I'm teaching myself to code currently. Personally, I find the big problem to be inconsistency in the quality of teaching materials (books, video courses, etc.), such that it makes "tutorial hell" almost mandatory - you HAVE to trial-consume and error multiple materials on a given topic to have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of it. So it's nothing to do with me. I have complete confidence in my own intelligence.
No it's not the quality of teaching, it's the wrong career path you are choosing. I'm senior developer and I went to University. College and Universities does not teach you how to code, it teaches you how to be efficient solving IT Problems in real world. You can't skip important subjects like Algorithms, Methodologies, Data Structures, Software Engineering subjects and Computational Architecture and directly jump into coding. That's why it becomes complex for people to learn programming and they become very bad developers in general. I studied a CS Degree in 2013, we had like 2 whole semesters before starting to touch code. When I see a coding tutorial, I'm not watching it to learn how to code, I'm watching it to quickly understand how to implement the technical solution. If you really want to become efficient at Software development industry, go and get a CS Degree. Believe me, out there technical tests are the hell, most of this technical tests are about how to implement certain algorithms like dijkstra's algorithm. You need to pass this tests in order to get a job.
Thank you for this. As an aspiring SWE, I appreciate how simple and easy to understand this is. Sort of a detailed breakdown of the Feynman technique that my mentor always preaches about.
I just finished the Audible version of Make It Stick. I do recommend it. Review, review review (reread, reread, reread) is NOT a great way to learn something.
I am loving your content so much ...so needed for me. Please keep growing consistently like this. Please continue to make videos for newbies struggling in coding with your experiences.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m in object oriented programming right now and everyday I leave with a twinge of doubt that I can learn it. Definitely going to try these steps next chapter! :)
The content has no knowledge to share and everything is already out. Why dont you tell me what you learn from this video because i learned nothing but time wasted.
