That was the clearest most concise performance of that piece I’ve ever heard I think I could hear every single note. It was slower than most others but it was very powerful and I heard things in this performance I’ve never heard of anyone else’s
Otherworldly. A most lovely performance. Now near 80 but memories of my childhood lying under my mother's grand Steinway listening to her play Chopin. You are simply masterful in every performance I have listened to on your channel...thank you.
Yes: very lovely, and... exactly the same for me! I hear my mother playing...
What a wonderful memory
how’s it going big guy?
Hello! I hope you're well!
I totally agree with the comment of how clear and clean this is compared to other versions...every note can be heard. No excessive rubato. Love this.
Listening to this motivates me to continually improve on piano, even if this piece may be out of my reach.
Dear M. Barton,
I've been listening to this Ballade thousands of times ................... the half with my father, playing it so much ... and the rest with Horowitz, Argerich, François, etc, etc ....
But you make it different.
I don't know how to explain ..... (but is this necessary ?)
You are playing these pieces (not only the Ballade, but also Beethoven, Schubert) which are full of pain and anguish as you would "wash" it out of every sorrow and fear ....
This is amazing ...... your soul must be very pure to do that work ..... I am deeply impressed ... as to hear a good new (at least) coming from a friendly Angel.
(and also because my own life has been a painful repertoire of sufferings and missings, you can perhaps understand why I am particularly moved by your music)
(please forgive me for my bad and approximative english , but it is not [as you can see with my name] my native language)
Thank you so much with this "new" art to play the piano, and God bless you (but it is already done ...)
Respectfully and with kind regards,
Fritz.
Thanks for all of the tutorials, and now we all get the honour to hear a performance of this amazing work.
Than you you so much!
Thanks, Leon, you are very kind.
Paul Barton
you are more than welcome!
I am only 12 but the ballade is my favourite piece and I hope to try it after learning some etudes ( probably op.25 no.2 first, followed by op.25 no.12 and op.25 no.5)
Thanks again, for the amazing tutorials and the performance!
I can guarantee that your hard, hard work of preparation and performing has not gone to waste, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that.
Dear Paul Barton, I found your channel less than a month ago and have been delighted in everything you do. And flabbergasted. And thankful for your immense generosity of publishing these interpretations here. I have the feeling that you are getting better and better even though some years ago you were already as good as most concert pianists I've watched live or listened to on record. I know all Chopin and have had for many years my own favorite interpretations for each of my very well defined 30 favorite works by Chopin. You just accomplished that this Ballade has joined those 30. I have to listen to other performances now, since I can't understand why this wasn't already among them. Thank you! (And I'm looking forward to watch/listen you play Chopin's Berceuse.)
Hi Luis -- you are very kind to say such encouraging things - I must get out the Berceuse ...
"Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art." (Chopin)
And you have been definitely rewarded for your talent of playing the piano!
Paul, I don’t think I I’ve ever heard anyone else play this Ballade as good as you have in this video. Excellent!
i love how he voices the hidden rh melody in the coda and emphasises the bottom note of the bass. some great playing!
Hi Paul. It is only now that I found this little corner of the internet with so many gems. Your music. Your family. Art in many forms. Nature and your huge friends enjoying your playing. Kindness and pleasure. Countless amazing people. A little girl preparing canvasses and editing video's. A doll house. Amazing, the versatility and quality. Your video's have been on my menu all week, and I look forward to this pleasure of being there with you and your friends for many years to come. Thanks!
Finally, we have been waiting for this
I hope, Mr. Barton, I shall not offend you if I state quite frankly and openly that this seems to me to be in every way the audible personification of absolute perfection.....
It's a very thoughtful and beautifully measured performance, Paul.
Thanks, Phillip!
Wonderfull 👏 made me cry
Woww! Your presto con fuoco at the end is just amazing!!!
I really love your playing. It’s like every sound is alive and talk to me.
Since the first video i saw from you i knew you had an *EXCEPTIONAL TASTE* to create emotion when playing piano, thank you for uploading this piece, it's my favorite one and the one that inspired me to learn piano, your rendition is now my Top 1!
Awesome playing !!!!

