It's so strange how savoury oatmeal comes as such a shock to y'all.. My mom would make a simple savoury oatmeal with onion, garlic and butter and it tasted so good! But these recipes look absolutely bomb!❤️
I’m with you Marisha, I hopped on the savory oatmeal train a few years ago, and the reactions I got were pretty funny. People are just used to associating sweet with Oatmeal which I understand the initial disgusted reaction. Lol
I always get very weird reactions when I tell people I eat savory oatmeal. I wonder if people have never made plain oatmeal and dont know it isnt sweet?
I just LOOOVE savoury oats! Such a fab way to change thins up but still have a great, nourishing meal! Oats are super healthy grain and on some days, having a meal in 10 mins is just so much better than spending 40mins on cooking any other grains :D
Oatmeal popularity has suddenly risen in Japan and major cooking way is savory like you do! Using microwave to make “oatmeal rice” is the easiest way and also I like to use rice cooker to make soup with steel cut oats. Thank you for putting light on savory oatmeal!
I love making savoury oatmeal congee too! So so good and so much quicker than the regular ones 🙌😍 but I’ve never made oatmeal bibimbap or risotto!! I shall try those too!!! 🤗 They look so good 💚💚
Yay oatmeal recipes! I was just thinking of how I wanted to cook some oatmeal since I haven't had it for months. I got sick of eating it everyday and overdid it so I took a long break from eating oatmeal. Going to start eating oatmeal again because I need to lose this Rona weight so I'm looking fwd to trying a recipe. ^.^ thx!
LOVE the savory breakfast options! (the only time I want pancakes or waffles is at 2 in the morning when I've been out late!) Can't wait to try the Congee tomorrow - it sounds delish (as do the other two; yes, it's all about savory-spicy food for me). Cheers!
I love oatmeal and oats but then it is a traditional food in Scotland because we do have many oat food producers in Scotland including Quakers so being Scottish is my excuse because it's in my genetics to eat oats and oat related products. Great video Rose and recipes even this scotsman will love.
Perfect! I typically don't eat breakfast, so I don't get a chance to eat oatmeal. I love savory oatmeal and this is just the reminder I needed to get me back on the oatmeal train!
I'm sure this video popped up in my feed because I just started making some savory oatmeal this last week - I added different herbs and vegan cheese to mine, as well as some nutritional yeast, and different veggies - so good! I was also trying another way to have breakfast without it being sweet, and because everyone talks about the health benefits of oatmeal. I'm definitely going to try these, as well, and thanks too, for the recipe link for the vegan 'spam' - I'll be checking that out, too! :)
Hi Rose! I always eat savory oatmeal.....always always...combine it with mushrooms....yummy! I put nutritional yeast and ground flax seeds....I always have oat groats made...it easily replaces rice and other grains....
Great recipes. Today I made a quinoa pilaf and I added leftover oats from home made milk, it was good. I also saw Rip Esselyns Mom do savoury oat recipes. It looks yummy
These are great ideas, and I am gonna try them first thing! I adore savoury oatmeal, and hate sweet oatmeal (and yeah everyone thinks I am crazy). One savoury oatmeal I make is with diced green bell peppers and sun-dried tomatoes, and lots of nooch.
I tried oatmeal as a pizza base a couple of years ago and it was soooo good but I’ve been interested in making oatmeal savory in other ways as well. Will try some of these
hell yes! finally another person on this planet that doesn't like sweet (oat)meals as much. 👌 felt like I'm the only one that doesn't get the hype about it... I'm definitely gonna try out these recipes - thanks for sharing! ❤
🧡❤️💜💚I always hated anything with oats but since they are so healthy I kinda forced myself to eat oats for breakfast every day for a while and no lie I like oatmeal now. I crave it! 🧑🍳 I make cooking videos too. so I’m always looking out for new recipes and tips & tricks to use in the kitchen. 🤳Plus I like to see how people film their videos and I have to say this is beautifully presented. ❤️ I think we could learn a lot from each other! Thank you for sharing your talent with us all! 🤗
Glad you did this video. When I went full vegan I began making my vegan Mac and cheese with oats, as I went wheat free gluten free as well and some other savory dishes. I enjoyed it so much. I tend to like to use Steele cut oats for bite or rolled oats not fully cooked for a more wheat pasta bite.
I love savory oatmeal! I usually use steel cut though. I use the flavors of a sauce or dish I like and add it within the last 5 minutes of cooking. I've made caprese, chimichurri, and pesto oatmeals.
