Chemistry Experiment to try at home - Copper patina

Attach a 9V batter to aluminum foil (negative terminal) and a penny (+ terminal) sitting on baking soda solution soaked into a paper towel. The penny will form the copper patina that we recognize from the statue of liberty. This experiment is safe to try at home as long as you have a pair of safety goggles.
Once you've formed the patina successfully, try a variation on the experiment to see how the amount or color changes. pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/...
