In the USA, our F30s have a 8mm torq under the transparent plastic holding the top assembly to the bottom. There is no way to pry them apart with removing that fastener! Once the fastener is removed, you don't need a card card or pry bar as it loosely comes apart with just a finger nail. The first step for North American F30s is to gently pry up the transparent plastic which is held on with adhesive tape, then unscrew the 8mm torq fastener and the top piece will easily separate from the bottom.

Hi there. Thanks so much for this in-depth video showing the inside parts of these selectors. Quick question from my side - my X6 E71 unlock (release) button of the selector is loose and wiggling. I took it apart and seems some part of it is broken. Do you think I can replace the unlock button as well with the outeer black side frame that holds it in place? From what I found in the net, the inside part of this button and the way it holds itself to the side black frame could be different, but in all cases it just pushes another button inside the shifter. So do you think the whole side black frame with the button is replaceable from other bmw selectors from F series for example? Thanks a lot!
Hey have a 2012 535xi non m sport . I tried to use a credit card to take off the silver face plate and even some plastic pry tools but it just won’t come off. It should be the same method as the 7 series one you showed at the beginning of this video right? It does not have the plastic round thing on bottom that you move counterclockwise for the x5 one. I don’t want to break it by trying again so just want to confirm with you that there are no screws I need to remove
Hi, I really enjoy your channel. You gave me a lot(!) of hints with my E60 lci. Thank you for that! One question. Did you try to disassemble the gearknob all the way to the ' metal core' (from E60)? Is it possible to remove the black plastic thing that's inside decorative housing (that keeps semiconductor wafer in it)? It seems there's no other way to get inside the mechanism of the gearknob...if yes...could you give some tutorial on that? Thank you in advance!

Hi brother I love your videos.. Question for you.. If my shifter don't want to go to park stays in neutral all the time... Goes to drive and reverse fine but no park... Even when turn the hand brake.. Park... It's doesn't.. Go.. So you think is one of the Robin cables inside or something else.. Thank you my friend

Hello ! yon need to do a diagnosis and after that depending on what errors do you have need to be disassembled to se if is repairable or need to be replaced .
Thanks for this great video! Very instructive. In my 2009 F02, the gear selector feels loose and makes a loud ticking sound when changing gears. It still works, but it doesn't feel solid. I suppose the problem is in the bottom part of the selector. Do you have any advise for repairing it?
You will have to disassemble it and see what the problem is !

Hi is there any part number avaliable for the ribbon connector? Disassembled my gear shifter because the lights weren't working, and found that the brown ribbon cable had snapped in half.

2012 X5 xDrive 35i shifter wiggly. I have to hold it back to stay in drive or it will jump to Neutral. Will not move to the manual side at all. Will this get worse? Do I have to replace the entire shifter? What causes the failure?

M.Ovidiu looking at the differences, I think there are discrepancies in the jacks, if both are sports shifts ... I'm sure there are always options for everything just the big difference I guess is in the connection ... but I don't understand them, I just thought to insert this mess with you ... will definitely cause a lot of people

You can't find to buy separately parts for this, you need to buy a new one

Salut! sincer nu am desfacut nici unu dar principiile sunt lafel.
Salut, la f01 îmi arata ca e în N când pun pe P. Diagnoza îmi da eroare la blocul de valve. Masina e defapt în P. Mi-a zis cineva ca poate o fii selectorul cu probleme. Asa e de 4 ani, doar ca afișează tot timpul N. Ce părere ai. Merita sa schimb selectorul? Mersi fain.
Salut , daca ai eroare in blocul de valve nu are treaba selectorul , chiar am avut una cu aceiasi problema si sa rezolvat prin inlocuirea mecatronicului .
@@MOvidiu Am comandat selectorul second-hand, trebuie sa îl fac ceramic (dacă merge) - al meu e ceramic. Dacă nu, îl trimit inapoi. După ce am văzut video-ul doar la asta m-am gândit :) Eroarea: 400636 PARKING-LOCK SENSOR, LINE L4 FAULTY

the ribbon contains “traces” - conductors akin to wires - embedded in a thin plastic ribbon like a thick cellophane. These are used to interconnect circuit boards in a complicated device like the BMW gear selector.
