Facelift has the ZF8hp transmission, which is nice and makes it drive nice, but crappy N57 engine that will spin a bearing sooner or later. If you buy one, you should do the timing chain and crank/rod bearings as soon as possible.
Pre-facelift has the old and slow ZF6hp transmission, which is a real downgrade when it comes to driving dynamics, but you get the M57TU2 engine, which will need a timing chain replacement, but still a fair bit more durable than the N57.
You should really look for one with S233A option (increased towing capacity), as those have a more durable rear diff (normal diffs tend to fail, 2nd hand is expensive too kinda).

I own an E70 X5 3.5i X-Drive and 100% endorse this video! I have owned it since 2021 and it is an absolute joy to drive. It truly ticks all the boxes; power, speed, design, driving technology, soul, utility - everything except towing capacity. I've been toying with selling her for a few months now but can't bring myself to do it. As he said, the design has aged incredibly well and as they become more rare, this generation of X5 will definitely be a collectible in a few years time. Love my E70 X5.

@@Fuqmesideway I think the e70 is slowly becoming a classic like the e30 or e36, in a way. for me, the e70 is the best body of the x5, there is wonderful perfection and balance. The newer models somehow don't have this, as for me. and the interior, simple but in a perfect line, few knobs and buttons, no screen monitors everywhere, normal clocks with hands and so on ye this is the best x5 for me. everything he said is true. An absolute blast to drive. Hugs the road like an F1 car, Steering is sure and nimble at high speed and one thing he didn't mention about the brakes, They don't dive. No matter how hard you hit the brakes they instantly bias in such a way as not to dive. Also, you can simply hit the brake and back off and once you don't get back on the throttle the car remains at that same speed neither slowing nor speeding up. So lets say some idiot cuts you off and you jam the brake. There is no fishtailing if you slam the brakes then try to swerve. Just all the wheels with traction and the sureness of the steering.
I still don't recommend them unless you have a bottomless budget. Vanos valves will go, PCV valves will go, disa valves will go, If its called a sensor then it will fail, water pump, thermostat, every plastic connection end and there are hundreds, starter, tailights door locks, sunroof, tailgate struts.
ALL WIILL FAIL at some point, usually two at a time.
Getting rid of this car was like getting rid of a beautiful sexy toxic girlfriend.

As someone who has owned a 2013 BMW X5 xdrive35i for the past years pushing just over 400whp with some mods. It is a great car, I beat the piss out of it not gonna lie, and the most I’ve done for maintenance was: replace original battery, original passenger side taillight, original coolant reservoir, and a drivers side front brake backing plate. Even stock the car feels fast because of how torquey the n55 is, and the N55 is just such a good reliable and good sounding engine. If you want a good daily driver that still looks good and is nice to drive, this will always be the first car I recommend. I got mine for pretty high mileage too, so if you want a cheaper one for higher mileage, I wouldn’t be concerned about the higher mileage. And same as this one in his video, the brakes are surprisingly good for not being M brakes. Great vid by the way!

@@toxicfusiongaming7563 an easy way to make that power is getting a flash tune. If you want a bit more you can get a cat back exhaust and a air intake. Easiest way to get the most power. If you wanted you could get a more free flow downpipe too. then you’ll basically be maxing out what the stock turbo can handle. I wouldn’t do more than those mods unless you get atleast a stage 2 turbo and stuff

I covered 350k kms with the car as the only 1 owner, and it has been nice and reliable. Only things that have failed was first the alternator, and then later on the fuel pump which grenaded the whole fuel system. Change oil frequently and keep the ad blue full and you’ll have no problems. Mpg around town is not great but is great on highway on long trips (22-23 mpg).

I've had my 2012 LCI 40d for 2 years now. It's been remapped so that it actually now delivers 306bhp to the wheels and 690NM, which gives the gearbox a better time with the shifts.
Having owned a mini countryman with the N47 engine, which needed the camchain replacing, my BMW independent mechanic assured me that camchain issues are not as problematic in the N57 as it is in the N47.
All I've had done as well as the routine engine oil changes every year (6k miles) was to have the ZF8 speed gear box serviced.
Issues I've had with my car is that I regularly need to top up the air con gas every year. Despite having the system leak traced the last time it got gassed, I always seem to have to top up every 6 months or so. Secondly, my remote central locking suddenly stopped working. Both fobs don't work and I don't think it's the diversity antennae, since I can still tune into a DAB radio station.
Nevertheless, when working well, it's a fantastic family workhorse. It regularly does 32mpg, fully loaded cruising down the motorway, dropping to 25mpg when in the rural hilly surrounding environment.
Sadly, I ended up getting a Hyundai Kona EV to replace the wife's countryman (as a company car) which i've been enjoying, so the X5 is relegated to long distance journeys, which it is bloody fantastic at doing. For such a big car, it's dynamically competent and rewarding to hustle around country roads. Get the gearbox in sport mode and it keeps you firmly in the midrange powerband. The 30-70mph dash is fantastic too.

Cons would be insurance and the fact that you need to know a good mechanic that won't screw you. BMW Service centers will reach across you while you're still in your vehicle and put you in reverse because the know you arent ready for the repair costs.

Unfourtunatlly i have to lower the price, here in Portugal the so called "car enthusiats" are dumb, the only "good engine" for them are the average diesel cars (120d, 220d,320d,330,335, 535, 40d etc...) but the true dumb heads only see VAG cars like Seat Ibiza, VW Gollf with PD 130 diesel engines, petrol cars here allmost discarded and, no one cares about confort, space with a big Block petrol engines, they don't know how to maintain... Or better, they are broke to maintain a car properlly so this kind of cars for them are simply unrelliable.
