Man, I just love my Rivian.
I once had an '89 Mitsubishi Gallant GS with the ECS (Electronically Controlled Suspension) that had an air compressor which was somewhat loud when energized.
I'm watching this video to prep for your CT overlanding video for comparison. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm cross shopping the CT dual motor and the R1S.
Kyle, great review as usual. I wonder if you or any of your viewers know whether the R1S is being updated. I have been a reservation holder for 4 years, and still waiting for my delivery. I realize that OTU are taking place. But legacy manufacturers update their hardware on a yearly basis. Is the R1S hardware of a delivery today the same as that of one last year? Not just under the hood (like the issues that could be improved with suspension,...) but also new hardware features? Or is the car being delivered today the same as it was 4 or 5 years ago at a hardware and feature level (ie no year to year model improvements, and again I do not mean OTU). Thank you.
Thanks!
Hey Kyle, I know the iX has no off-road chops like the R1S but purely as an EV SUV (range, ride, speed, interior space, and price) would you pick the R1S over the iX50?
@55:50 correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t there no diffs in the Rivan? With quad motors isn’t each wheel powered individually, thus making it possible to mimic the performance of an lsd with programming? If outside rear wheel is maxed out I would think the software would be smart enough to deliver some negative torque to the inside wheel, rather than just letting it make smoke.
Kyle, are you cutting the line for R1S as well and screwing other reservation holders?
Did your R1T ride better after software updates or has it been this way since you picked it up? Since the R1S is new then maybe the ride will get better with software updates.
all right so I saw a video of one vehicle being engineered they the battery packs up with like double style batteries insulated in between large portion of them heated and cooled from the top has a dimple on the bottom so if it goes it will go down easy to mass produce according to the engineer found it interesting
Interesting I don't have the air compressor act like that on my R1T at all when it does the return from Kneel mode
Something often overlooked, including yourself is the curb weight of the R1S. You refer to it a a 7,000lb vehicle, when in fact it only weighs 5,842lbs. A full 1306lbs less than an R1T.
Is it possible to drive without One Pedal? Can I let it coast like a normal car? I have another EV and by far prefer coasting to one pedal. Can the Rivian disable one pedal? Is the lowest regen settings very slight?
Wait, is that an E-Transit @ 6:16? Those weren't coming to the US yet.
I really wish Driver+ would auto-reengage after a lane change. My Mach-E with *basic* TACC/LK reengages automatically, even a non-BlueCruise model.
Great detailed review. The only thing I wish you would consider is to maybe stop talking upon acceleration and highway cruise so we can hear just how quiet it really is. Thanks for all your time and effort.
How is the wind noise when driving?
Compared to the Mach E GT Performance, how is the torque on takeoff? Is it even comparable?
What's tire wear like on an EV like the Rivian? Seems like heavier vehicles would wear much faster
Have a R1S on order and administer the R1S enthusiasts Facebook group… having driven on both, what do you prefer… the 22’s or the 20’s?
... and always have two stones with you for parking.😁
Just wish we could get one, not looking likely they’ll be available in Europe for years
If an electrical plug-in is on the right (passenger) side, do EVs & PHEVs, in general, have a fail-safe so one cannot hop in & drive away while still plugged in?
Most, if not all EVs, won't let you fully start the car so you can't drive away when plugged in.
approx 33 min you can see how the wheel is turned to the left not centered, mine is like that too after 4 attempts by the service center to fix the alignment........hopefully they fix it from the factory down to the service centers, as they're having a very difficult time doing what should be simple
Ruts on the road
Thumbs up review. Our neighbor is an executive with the company, has 2 parked in their driveway, and we can't get past that ugly front clip. I couldn't get up in the morning and have to face that at that price. If anything, the F150 is easy on the eyes.
So... How far does the Cyber Truck need to fall behind schedule before all these other electric trucks make it obsolete?
I wager the cyber truck will be a bought by a select crowd and sales will fall off pretty fast.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova I totally agree. It will sell to the hardcore Tesla fans and to those that want a unique truck in a vehicle collection. Then the market will fall off.
Not a bad prediction at all. I actually think all Tesla sales will drop off sharply as competition ramps up.
Commercial trucks usually have a governor to control their speed. The truck on the right should have dropped back to let the passing truck go by.
when will consumers get the $38k electric SUV all optioned out? Something comparable to the Rav4 or CRV
Apple used to have only one iPhone per year. Now they have 4 or 5 phone per year but people dont buy the cheapest SE $450 phone, they mostly buy the $1100 max version.
