This was more satisfying to me than the 1976 Super Bowl. No one expected the Raiders to make it that far with Plunkett. What a great underdog story when he also went on to win the Super Bowl again 3 years later!
Todd Christensen will always be one of my all time favorite players and Raiders, I absolutely loved the 1980 Oakland Raiders, Jim Plunkett, Kenny King, Cliff Branch, Lester Hayes, Rod Martin and Mark Van Eeghen and countless others on that great team, It was so awesome to see Tom Flores finally get in the Pro football Hall of Fame, Much Deserved and long overdue, I also love the theme song you're using, "I can't tell you why" by the Eagles, Great song, Great video, Love your work!
Nice! I was eleven years old. Good to watch all of these games with network clips instead of film, including Dallas’ last game in their old blue jerseys.
As a kid my parents had these old encyclopedias that had a sports section. I would study all the records of each NFL teams and would try and memorize all the playoff scores. So now going back and seeing exactly how those scores of these games end up is cool :)
Unlike the Falcons, The Eagles allowed no predictible winning comeback from the Cowboys. Two of the most heartbreaking losses in Falcon history, were dramatic comebacks by the Cowboys in playoff games. In '78, Falcons knocked Roger Staubach out of the game, but Danny White to Drew Pearson killed them. Then, of course, this 1980 Divisional Playoff. I enjoyed how the Philly crowd roared their approval of the home team knocking the Cowboys around in that NFC Championship. The Cowboys were despised by Falcon fans for many years afterwards. Meant to say, in the comments section on another of your vids, that I had subscribed.
For the Chargers this really was their chance to play in a Super Bowl. They had the AFC championship game at home with that crowd atmosphere. Then they just crapped the bed in the first half against the Raiders. Then when they did come back, the defense couldn't make that one last stand to get the ball back to their offense. The next year against the Bengals in the championship game, the Bengals were just the better team. They knew how to play in the extreme cold and Dan Fouts passes were like a duck compared to Ken Anderson's passes that his receivers caught. After 1982 where they lost to Miami, that was it for Air Coryell and the Chargers until Bobby Ross lead the Chargers back to the playoffs in 1992.
@coogan8825 they had a great pass rusher in Fred Dean, but once he went to the 49ers in 1981 as their final puzzle piece, the Chargers defense just got worse.
Chargers where real lucky to beat the Bills. They had chocked to the Oliers in 1979. In the Falcon Cowboy game I started the rooting for the Cowboys. By the 4th qt I was pulling for Falcons to hold on to the lead. I was 15 I didn't know the hell I was doing.
This was the only time in a non-strike year that both Conference Championship games had participants from the same division. Also the first time a SB winner defeated a team that had beaten them in the regular season. I lived in a suburb adjacent to Cleveland and all fans kept saying before the Raider game was "Oh we'll win, it's going to be really cold." Well they lost because they could not trust a field goal attempt at the open end of Municipal Stadium and went for the touchdown. Why no field goal attempt at the open end of Municipal Stadium? Because it was really cold. In that wildcard win over the Oilers, Ray Guy had his greatest day as a punter.
If QB Joe Ferguson was not injured, the Bills would defeat easily the Chargers, then proceed to dismantle the Raiders in the AFC Conference Championship and would win the SB XV. 1980 Bills were the best team in the NFL, they have the best Defense and a good Offense
@@ElYahvecinLang definitely, but interestingly enough ppl say LT is the best to ever wear the Chargers Uni I’m gonna say Seau , LT , Rivers Gates , Winslow is my top five. And with a much weaker team Seau takes that squad to the Super Bowl while Rivers , Fouts couldn’t get it done with much stronger teams. Second best team in Charger history was this team best team I think was the 07 team. This was a much better team than the 94’ squad.
I'm sorry, but since no one elese is doing it, I'll point out that you cut off key plays in every one of these. In '81, it was the catch by Clark of SF, and this year it was the interception in the OAK-CLE game.
Strange post season.the two best teams were Atlanta and Cleveland. If Cleveland had beat Oakland, SD would have had to play the browns on the road. Same w Philadelphia which would have had to travel to Atlanta.
@@ElYahvecinLang strange doesn’t come to mind. More like very boring. I’ve watched every SB since 9 and Oakland Philadelphia is definitely in my top five most boring. Even some of the blowouts had a story line to keep you interested. That’s game had nothing.

Yes, and Atlanta had already beaten the Eagles in Philly earlier in the year. The NFC title game would have been in Atlanta. That Dallas loss was a huge disappointment. Atlanta outplayed them the for 3 quarters and went conservative on offense and Dallas came back on them
The Super Steelers are done now. And in '81. The leftover remnants appear in '82 and '83 playoffs. Only to go one and done. I like watching the teams go 'POOF' in the playoff bracket. Too funny.
@@ElYahvecinLang Nope. One afc title game in '84 with Cliff Stoudt as qb is it. Ouch. The price for losing that game...the qb Steelers passed on in '83 draft Marino beat them.
@@stevenbauer4799 Actually Stoudt left the Steelers after '83 to play in the USFL, to add insult to injury. Mark Malone was the QB that led the Steelers in '84 to upset the Broncos before getting blown out in Miami.

the falcons even blew leads back in 1980 how surprising
It´s a historical thing
I remember watching that game as a kid. Atlanta pulled off a real choke job.

The Bay Area had back to back Super Bowl winners. The Raiders in 1980, and the 49ers in 1981
