Barry, I really enjoy your videos in spite of your poor relationship with the weather. Hoist some sail and lay Shadow over and mitigate the flop flopping around. YEAAAAaaaa Baby, enjoy a cold one my friend.
Thank you for speak so slowly and clear for those who do not speak English very well. I liked your history especially because I am machine engineer, but I have been on earth for too long and I miss the sea
Also born in Africa, but Kenya, then moved to South Africa in the '60's. My grandmother would make the trip to Durban each year from the UK, at first on the regular ship and then later on an aircraft. She was born in 1889, before cars and planes, saw two world wars and traveled by air. Amazing period to be alive. You may have passed her in that stretch of sea, Barry. Love the channel and your adventures!
Barry, that young whippersnapper on the Merchant ship looks just like you, you have not aged a bit, well maybe a little. Must be the Ale. Cheers mate, thanks for taking us along. Carry on....
You sail very smart. I appreciate your philosophy of always playing it cautious. So many of my friend have found themselves in situations they never should have been in had they not been so careless.
Great Video, Amazing how dark inside a cloud.Main BOOM as a spiniker- love it, hope you don't wish the main sail quickly.Stop looking behind, unless you are being chased, it only seems to worry you.
a superb mariners vlog mr. perrins, i too sailed those seas in '66 as a 12 year old with my beloved mother aboard a banana boat called the monte anaga, fairwinds
Just started following your episodes and currently binge watching....my dad was an engineer in Ghana, and we also travelled on the Accra and also it’s sister ship, think it was the Aurial back in the early sixties, I remember the kids play area had a ships wheel with a view to sea, and my brother and I used to pretend to be steering the ship.......happy days.
It must be sod bit difficult to package up these videos. I amen enjoying them immensely! I'm guess I'm too old now to o it but I can live vicariously through your great adventures. Thanks again for sharing your experience with me. My grandfather was a sailor having been born in Formby and grew up in Liverpool and went to sea at the age of 14 in 1884 on a clipper sailing to Canada and on to Rangoon and back again. Sailing of course around the cape. So... I guess its in my blood if not my life experience. I wish you fair winds and following seas!
Barry: Enjoying the videos. I'm about a year behind. Trying to catch up on your adventures. It's great to see a guy my age living life as you are. Bravo and well done. Hoping you have many more adventures in store for you.
Great to watch you battling through problems and setbacks with equipment so effectively and calmly Barry...gold medal for perseverance certainly! And to hear of the secondary and spares you've already planned in! A real Sea Dog indeed! (And I accept that in the middle of the ocean on your own you can't actually 'give up', but even so . . . )
As usual a great video. One of my favourite series to follow. You don't dress it up, which makes it so much better. Hope you enjoyed that beer and pizza. You earned it.
Enjoyed your story about being born in West Africa. I once served in Lagos, Nigeria ... it was an interesting and fulfilling experience. Hopefully one day when I “go around” I’ll visit there again.
make more long videos like this please. you can give us random chatter or just sailing footage but continue the great work. makes me feel like im on the boat after a long day.
Another fine video Barry...thought you could have used hot dogs to troll up a fish, LMAO..who cares if it rains ...beats where I am by miles!!! Great story also, love that kind of history... favorable winds!
Wow, Great story you started there at 23:34. Las Palma’s is where I use to go through also. And I love the old Black n White you posted at 25:16.. So, if you where about nine (9).then in 1966, that would put you seven (7) years Younger than me... Not bad, I had guessed you to be about 4 - 8 years younger than I about two weeks ago...!! 👍😎✅
Enjoyed the short history of you as a lad 👍 Just think if you had not sailed in the wrong direction for a short time you might have beaten James there . Do big black clouds follow you ? Haha it looked like your sailing jacket was letting rain in 😞💨 Hope you found a cold bear and the sun finally came out. 🤗
Thanks again. I am actual going to England, medio July. To loock at a Catamaran. So in 1 year and a bit, I hope to come in the same way ;-) From Norway...and my goal is to end up in the Caribbien. You have been a great inspiration. Enjoy your stay and your cold one.
Pull any chart chips from the plotter, disconnect the power source and create a short across positive and negative and turn on the machine. After a few moments ,return everything to normal and restart. Hopefully, you will have vanquished any stray voltage gremlins.
I love your videos and I love hearing and seeing how you're setting your sails and why. I envy your abilities and what you are doing. I hope to do the same within a year, or so. Please keep videos like this one coming. Health and happiness to you
AIS and Marine SSB HF, the last not necessary but wonderful if you have it. But everything has a cost. However AIS transponder, not just a receiver, with VHF Marine radio will keep you out of the guessing game with the shipping.
Thanks Barry for this latest edition. I have been following you for quite a while now and I'd be interested in knowing the processes you go through when entering a new country (for us mere mortals who haven't experience what you go through). For example, what forward planning and organising, paperwork, berthing (etc.) - this could be a BONUS video edition ha ha.
Hi. When arriving there are formalities at customs and immigration. Boats papers, passport and insurance are shown. In most modern countries it's simple. But yes, good idea for a video. Cheers.
Just stumbled on your vlogs and while watching felt like I was with you every step of the way so glad you made it to land I was routing for you every step of the way. I guess you have to be slightly nuts to make a journey like that in a boat that small but can’t wait to catch up on all your other vlogs your a fecking legend !!
23:01 "YEA BABAY!" ™️old sea dog
🌬️💨⛵🤙🏼🙏🏻
Many thanks, Seadog. I've seen so many of your videos I feel like you're an old friend.
Wow, that video sure told a story. This has to be one of the best sailing videos I've ever seen.
Barry, I really enjoy your videos in spite of your poor relationship with the weather. Hoist some sail and lay Shadow over and mitigate the flop flopping around. YEAAAAaaaa Baby, enjoy a cold one my friend.
Yeaaaaaman !
"place hasn't changed much" You crack me up mate! congrats for another landfall.
Thank you for speak so slowly and clear for those who do not speak English very well. I liked your history especially because I am machine engineer, but I have been on earth for too long and I miss the sea
Oooo nothing nicer than a forgotten Portuguese egg custard 😋
Barry, LOVE IT when you show the tricks you do with the lines & poles !!

I so enjoy your adventures! You don't stay in one place for years and island hop. You are an original salty sailor!
Great episode! Really one of my favourites...that takes some courage to blue water sail in a small sailboat....hearty applause from me!

Another entertaining video. Thank you for sharing the adventure. Glad you made it safely.
I love the hotdog burial at sea. Sent off to the almighty Oscar Meyer in the sky with a simple “no”.
You'll be pleased to know you can buy those custards in Lidl now. I've never been sailing in my life but I am really enjoying your videos.
I'm starting to worry that, when you reach the Caribbean, it will be cold and rainy.... that weather seems to follow you wherever you go.
Glad somebody else noticed that!
You're one of my favorites! Keep up the great work.
He's a ThunderGod. .
