I am a former police officer and I have been involved in homicide investigations. Never have I heard of an investigator speaking about a female suspect the way Proctor spoke about Karen Read. That would have caused them to lose their job. No one is saying much about Proctor sharing confidential information about a high profile on going investigation with outsiders, such as his high school buddies. To me, from an operational standpoint, that is just as serious as calling Read names. The evidence gathering, storage, and analysis in this case is comical. Leaf blowers, Solo cups, filled in pools, missing dogs, small pieces of plastic on the lawn spotted from a moving car, no security on the crime scene for 12 hours, any of which could have caused the case to be tossed after a supression hearing. Terrible investigation by unqualified investigators. Not to mention the "stuff" guy. He was embarrassing.

“stuff” guy versus the Crash Daddies… How on earth did this case make it to trial? Guess there must have been a lot of pressure from people trying to cover their asses, toward people in power who owed favours.

Are you serious? You don't think police say in private what Proctor said about Karen Read and worse about any person they arrest? You're either very naive or you're not a former police officer.

@@Resmith18SRit’s called discretion. If we don’t focus on the horrific nature of the texts, yes you are right that basically all humans talk shit. But an investigator should know not to put their grossness in writing. And, if they’re going to put in writing on their personal devices, then they should absolutely know not to legally open the door to their personal devices during a trial they are integrally involved with, which Proctor (or I guess someone he talked to) clearly had to in some way in order for the lawyers to have obtained access to it. It’s not about the fact that no one says these words. It’s about the fact that he was so stupid or arrogant that he brought the spotlight onto himself. He is literally trained on obtaining evidence for the expressed purpose of getting people into legal trouble. It can’t be argued that he wouldn’t know this stuff. Clearly he felt that the things he said would NEVER be seen, especially in an incriminating way, which is just straight up stupid or arrogant. No other explanation. This is like the difference between talking shit about someone to your best friend VS documenting your incriminating shit in writing at your workplace directly to your bosses. One of them is pretty normal human behavior and the other is just fucking stupid. He works with other cops who are also trained on this and have an interest in protecting themselves and their jobs. He was stupid as hell for putting himself in the position where other cops could use his words as a deflection for anything they’ve done. I wouldn’t be surprised if Buchenik threw him under the bus when the pressure was turned on. So it’s not that cops don’t say it, it’s that typically cops have enough street smarts to understand how this could be turned against them.

Yes, police officer pay is public and every officer I've personally looked up (barring 1st and 2nd year rookies) have made $115k/year or more... sometimes much more. As a teacher, you should correct people when they say "teachers and police officers" are underpaid. Teachers are woefully underpaid. Police officers are not, especially considering the minimal education and incredibly low bar to become one.

The only accident I’ve seen is her tapping John’s car on private property. Because it’s on private property it doesn’t have to be reported as an accident. My mom did something similar hitting a truck my dad had with his car on their own property. So clearly no accident report barely more than a scratch. So I don’t see how they can charge her with leaving the scene of an accident, unless their cover up works and the jury buys their own narrative of what happened. Which I don’t believe happened at all. And pathetic that Proctor is still receiving a government salary.

I was on a jury once. It's amazing how, if you do things right and don't discuss the case until deliberations, you can be completely surprised by how other jurors see the case. I ate lunch with and talk to one juror all the time. We could have been best friends in the making. Then we went to deliberations. And found out we were polar opposites on how we thought of the case and the evidence. Our jury did come to a conclusion and decided on an award (civil case) in the end, and deliberations weren't really contentious, but it was really eye-opening to me.

Anyone who would vote guilty on any of those charges do not understand the meaning of reasonable doubt. When reputable experts testify the defense’s theory was inconsistent with the injuries, there is reasonable doubt. The only way a juror could vote guilty after that would be the juror had a bias which caused a “personal belief” she was guilty or did not sufficiently comprehend the evidence presented at trial and/the jury instructions.

