    The Philippine topping of coffee being too strong might have been because the 'standard' instant coffee here in the Philippines tends to be something called '3 in 1' which is powdered milk/creamer, instant coffee and sugar and dissolves almost immediately with any form of moisture.

      As an Aussie also I agree with this.
      My favourite is with the ice cream and milo mixing it together until is like a soft serve.
      Mandatory that you’re super generous with the amount of milo.
      Otherwise another Aussie tradition that every kid has done at one point or another is making milo paste. Heaps of milo! Like let’s be real it can vary from a 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup depending how your day was and a couple of table spoons of cold milk then stir until a think paste. Is okay if it’s lumpy.
      But a milo episode would definitely be something to consider as it’s very popular drink in various Asian countries also.

    Hi Beryl!
    I'm from Nigeria, growing up milo was a huge part of my diet
    anyway when I was little my siblings and I would put a huge heaping tablespoon of it on soft white and microwave it for 30 secs most delious thing ever. If you do decide to try it make you a thick slice of bread. Any white loaf from an African store works perfectly. Thanks for all the food cravings.

    Can you do leftover pasta next (ex. elbow macaroni, penne, etc)? OR, what else to put on instant Mac n cheese? (I have small kids so mac n cheese is frequently in our rotation… I often put frozen green peas in at the end of the cooking time for the pasta to give it a little more nutrition). Wondering what other combos might be good

    • @nilsschenkel7149
      @nilsschenkel7149 2 года назад +7

      You might like danish pasta casserole; I guess you could prepare mac´n cheese with the same ingredients as well. You stack alternating layers of leftover noodles you mixed with dices of ham, peas and baby carrots (where I live you can get cans of precooked peas and carrots) with grated cheese in a greased casserole and then pour over it a mixture of eggs and milk, like thin scrambled eggs. You can leave out the egg mixture, but then a lot more cheese is necessary to keep it from falling apart if you put a piece on a plate. It´s ready if the egg mix is fully set and the cheese melted, which takes an hour plus/minus 15mins on 350F. Depending on your oven you might want to cover the top with tinfoil to prevent the top layer of pasta from drying out in the corners.

Along the pina colada lines, one of my favourite porridges to make is with coconut milk as the main liquid, mango (fresh is best but I live in Northern Europe so frozen is what I've got) and a sprinkling of palm sugar to make a cheater's version of Thai sticky mango rice. Milo (pronounced My low) is awesome sprinkled over vanilla or toffee ice cream. I don't really like drinking or except for as a thick milkshake but my girlfriend always keeps a tin around in winter as a warm drink. When I'm making a mug for her, I'll usually eat a spoonful straight from the tin but when I'm really craving something sweet I'll mix up 2 parts Milo to one part Condensed milk 🤤 Condensed milk is just amazing though.

    At the end, you said "it's cool to think outside our own boxes of what is a 'good' topping". When I watch this series, I actually think the opposite. I look at oatmeal and think "breakfast porridge". It's not savoury, it's not exactly sweet, it's just a plain base for my fruit or yogurt. When I watched this video, my perception expanded and I have now unlocked oatmeal as a complex base for toppings I didn't even give a second thought to before. I can put literally anything I want on it now. The oatmeal broke out of the box, not the toppings. Food for thought!
