The Indian! It's the hardest but it's an incredible experience. Remember the old Māori saying : Don't turn your back on the sea. I look forward very much to hearing about it. I wish you fair winds and a straight wake!
Barry - Outstanding view on the marina situation for insurance. You are one of a very few RUclips channels that will point out the negative bureaucracy of sailing around the world. Most other sailing RUclips channels are pitiful about pointing out any negative experiences. Especially when it comes to customs and immigration bureaucracy. They are doing a disservice to sailing. Good luck on your big crossing of the Indian ocean and we will hear from you when you get to the other side.
@Adam-gm5tm all the information is available on their website. But its the marinas responsibility that he didn't look all that up beforehand..... interesting 😂
Hello from SV Dulcinea! West coast of US heading to Mexico. Long time watchers who are following in your wind paths. We wish you fair winds and following seas on your Indian Ocean crossing! Thanks for the heads up on Carin’s. With you in our hearts! Brad and Robin
The ANCHORING AREA you're in near the Marina is called the SKATING POND as boats all face in different directions. Here's the LAT/LON of the BEST anchoring spot well up Chinaman Creek. 16°56'44.78"S, 145°47'18.36"E KNOW that you've most likely LEFT CAIRNS (pronounced CANS) by now...but this may help others. Great CHANDLERY just around the corner to the PORT side facing seaward. 16°56'58.53"S, 145°46'19.99"E location where you can tie up your DINGHY. Chandlery is short walking distance from here.
Been thinking about how and where you are! Good to see you so well. Prayers in your direction Barry….we’ll be longing to see you again! Happy crossing….
Good news, after about 60 days of navigation, the Old Sea Dog just arrived today on septembre 2, 2024 at the Reunion island. Yes, the message on this video was right, the Old Sea Dog is back but it took him and White Shadow a bit longer than 6 weeks to cross the Indian Ocean.
He's not "back", these videos are not in real time - he is singlehanding in faraway places without internet access, and needs to be in a port to edit and upload videos.
Whoa, all across the Indian Ocean, what an adventure! I solute your bravery, Barry! You are such an inspiration for so many of us. From the bottom of my heart, all the best to you! And never forget: fortune favors the bold!
Barry, I have been watching for several years now. Greatly enjoy each and every episode. Be safe and look forward to seeing your crossing of the Indian Ocean.
Congratulations on being two thirds around Barry! Be safe and remember to clip onto Shaddy every time you’re on deck. Don’t want Shaddy sailing off without you!
Safe travels across the Indian Ocean Barry. Look forward to following your adventure once across. Stay safe. Your followers are right behind you. Cheers from NZ 🍻
thanks for the video. I'm a green skipper and love all the sailing adventures. I hope your leg is not too much trouble for the long passage ahead. Stay safe
A bit of insight to the insurance dilemma. If people are not fully covered they have tendency to dump their loss at the marinas or close to them and flee the town or country. Yet how often does it happen and is it worth losing the business? Ask them
Hi Barry. Great to hear you again. What a shame about Cairns. Never mind their loss. The Indian Ocean like you said is massive, so don’t get lost. Stay safe Barry, look forward to catching up in 6 weeks.
I wish you a very safe trip crossing the big Indian Ocean, waiting very much news from your long trip all alone well with white shadow of course, good luck mate .
Capt'n Barry ... You Old Seadog, another adventure awaits .. I not only look forward to each posting on RUclips but also enjoy your commentary about the port you're in but also where the next destination will be .. The Indian Ocean is a long pull from where you are, as you no doubt recognize .. I wish you fair winds and smooth seas on your journey .. Stay well, watch and tend to your leg, and we'll look forward to the next episode in a couple of months .. All the best from this "old5andimer" in sub-tropical SW Florida ..
Barry! Landlocked Vermont USA sailor, you got me through Covid and all these cold winters! I wish you safe journey and cannot wait to see the next videos!!! Fair winds!
As regards your insurance, many marinas require you to have comprehensive cover. In your case, you could upgrade your cover whilst in the marina, and then, when you leave, revert to TPF&T. If you anchor too close to a mooring, and someone picks up the mooring, expect to have to move, it is your fault that you anchored too close. It is well known that the anchorage opposite Marlin Marina is, at best patchy. One part is known as the Skating Rink for good reason. We draw 2.2m and we get in and out of Yorkeys Knob quite easily, so I do not know why you feel you are not able to get in. They are very friendly and helpful.
My favourite thing about you, Barry, is the way you always manage to squeeze some fun out of a yukky situation. Nasty weather, nastier marina, stupid close-moorers, and then, hey a rainbow! And you’re all smiles again. Safe voyaging to you.