Such a nice vehicle. Now that the Tesla charging network is opening up, Model X has nothing on R1S.
Does “ocean coast” mean sand coloured? Pretentious?😇😎
Not sure if it is just the beard, but I'm sure he was smiling the
In tie er time
Maybe next american, and european after Explorer MEB platform, Ford Explorer (and Range Rover) based in that. Platform share. The R1T is more like a Ford Range pick up, one step down from de F150.
“I don’t like the car to do anything for me.” (Sets auto-regen on MAX). lol
Really doesn’t like the car to do anything then sets adaptive cruise control and lane centering on the highway 😊😂
@@davidbaker9943 Really doesn't like the car to do anything and then has Nav system find all charging points and route to destination.
I'd love to get this or some other SUV that isn't a crossover EV but I am poor...can't even repair our Durango...can't even afford to feed her neither much less being able to get a used or new vehicle...ice or ev. :(
The tires are likely limited to 118mph top speed
Rivian R1S or Volvo EX90?
I would have bought one had it not been for the huge price increase Rivian stuck people with.
Why stop charging at 70%?
To preserve the life of the battery. Charging it to 100% every day will degrade the battery.
Cooling is the major inadequacy.
They over heat if that's the cooling you mention. It's a problem here in the Southwest.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova Umo it's one of the core engineering responsibilities of every manufacturer. Control the battery temp. Rivian and others should do what it takes. They haven't yet.
Wait, the wood trim is going away?
@out of spec reviews Kyle can you clarify what you meant? I can't find anything on Google about the wood trim going away.
I think it’s going to be an option instead of being included. Not sure though.
Wood isn't going away, just additional vegan leather wrap options coming.
@@skylerwilliams @brad beckett ok cool. Thanks guys.
70% daily charging limit? That's the lowest I've ever heard of. Makes me wonder how short the battery longevity would be if you set a more conventional 90%.
Love your videos, unfortunately, most are too long to make it all the way through. This one at 71 minutes, wow. Great content and delivery, just don't have that much time to kill. The majority in the 40 minute range are too long. Hopefully, someday, can offer a full and condensed version for those of us with bigger time restrictions?
The thumbnail on this video is some of the biggest Clickbait I’ve seen in a very long time. I really thought I was going to see this thing off road.
When will this new Electric auto industry convert to fungible batteries? That will totally eliminate charging issues - time, overheating, etc. Have charging stations that keep interchangeable battery packs - this could be totally automated - battery packs are removed from one side and replaced from the other side. All cars use the same battery packs, just different quantities of them. Battery health is monitored, and once used up, they are dumped and new ones loaded. This is the only way this technology will last as a permanent solution. "Charging" by this method will take only a few seconds - as long as it takes to swap drained batteries out with charged batteries. Not sitting in long lines waiting for chargers in larger cities. The batteries in the station are continuously kept charged, day and night. It's a no-brainer.
Whats with the bots in the coments ☠️☠️😊
So8unds great now where is the rest of the truck? Like for $70-S100 you can buy an Escalade long wheel base or a GMC Hummer both beat this in many of it's categories and most importantly size.
Why buy those if you can buy a school bus? Or a train? Both beat those in many of their categories and most importantly size.
@@ezmn9663 Best comment EVER!!!! 🤣
I 💙 you!!!
Lol needs mapped freeways for auto pilot. what a joke. even Bold does better.
11:51 you don’t buy it to show off? Are you kidding me? Anyone that buys this truck/suv are buying it to show off.
If you believe Form follows Function, then no.
@@Vamanos46 How many Jeep owners actually use all those bling-y jeeper bolt-ons? Very few! It's all about showing off in your Jeep. For most people, this truck will be no different.
I bought mine to drive...
Oh, and I have built Jeeps that are used for their intended purpose too, not just street queens.
I love my r1t but it’s too flashy for me. My husband commented how he’s noticed I don’t drive it much for local errands and it’s bc it gets too much attention from everyone. I think all the dads in town has asked me about the car.
@@skylerwilliams They do exist. But I think it's like... you and 6 other people.
Did you not hear about the Rivian recall? It's a total junk.
I’d really recommend that you start being less of an idiot on a regular basis.
