As a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, I was so happy and absolutely overjoyed that the Oakland Raiders beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 15 two weeks after the Eagles beat the Cowboys in the 1980-81 NFC championship game. And I was truly glad for Raider quarterback, Jim Plunkett who had some rough times with the Patriots and the 49ers in tge mid to late 1970s. Plus he and the Rajders stomped the Redskins in Super Bowl 18 that brought me even .ore joy and happiness !!!!! LOL !!!!!
Fondly recall that year. It was my first year of voting. For me it was the ending of a great time in football. Love the game from the 70s and early 80s.
Me too ! I was born in 62 and have been a Raiders fan since I was 8 years old. Those were definitely the best years for the NFL as a whole. Great memories 👍☠️
I absolutely remember this 1980 season. It was this season that began to really get into watching football. I truly remember all of these games. Thank GOD, In The Name Of JESUS for these memories 🙏
Born in 1994 but I absolutely love football can't have enough of it. Love seeing the history of the league. Thank you for the upload. Greatly appreciate it.
@Coogan real football what you mean by that? Because of the hits that was placed? But I watch all film of football I love it all. Can't say I love something if I didn't go back and watch the history up into it's present day.
Absolute Classic football! Ahmad Rashad nabbing that last-second pass vs Cleveland, The Tyler Rose, bulldozing his way carrying three tacklers, and leaving a trail of them behind, periennally poor teams, like Buffalo Atlanta and Philadelphia becoming serious challengers and division winners, and a calvalcade of incredible athletes. Fans that went to games got more than their money's worth.
The single most competitive season in NFL history. There were seven legitimate teams that could've won the Super Bowl with the right matchups (Raiders, Chargers, Bills, Browns, Eagles, Cowboys, Falcons).
In fact, you could make the argument that every team that made the playoffs that season, with the exception of the Vikings, could have won the Super Bowl, had things fallen their way, including the Oilers and Rams, who lost in the Wild Card round (the Rams lost to a Cowboys team in the WC round that they had crushed just a few weeks earlier). Of the ten teams that qualified for the post-season that year, all but the Vikings had records of either 12-4 or 11-5 (all five AFC playoff teams had 11-5 records), and even the Vikings had the Eagles on the ropes in the second quarter of their NFC Divisional Playoff match-up.
Hell the Patriots could have won the Super Bowl that year and they didn’t even make the playoffs. Led the AFC in scoring and point differential but had two stupid losses at the end of the season that cost them dearly.
@@cjs83172 Oilers had no chance of a Super Bowl or even beating the Raiders. They ran the simplest offense in the Super Bowl era and with #00 Ken Burrough out most of the season, their passing game was pedestrian in the extreme. I think it was Lester Hayes who said the Oilers offense ran the simplest offense he had ever seen.
@@NosferatusCoffin Drawing the one team that knew their QB more than any other didn't exactly help their cause, either. The Raiders knew Ken Stabler like a book, having faced him in practice for nearly a decade prior to the QB swap that sent him to Houston and Dan Pastorini to Oakland, where he was pretty much a disaster, and the team knew it. Truth was, the Raiders were probably the best team, certainly in the AFC, as they'd won 9 of 11 just to get into the playoffs, easily defeated the Oilers and then allowed each of their next three opponents (Cleveland, San Diego, and Philadelphia in the Super Bowl) to beat themselves, and then pick up the pieces of what was left behind. But what happened in that playoff match-up with the Raiders was also a foreshadow of the coming collapse of the Oilers, as within two seasons, they'd be one of the worst teams in the NFL.
@@NosferatusCoffinLester Hayes apparently never played against the Chicago Bears of that era, who were even more basic and lacked any deep threats. It is a simple game if you have RB like Campbell or Payton, but at least Oilers had 2 legitimate deep threats and a QB. Imagine the Bears with Payton, Bo Rather and Bob Avellini…
LOL Matusak sacked Jaworski so many times he can tell what cologne he's wearing! Fun fact: #44 for the Raiders is Burgess Owens, who is now a U.S. Congressman.
No punt attended to Jim Plunkett but I thought Rod Martin should've been SUPER BOWL XV MVP with his 3 INTS with one setting up a RAIDERS drive the other stopping an EAGLES drive
was he touched then the ground caused the fumble. I'm not sure. I thought the ground can cause a fumble if ball carrier was not touched before he went down to the ground.
How about OAK DE John Matuszak. That has gotta be the mark of a great lineman he taking up so much of a ball carrier or opposing player's airspace that he can astutely recall each person's distinct fragrance. Talk about not letting up, a motor that is always going, putting a body on him, I mean at least breathe on somebody, using all five senses as a point of contact he probably could tell you who is next to him with a blindfold on based off their smell maybe even find them if you give a shirt like a bloodhound and that is what you wanna see from a DE. The man is an absolute dog just sniff, whiff, and go get 'em. I hope a few edge rushers are watching his highlights.
1980 was a fun season that deserved a better ending. New blood like Buffalo, Cleveland, Atlanta, Philadelphia? Nope. Yet another boring Oakland rerun that nobody outside of Raider fans cheered. It was the 6th time in 7 years OAK or PIT won the SB.
in the video segment on season and playoff highlights, i do not recall exactly why the Browns went to the end zone when a FG would win it? Conditions looked bad and I recall a Browns game from the Sipe era where the kicker kept missing easy kicks, but i thought that was against the jets and went to OT? But wow, what a seemingly bad decision, or at least throw the ball out of the end zone, it wasn’t close. I guess I can see taking a shot to score but it has to be clear that it’s either a wide open throw or it goes out the back of the end zone. Raiders should have never made it to the Superbowl, just a bunch of lucky, cheating, mafia front men. The Ayotollah was a Raiders fan.
Why can't everything be as great as NFL Films?...I'm never disappointed
I grew up watching this classic footage of NFL football with NFL music playing in the background.... I love it as a kid
Was born in ‘89 but love to watch classic NFL footage. Thanks for uploading.