By charging $10 for MacDonald's, $4 for gas........most people think they are underpaid and need more training.
I say they are exactly what is sought and bought. I don't have it is any accident that government agents act and think the way they do.
No rebuke from the superiors. No immediate action taken.
Proctor isnt "one of the bad apples". Proctor is just a slightly worse version of the general average.
This department doesn't seem much different than so many others across the country.
In fact, this seems to be a miniaturized version of what we see at the federal level.
Proctor is just one festering pimple symptomizing a deeper disease.
Lack of individual accountability and equal protection under the law, seem to be the things that when missing, result in situations like this coverup.
What is clear and obvious is what isn't being discussed.
We can be quite certain that John O'Keefe wasn't killed in the manner the state presented.
The investigation was bungled, botched and "hyper-focusd" on proving an already reached conclusion.
The evidence was irreparably tainted and impeached.
The outcome of this prosecution, regardless of the verdict, is that no New suspect can reasonably be tried.
Whoever committed the crime will never be prosecuted because the entire investigation / prosecution, was never intended to get a conviction. The entire coverup was done by mudding the waters , discrediting the evidence, showing the negligence and incompetence to hide the intentional nature.
It is quite likely, at least some of the individuals involved in this coverup, actually believe(d) in Karen Read's guilt.
The ends justify the means when motivation directs reason.
Imagine trying to argue a conviction against Brian Higgins for killing John O'Keefe.
The defense would simply point to this case as evidence of reasonable doubt.
Who are we going to charge next week when this next prosecution fails? Brian Albert? The plow truck driver?
The actual goal was accomplished and the chances of anyone breaking now depends on how the feds proceed. If they proceed.
Time to move on according to the plan.
      Just thoughts.

Guys- I was in the civil service game for a while so you can take it from me: Proctor is on his way out the door, permanently. The police unions are extremely strong, and the contract they have with police department makes cops un-fireable without a lengthy process of investigation, documentation, and review. Putting someone on paid leave is simply the first step in that process. The fact that he’s keeping his salary, again, means absolutely nothing and you shouldn’t read into that at all because there’s no meaning behind it whatsoever. That’s also part of the process. First you put them on administrative leave, then you do an internal investigation, then you begin the firing process, then there are hearings, the a decision is made, then there’s a review, then it’s finalized, and then he can appeal. After that, if his appeal is denied, he’ll be gone from the department forever and will be unemployable as a police officer anywhere in Massachusetts and probably the country.
So, don’t worry. They’re on step one and I believe it’s a 30 day process in most places. So any bar owners in the area, y’all might wanna keep a lookout for a resume for a dishwasher spot open.

Someone made the decision to give the benefit of the doubt to a colleague or worse do a little favour for a mate that is now being held over them. To make it to trial the first time with such an unsound case there must have been immense pressure from people with a lot to loose. Gov. Healey says state police ‘made the right decision' by relieving Michael Proctor of duty.
You'd think by her saying relieved of his duty. he was fired. But he was transferred, not relieved. it should not be about just the names that he called her. It should also include his lack investigation, not writing reports, chain of custody, not taking pictures.

I was too - but the evidence has shown there is no way he was hit by a car - even just the arm injuries prove that - but there is SO MUCH MORE evidence to the contrary and ZERO evidence showing he was hit by a car. I mean, how would he end up 30 feet from the curb and have zero broken bones? That shows me he was dragged to the spot he was found. Sadly. And no one group of friends and family has so many butt dials at the same time and on the same days. Also, why did Albert & Higgins get rid of their phones the day before they were to have them confiscated? She is not guilty. No doubt in the world.

    • @bubbles0216
      @bubbles0216 5 месяцев назад +9

Same here! I was disgusted by the evidence collection, but thought surely they had *something* if they were prosecuting. I kept waiting for it, and the first nail in the coffin was the ME. All the experts at the end convinced me she couldn't have hit him with her car to cause that combination of injuries.
He had so many injuries to his head/brain, they weren't all documented. One hit with a vehicle isn't going to cause all those injuries to the head, with NO broken bones or bruising to the body (aside from the ones from CPR).
A lot of the people who think she did it think so because, "the evidence only points to her and she said she hit him." Just ignoring that the investigation *only* looked at her so they didn't collect any evidence pointing anywhere else, and she may or may not have said she hit him, but the evidence doesn't show she actually did.

You should watch the Canton town meetings. Everyone who is not a well-connected townie is treated as lesser by the police. At least that's what they're saying. Some have been threatened after speaking out, and allegedly Mr. Albert, unlike normal people, has a phone number for the police that someone will pick up immediately-a privilege that others don't have.
Seriously, the people were BEGGING for change but got ignored. Police audits that were painfully won were assigned to someone who was against them. The people wanted the police chief gone (her contract was over), but they renewed the contract for another year. And then they had the audacity to say, "We are currently not looking for input from the public."
      I mean, WTF?!
In the beginning, I thought a whole conspiracy was a bit much, but after seeing the whole thing going on outside of the trial makes me a lot more open to it.
I have never seen people so desperate in those meetings, but those selectmen were just ignoring the hell out of them.

There is very little that the CW can bring to a retrial other than what has been testified to already. They can’t go back and change the investigation or lack of investigation to work with.