I love oats with onions, mushroom, garlic and whatever greens I have, and of course whatever seasonings I feel like and of course hot sauce...love it!!!
I tried the one with lentils, because I love lentils! So good! Having it for lunch because it's lunch time. But sometimes I want a savory breakfast. Thanks for sharing!
I really liked the last one! Would def try it! 🤤 In my house, my grandma and my dad used to put oats on soups, i always thought they tasted more delicious that way
Love savoury oatmeal. I add sliced avocado to oatmeal congee and sprinkle with furikake 😋. I would love to know where you got your blue dish in the risotto segment. Thanks!
savory oatmeal is my savior when im poor or cant get to the store, some vegan butter and a bouillon cube and any random bits and bobs of vegetables If you have them
Oatmeal "sausage" patties are so good. Toss quick oats into boiling water with sage, cayenne, salt, italian spice mix, and onion powder. Stir well then let cool while preheating oven to 350°F, then bale on an oven tray 15mon one side, flip, 10min other side. Voila.
These recipes look really yummy. I normally eat my oatmeal with vegan butter, salt, and pepper and whatever veggies I have on hand sauteed on top. I really love the last one you showed and I'm pretty sure I have some neglected dried shitake mushrooms in my pantry as well. 😂
Just tried the "Oatmeal Lentil Congee" and I really enjoyed it. It was so filling and creamy, and the umami flavour! I think I may have added a little too much extra water but will alter that for next time. Thanks so much for the tasty recipe.
The water that the mushrooms soaked in would have been full of flavour, that you could have added back into the risotto. It's used as a base for some broth :)
At first i was like wth but omg that reminds me that I did try savory oatmeal before. Once I had stuffed squash with oat rice and confit yolk at a restaurant and it was amazing! Savory and spicy. I have to try those thanks Rose 🥰
When İt's salty like keshkek. İ add a little vinegar and sometimes nutriginal yeast olive paste blackpepper. To add orange juice cook or leftover night very nice sweet coice
I just decided that I need to eat more oatmeal! How perfect is that! Going to try the Bibimbap today and have to make the Cashew Parmesan today, too. Just got a small chopping thingy so that'll be perfect! Yay! Thanks for all the fantastic videos, recipes and ideas!
It was weird for me at first with savory oatmeal. Once I tried it, it hit me.... rice can be sweet (rice pudding) and savory (dinner).... of coast oatmeal can too. Dur. lol.
These look soo good! I don't eat regular oatmeal because the texture makes me gag even though i like the taste but overnight oats with tahini are the best. I just get bored of the same stuff so these recipes can really help me incorporate oats into my diet a little more. I just wish I weren't allergic to peanuts so I could have a source of fat to combine them with, I find that that makes the texture more bearable for me. And sadly, good quality tahini is hard to find where I live.
O man... I’ve never seen conjee before... I’m drooling. That’s going to be my new thing. I don’t have a sweet tooth either. I’m very much about savory, hot and bitter. Oatmeal risotto looks bomb too. My mom used to make us grits as kids. It was up to us whether we wanted it sweet or savory.
the only thing that has stopped me eating savoury oats is simply not knowing what to do to make them savoury but i think you've solved that issue for me
I don't understand why everyone always associates oatmeal with sweet things, oats themselves taste very bland, they are the perfect conductor for any flavour you'd like to add. Must be that american sweet breakfast craze :P I always cook some spring onions in vegan butter, add the oats, some veggie broth, some assorted seeds, cook it to my desired consistency and add some miso for salt. Then I put it in a bowl and eat it with vegetables like carrot, onions, radishes and cucumber that's been pickled in a soysauce, rice vinegar and sugar mixture with garlic and ginger
I totally recommend miso oatmeal - you add a tablespoon of miso paste of your choice, splash of soy sauce, sesame oil and spring onions to a cooked oatmeal, with chickpeas or tofu.
I once tried cooking a "mexican" themed oatmeal. Basically adding oats to a pot of chilli beans but it wasn't that great. The consistency was off. Am curious to try out these recipes as I definitely prefer savoury, especially in the morning.
@@spanishDoll1 sorry for not having exact measurements, I just eyeball things. I use frozen chopped kale and quick oats. I put the frozen kale in a pan and add nutritional yeast, salt, black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. I cook it until it is soft. Boil water and add it to quick oats. Mix in the cheesey kale, top with sriracha sauce and avocado. Sometimes I will also put sesame seeds too

