You easily could have been a concert pianist. You make this incredibly difficult piece look so effortless the way you play it and you also play it beautifully never letting the piece get away from you. Thanks for sharing this.
The thing is competition. There are so many absolutely brilliant pianists who will never make it as concert pianists. Judges are brutal, they have to be. But if you are not coming at least 3rd consistently in the big competitions, no chance. It's a bit silly really. Humans turn everything into war.
Not that he is not good, but there are many in the world who can play as well, if not better than him. Being a concert pianist is a very difficult job. You may think it's easy, seeing how some of the top tier concert pianists who make it look easy. But there are many more who are laboring in the middle tier. And they can all play as well as Paul.
In terms of expression, emotion, he is really small pianist, listen to Arthur Rubinstein the difference between AR and this guy is millions and millions
Paul, Paul, Paaaauuul... You are an inspiration. There are no words to describe, for we mere mortals, the grace, skill and dexterity you bring to every performance.
My dearest Paul, this performance is frankly heavenly. The pitiful human mind cannot comprehend this outstanding performance. Your level of playing transcends all of us mere mortals. Your dexterity is biblical and your technique is sensational. All of us must look up to you as a God, and that’s the least we can do.
Paul Barton I have grown to appreciate and he has possibly set the standard for all those who want to play the great and popular piano pieces requiring great technical skill. Paul does this very effectively with his modest approach explaining all details of the piece ,how he approaches it and then always rendering a flawless clean perfectly finished product. He does mostly Chopin where he is an expert . One could always learn from him much for free or pay someone like him over 100.00 dollars a lesson. Thank you Paul
This is absolutely incredible... seeing your stubby fingers flowing would have undoubtedly impressed Chopin, who wrote this for his own freakishly long and agile fingers
this sounds so... unfazed. when I play this piece I feel like a madman trying not to miss a note or cadence or crescendo, but this sounds so controlled and easy.
@@davidenalini8371 This looks pretty unedited though. Yeah, he got to pick the best of the bunch of recordings, but you can tell he's got this piece down pretty damn solidly
Thank you, Mr. Barton. I'm a beginner from Taiwan who started to play at age 32. I find your video very informative and helpful! I always try to imitate the way you play. You have the best interpretations of many pieces I love!!
My dearest Pauuuul..... tell me are you really human? For your artistry, your kindness, your pianism, your goodness... in short...your PERFECTION is something so out of the world! I have nothing to say... just pray to God to always keep you happy... may he fulfill all your desires... PAUL I just wish all the good things in this world for you... Lots of love from India...
6:00 omg I always thought that I was supposed to use my left hand for both the octave notes. Btw beautiful performance, the expression was similar to Krystian Zimerman.
Paul, you are a truly gift for musicians on RUclips! Not only musicians I'd say, but specially for us! Thank you so much for your videos, performances, lessons and everything. You are an amazing pianist and an incredible teacher as well, I'd love to study with you! Please, never stop uploading!
I used to think that this was nearly impossible just from trying to sight read the sheet music. but picking up some technique from your video gives me a boost of confidence
jesus christ, this was mind blowing. i've known this piece for years but finally seeing the notes and someone play it... that was just on another level.
I really love the ballade nb 2. Nb 2 is probably my favorite piece (or one of my fav). I usually don't see many people talking about it for some reason
The microphone you are recording with is phenomenal, and the interpretation, very clear and pure, it makes me want to return to the piano... in a serious way. but well, in a third world country there's very hard to find a legit good teacher to help me with my technique, just watching your finger reminded me on how relaxed and flexible I have to be, thank you SO much, for bringing me back those memories :')
I was told one time that it isn’t about making a piece seem hard it’s about making it seem easy and you do that and it gives me hope that soon I can learn this
This is amazing, demystifying all this technical works, Thanks so much for the selfess-ness, and a big thank you to the patreons too to facilitate these.
you are a genius and I mean it. I've followed you chopin's 8th prelude tutorial some years ago and I managed to play the piece almost easily. Now this is my favourite piece of music since I'm 14 years old (35 now) and I decided to finally start practicing it. It's a bit terrifying, but now that I found out that you made a tutorial on this one I dare to try. Thanks so much!
Your videos always succeed in sprucing up my day. That cheery, light-hearted approach to music never fails in lifting my spirits. And as always a masterful rendition👌👌
I’m not a pianist by any stretch of the imagination, but I like to tinker a bit. I just want to say that I find this tutorial unusual and fascinating! Thank you!
My favorite Ballade that made me want to play piano and after years of saying "it looks hard". I finally made it happen thanks to you kind sir! Thank you for this tutorial, performance and hand-notated! It's a gift! +1 like/sub
Maestro P.Barton , You play Wonderful the Piano , I see olways is videos , I Like very he is técnica . Perdón por mi poco Inglés , I AM Mexicana 🇲🇽 💓👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗😁🎹🎼🎵🎶💞
What a wonderful way to hear/see so much of this piece (as a listener)! thank you Paul....my brother played this often, with great emotion. Your video brings me back to my brothers great interpretation of this great composer. Ross
I love this channel and I really hate to criticize anybody. But since it's supposed to be a lesson, I just must write this. There are some wrong notes you have learned in the past, like left hand 6.58, right hand 7.01, 7.09 etc. This channel is awesome anyway.
The passage at 7:59 is so beautiful but at the same time, so insanely difficult. Not in terms of technique, I mean. Only the rubinstein's version had me shiver to it ! Like, it has to be smooth but regular. But not mechanic. Pretty great performance. And each time I'm seeing one, I can't believe I achieved to learn that too !
This might just be the best piano piece ever created.
maybe best ballad。
Yeah
And the most difficult and virtuous. So much that to play it decently has to have a very high grade.
agree
It's between this and la Campanella for me.
This is SO GENEROUS! A tutorial, a marked score...wow. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I look forward to learning this with your help.
did you learn it?
You easily could have been a concert pianist. You make this incredibly difficult piece look so effortless the way you play it and you also play it beautifully never letting the piece get away from you. Thanks for sharing this.
As far as I remember from a documentary, he used to be a concert pianist

I just don't get how you are not a concert pianist touring around the world, you just play like a pro I have no words
He has priorities. Being a concert pianist and go on a tour is apparently not one of them
The thing is competition. There are so many absolutely brilliant pianists who will never make it as concert pianists. Judges are brutal, they have to be. But if you are not coming at least 3rd consistently in the big competitions, no chance. It's a bit silly really. Humans turn everything into war.

Sometimes I prefer an Amateur's performance of a Beethoven sonata versus a Concert Pianist.
In terms of expression, emotion, he is really small pianist, listen to Arthur Rubinstein the difference between AR and this guy is millions and millions
9:50 this part is so beautiful that it's literally inhumane that anyone could've thought of this
kind of reminds me of beethoven’s appassionata
@De St i think he meant inhuman

I am LOVING the annotated score! Thank you so much for this extremely educational tutorial

Lovely. It' s the one that was played on the Pianist movie when the German soldier found the Jewish pianist. It was so beautiful.
Paul Barton: I Love your teaching ability, the immense artistry in your person. Congratulations

Ooffff....up in Alaska, making wine and playing Chopin. Doesn't get any better than that.