Maxime

The timing and tempo have to very precise to play it the way Chopin intended it. Fortunately, Paul nailed it!
Very generous performance and tutorial! Thank You Paul Barton!
beautifully played, as always, Paul!
Thanks, Just Music!
Wow. 1st.rate pianist tutor and artist .A great help and inspiration to me as a 2nd study RCM pianist and painter in oils! Also love your affinity with the animals .Thank you Paul
Great job Paul, that's one of my favorite pieces of Chopin.
Bravo, Paul! Happy holidays to you and your family. Keep playing your heart out to the world!
I'm currently learning this, and that scherzo section is gonna be hell.
Yes 😅 it took me over 2 weeks to learn it
One of my favourites of Chopin, and a wonderful performance to go with it too!
I only wish one day I can play this I really struggle with the arpeggios :( . Awesome video Paul I love this Song And you play it wonderfully :)
slow and steady so you hands can get that memory muscle, itll take awhile but worth the grind! Hope in the past 4 years youve achieved some great feats
You are amazing Paul
My wonderful brother played this piece. Such human emotion. Where did Chopin come from??? Your great too....love your piano and recordings as well. Ross

Jason - Lee That is a brilliant ideia. I love that piece!
YESSSS

Just amazing.
Brilliant, as always.
I personally would play it with more pedal, but very good Paul!
You can't play this piece ? Or just you prefer with more pedal ?
Lovely clean ubterpretation. Don't know if I would have punchrd that high note at 3:10 quite so hard, it comes across rather abrubtly. Feurich sounds beautiful.
YES FINALLY its my most favorite piece ever
beautiful Napels in last con fuoco section!
La música echa poesía no habido ninguno con tanto sentimiento con un piano
Woow! Amazing...... Bravo maestro!!
Beyond bravo!!!
Waiting for you to post tutorials on the other ballades

Amazing.
Уважаемый мистер Barton, спустя 5 лет после публикации этого видео, каково Ваше мнение о продукции Feurich? Какое место Вы бы отвели фортепиано от Feurich среди ведущих производителей?
Nice...
I need to know why this version is so lacking. Your original on an upright piano was phenomenal. One of the best and I commented that at the time. I used that version as my reference to review sections I was learning. How did I find this version so cold and heartless? Kind of clean and technical but I really could not get in to it.
The best performance I’ve seen so far. I finally found one that I really enjoy. Thank you so much, you did an amazing job!
🕊✨✨Thank you ✨
Bravo j'adore l'interprétation cette ballade est sans aucun doute ma préférerais ! I Combien de temps avez vous mis pour la joué parfaitement ? ^_^
Cursed Rainbow Bon courage alors ! xD surtout à la fin xD
Can you do a tutorial for Chopin's Nocturne opus 48 No 2? I would greatly appreciate it

Maravilhoso, muito lindo
Bravo!🎹🎵🎼🎶🎹
Superb
Wow beautiful. How do you memorise all of that? Do you have a video on memorisation?
Memorisation won't be an issue, so don't worry about it.
bravo!
wild
One reason this song is so emotional and special to me is because it makes me think of The Pianist whenever I hear it...
It's very understandable
Finally!
Divino
genial idolo
S U P E R B !!!!

Lindo !
I’m currently only taking my ABRSM Grade 6. I will be back
I’d love to know what exactly those nine people didn’t like.
👌
🌹🌹🌹💓
This interpretation it's better than Horowitz
Your Lie in April, anyone?
PrimeArtOnline - Piano Covers Yup
No.
PrimeArtOnline - Piano Covers Please no...
This is my last favourite ballade and I don't know why. Yet everyone seems to love it. 😑😐
welp....Ballade no 4 in F minor is my favourite. I respect your opinion and I'm too buzzed to think of a rebuke, but Chopin's heart and soul speaks loudest in this one, in G minor. If heaven is a thing, this is probly what I'm gonna hear on my way up there
yeah, mine is 4th too. probably because the 1st is very well known and the 4th one is not that popular.
Donkey Punch Knock-Out I am ashamed to say that I do have favourite works but Chopin: I love the second ballade in F; the polonaise op 71 in F minor; the Barcarolle in F#; the posthumous polonaise in G flat, which was probably not really written by him; the sonata in B minor; the prelude in D major; the nocturne in Eb opus 55 no 2; and waltz op 42 in Ab. I know they are some unusual choices. ☺
I think it's a bit due to the fact that this song featured in an amazing musical Anime, and fans have a lot of emotions attached to this particular piece.
@@shivaranjanmenon1543 1- Its not a song.
2- Please, dont reduce Chopin's very favorite work to some anime.
This PIECE is well-known since Chopin's age. The movie "The Pianist" also introduced many non-classical people to it.

CHE ..LA MEDIOCRITA'..!!!
At 2:45 he plays in octave lower then what is written, and it sounds so cool :) im gonna play it like him.
@@matthew3977 yaa :)
No he doesn't 😅
@@mischaelsnerthat passage he plays sounds a lot different from everyone else compare it. either way its really cool.
@@almightykeys4734 well either way it's written like that. But I totally agree with you!
That piano lacks of soul in my opinion
I think its Paul that lacked more pedaling... thats a Feurich Vienna 3/4 Grand, great instrument.