You need full comprehensive insurance throughout Australia. Every Marina I have been in, in Australia wants Full Comprehensive. Does third party, cover salvage? i stayed on a pile mooring in this area and it was fantastic. Also all the staff at Marlin Marina were fantastic. Helping us out when a yacht snapped its mooring lines and came to rest on us. They had staff out in a Jiffy. Maybe a bit more research before you enter a Port and where the best places are to anchor. (There is a lot out there about Cairns) I'd say you just had a bad few days and a bit of perspective next time instead of slagging off something, when it didn't suit, may not be the best way to go. Fair travels.
Good on yer, Barry!! Us Oscar Foxtrots have to show these youngsters a thing or two. I look forward to seeing you back after your crossing the pond, and wish you fair winds for your trip.
So sorry perry about your missed adventures. We're going to miss you for a while But. Take care and god bless you. Most everything has their positives and Negatives. Take care of be safe and look forward to you coming back.❤
Well done Barry for pointing out Marlin Marina. People need to give that place the wide berth,,, Fair winds and a safe passage my friend, see you in 6 weeks ⚔️⚔️⚔️

Have a wonderful trip Barry! I wish you all the luck! Greetings from a sailor that is a bit tired after a 12 hours sail along the west coast of Sweden. I need to up my game :)
We are wishing safe travels to the old Seadog & Shaddy! YOU CAN DO IT BARRY! There is no doubt in any of our minds! Can't wait to see you again in South Africa!!! YOU GOT THIS!🍺🍻🍺
Heading off to sea for two months with a throbbing infection in your leg and when you reach your destination you will be a white European in South Africa. You're a braver man than I. Good luck Barry.
@@scottmichaels12 Probably should have had his leg looked at before leaving. He might have another infection in it. (Yes, I am a nurse) Should have at least gotten it checked and taken some preventative antibiotics ahead of time.
Safe travels 🙏 looking forward to your next one, fair winds Barry ( the sea master ) I don't know what has happened to the weather, this is the worst season in 35 years of sailing
Be safe Barry , I hope you have a great sail across the Indian Ocean and hope to see you again 🙏😏👍 safe travels with the wind at your back and your sails are flying high and full! Good luck
Great episode as usual. Looking forward to the passage videos. Make them long and in many parts :D they are always a treat. Also making a note to avoid Snooty Marlin Marina if I ever go back there.
Bloody marvelous, im old enough to remember the advert GO TO WORK ON AN EGG , this lovely young bugger had three and able to sail across the I.O. 😊 I've only seen a couple of your ventures and what I've seen so far is beyond me, i was trembling when you got rescued when engine took the huff in that monster storm therefore im more than positive you will overcome everything mother nature throws at you, wish i could be with you but it would spoil the solo bit ,also im as much good as a concrete parashute on a yacht. All the best from Scotland ❤
Great video! I hope you have a safe voyage across the Indian Ocean, be careful! We would love to see more videos of you and Shady! I guess Ron is making the same voyage? Stay safe from the east coast of Canada 🇨🇦 🙏
Queensland requires wreck recovery and almost every marina in Australia will require full comprehensive because with third party only the insurance companies weasel out of the wreck recovery if you sink in the marina. Case in point we have a sunk boat here at Newport that’s been here for 6 months that the insurance company won’t remove!
PS: you’ve had a good run if you’ve got in anywhere in Australia and especially Queensland on 3rd party. Why not flip the question and let us know which marinas accepted 3rd party only?
Sorry you had to miss out on all the fun Cairns has to offer, like a boat trip up the Daintree river, taking the Kuranda sky train into the rain forest to visit the butterfly sanctuary, zoo, and spectacular Barron falls, as well as make a trip out to the great barrier reef. Cairns would do well to annex that marina, change management, and make it more inviting. Wishing you a great voyage.
Yes I agree about all those missed adventures. I was lucky to get to Cairns a few years ago and follow those tourist spots you mentioned, plus a few extra by car that my son showed me. We did see the Marina as our transport to Green Island left from there. However at that time I was a mere landlubber tourist and had no idea how badly blue water sailors are treated there. As an Aussie I'm deeply ashamed that Cairns doesn't welcome blue water sailors.
Hi Dog! Been following you since Spain when you bought Shaddy! Wishing you Fair winds and following seas on your crossing! Best wishes from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 ⛵️

Won't go into Marlin Marina and will let our Bluewater members know in our newsletter. Also suggest Noonsite be updated. I will if you don't.
Sounds to me like Marlin Marina has discovered a way to exclude everyone other than the seriously wealthy.
Right I won't
Just say you can't afford it 😂
@@themoonhurtsdaddy
I guess you missed the part where Barry was refused entry!
I would not give that marina another opportunity to do that to me.
@Adam-gm5tm all the information is available on their website. But its the marinas responsibility that he didn't look all that up beforehand..... interesting 😂
"I've got too much sail up and I don't care!".
Sounds like a great life philosophy.