watch this, and then try to watch today's NFL.
I can't. NFL sucks now.
The NFL was awesome and still is. The one thing we can count on. It’s always the best thing on TV.
Yea it's unbearable compared to the glory days of the game.
Today’s NFL is scripted just like the WWE and it’s pretty obvious when you go back and watch these old videos.
Unfortunately tv football isn’t going away anytime soon.

Ed Sabol and Steve Sabol their dead now but I loved NFL Films growing up because of these guys.
George Washington is dead now, but I think he was a great president
I think the real Pence is dead.
Trump is still with us he was a great president
Jim Plunkett.....put this man in the Hall Of Fame...Please
Mark Van Eeghan really preformed well in the playoffs in 1980
22:25 to 22:58 still gives me goosebumps. What an intro!
And for good reason, America welcomed 52 Americans that were held hostage.

Just win baby. On Sundays, I still pray to the almighty Al Davis
Quote of the year from Sam Rutigliano " Bum Phillips knocked on the wrong door ( Cleveland winning division, not Pittsburgh)
Absolute Classic football!

too bad the wrong team won the SB
Matuszak was hilarious. 24:42. Rest in peace John.
Brian Sipe NFL MVP
So this is what the NFL looked like the year I was born (Late August 1980)

The Raiders first wild card team to win the Super Bowl
Like Ahmad said to MJ, "Some CAN, Some CAN'T!"
Saturday morning this is great 👍
I was 17 in 1980 🏈📺👀 We won The High School NCS CHAMPIONSHIP 🏆in The Oakland Coliseum 💫Pittsburg Pirates ❤️ Absolutely wonderful era 🎉🎉🎉
Name of the song in the intro..
One of the best EVER on NFL films
For the Super Bowl film or the NFL '80 film?
As a die hard eagles since 1978 heartbroken at the Super Bowl loss to the raiders remember like it was yesterday now I’m 52
LOL Matusak sacked Jaworski so many times he can tell what cologne he's wearing! Fun fact: #44 for the Raiders is Burgess Owens, who is now a U.S. Congressman.
5:50 Phil Foo Villapiano as a Buffalo Bill
No punt attended to Jim Plunkett but I thought Rod Martin should've been SUPER BOWL XV MVP with his 3 INTS with one setting up a RAIDERS drive the other stopping an EAGLES drive
All three of Plunkett's scores directly led to them winning. Martin's last INT was after the game was decided.
Should have been co-MVPs like in SB XII
@32:40, that is not a fumble, he was down! It's a good thing we have instant replay now, because the ground can't force a fumble!
was he touched then the ground caused the fumble. I'm not sure. I thought the ground can cause a fumble if ball carrier was not touched before he went down to the ground.
well he was clearly touched before he hit the ground with the ball in his hands. that shouldn't be a fumble.
Hail Mary in Minnesota, for the Vikings this time
Was that initial music from "the guns of Navarone"?
Even though the Raiders won, I'm still nervous watching the replay
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES were way too uptight in SUPER BOWL XV the OAKLAND RAIDERS the savy Veterans they were took full advantage
You’re right about that!!!!
41:19 sandy run country club is located in oreland, pa
I betcha the Chargers wished Cleveland won that Divisional playoff game against Oakland.
Crazy George at 1:57 - 2:06
Lester Hayes looked like a Somolian pirate.
8:34--MICHAEL JORDAN'S CADDY!!! CLAIRE HUXTABLE'S EX!!!

5:44--Not politically correct.
That was how real men talked when football was played by real men
If that Rashad catch at 8:30 would happen today with the stakes involved, the internet would break for sure.