omg you discovered the greatness before so many people!
I’m with you Marisha, I hopped on the savory oatmeal train a few years ago, and the reactions I got were pretty funny. People are just used to associating sweet with Oatmeal which I understand the initial disgusted reaction. Lol
I've been seeing savoury oat recipes awhile but I've only tried it today. It's sooo good right
@@spanishDoll1 It's so gooood! My usual go to has either a mushroom risotto inspiration or whatever I can make with sauteed greens.
I always get very weird reactions when I tell people I eat savory oatmeal. I wonder if people have never made plain oatmeal and dont know it isnt sweet?
I'm a "savory tooth" too and I've been wanting to add more oats to my diet, so this is perfect!!
Me too lol. I have to feel for something sweet. Which is usually vegan chocolate and vegan yogurt
I just LOOOVE savoury oats! Such a fab way to change thins up but still have a great, nourishing meal! Oats are super healthy grain and on some days, having a meal in 10 mins is just so much better than spending 40mins on cooking any other grains :D
omg yessss i'm so happy i discovered savoury oats!!
I never even knew this kind of oatmeal was a thing! It seems odd to me but I’m sure it’s amazing! ✨
totally odd but oh so good :)
have fun eating so much sugar and destroying your arteries

I've been experimenting w thickening my broths/soups w oat flour...it works great
This is everything I needed in my life. I don’t like sweet breakfasts at allll
"people think it's weird" and I'm sitting here eating my oat congee lol
bahahaha love it!
Just made the Bibimbop one. I did steel cut oats, used green onions and cilantro and used chick peas as my protein. Soo good!
I have oats and lentils at home, I know what’s for dinner 😋

I do half oatmeal and half textured vegetable protein and make it savory a lot of the time.
This video popped up as I was done making my oatmeal 😆😆

It’s traditional in Scotland to have salt on oatmeal I haven’t tried it but I have had butter on oatmeal and it’s lovely
Yes, my friend was the first person to introduce me to that. Yummy
It's really hard to find savoury oatmeal recipe! Thanks for the recipe 😘
Oat congee is the best, pretty much just as good as traditional congee but done in a fraction of the time!

Love ❤️ Oatmeal recipes thank you 😊
This really just shows how creative you can get with so many ingredients! 🤩🤍
vegans are the most creative, I swear! hahaha !
Non vegans are boring and not adventurous.
you can't get creative when you have nutrient deficiencies and eating sugar all day which is what vegan diets do - kill your body
I love oats with onions, mushroom, garlic and whatever greens I have, and of course whatever seasonings I feel like and of course hot sauce...love it!!!
Rose have you tried oat parmesan?
Two parts quick oats, one part nutritional yeast in the blender. Salt to taste.

You should try making a vegan version of it and replace the confit yolk for a vegan hollandaise or something!! @CheapLazyVegan
Nice twist on savory oatmeal. To get some green in I’d add spinach to the mushroom/ tofu.
Hey Rose, I love oatmeal congee I think you'll love it too 😋
I've been eating savoury oatmeal since two decades ago.

I am so down with this!! Thank you!!😋
Yum! I’m a savory girl too! I bet all of these would be good with barley too!

I totally recommend miso oatmeal - you add a tablespoon of miso paste of your choice, splash of soy sauce, sesame oil and spring onions to a cooked oatmeal, with chickpeas or tofu.
add 1 ounce of cow liver grinded up in there - more nutrients than everything else in that meal Marta
Oatmeal is actually quite nice in its simplest savory form, with just butter and salt. That’s how I grew up eating it.

this would be cool to try out ♡
Yes! Savoury oatmeal is just the best, in my opinion 😍
Nothing better than a good portion of morning garlic. 😉
