Does Midwest Emo Work In Standard?

- I think it does but it really depends on the key that you play in. I've chosen G major for this riff, which gives me a bit of a darker sound. Also this is the first finger style riff that i've written in a while. I'm a bit rusty!

Midwest emo in standard tuning (not including vocals) always gives me a warm, home feeling
Probably because it uses notes and chords from Am/C scales, which are used many times in ballads and "cozy" songs.
Same lol I'm originally from the Midwest but recently moved to the south and the midwest emo genre really does create this home feeling
I hate it lol
It's harder than alternate tuning. You can work with keys of G, A and D for most. E is fine but limited, also as C major.
Why are some keys more limiting? Isn't it all the same WWHWWWH step patterns, just different notes?
@@andrewlightfoot2616 A lot of the sound of midwest comes from using open strings in chord shapes, the notes of the open strings dictate what kinds of open chords you can play and therefore the key. Everything changes when you use a capo though
it absolutely works in standard tuning, but part of the fun is finding random tunings that magically work for midwest emo lmao
Just got my guitar last night look foward to playing with all the knowledge that has been given to me
Absolutely. And with enough practice, you can try weirder keys, like C#Maj or F#Maj w/o capo. Many variations are also available by doing chords with your thumb holding the 6th string.
i dunno if you'd consider them midwest emo-y but PENs+ has really some really cool math rocky songs in standard :)
I've noticed a lot of people who play it in standard do so in G. I guess the open strings lend themselves well to it
kinda Chonny :) amazing as always Trevor
I say it does. ❤️
Only if your name is Trevor Wong
Midwest emo in DADGAD is top tier though
hearing that little piece of Bubble Dream at 0:09 - 0:11 *chef's kiss*
The whole existence of my channel only depends on this video
It's the sound of soulless twinkle now
Doesn't basically every emo band from the 90s play in drop d or standard. Mineral, Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas Is the Reason, Christie Front Drive. Maybe not the modern math rock bands.
Sounds like it does
Sounds like chon )
yes!!
Always amazing but this one was gorgeous
moms jean
Goodbye alternative tunings.
may i konw whats the model of your guitar pls :)
Is this Riff on your patreon side, i cant find it ther? I love this riff ❤️
mom jeans plays in standard
Think you can make tabs for this?
standard + capo = midwest emo
G Major and E Major are arguably the best keys for 'open tunings' in Standard. In G you can play the open G and D strings. In E Major you can play the open B and E strings.
Tabs😢
I'm getting a telecaster when I come back from Pakistan (in 2 weeks and a few days) what telecaster can you recommend me? It's gonna be my first electric guitar.
The Squier Classic Vibe 50s is good; the Fender Player Series is more expensive, but great cost-benefit. There's also the Squier Offset Tele if you like Jazzmaster bodies.
this just in: yes
You said this emo stuff was just a phase. Sure as hell doesn't feel like one.
This is beautiful
this sounds like the sun shining through your window on a sunny, non-assuming late afternoon
It would be cool to see a math rock chords vid
Sounds fire, glad I had notifications on
