      The issue with part 3 wasn't how long it was, it was just its dumb format. Every episode doesn't feel like it had weight on the story, it was just a stand battle and then "ok we kept traveling off camera." If we actually saw them make progress on camera I woulda like part 3 SO much better. I also hated the convenient "Oh, no more plain travel, and then Oh, boat was a stand no more boat travel"
      And on top of that why was there so many 2/3/4 parters, like dude not every villain needs to be stretched over several episodes.

      Part 3 had me invested the entire time because of the road trip with da Bois vibe and because I was extremely invested in Jotaro and Polnareffs character arcs. The only episodes I didn't like were the Sun and Alessi episodes and even then the camel joke almost makes up for the sun to me and the Alessi episodes had a great joke ending as well with Kid Jotaro stomping him. Most of the episodes in part 3 had some standout character moment or chemistry.
      I honestly don't get the problem with part 3 sure a lot of the minor villains suck but the same thing can be said about part 4, 6, and some part 7 villains.

      An aspect of jojo I’m beginning to not like (but make me appreciate part 3 and more importantly 4 more now) is how it always tends to immediately escalate the stakes so far beyond relatability to the point where it goads us to care about characters we barely knew yet right before they die.
      I still believe part 3’s adaption could’ve been a bit shorter, I can’t deny that its length sorta played into its advantage by actually having mostly the same cast for the entire part. Like to the point where we get to see them in enough serious AND lighthearted scenarios for us to feel like we went on a genuine journey together.
      Which is crazy to me considering how half the crusaders weren’t even developed or written that well to begin with.
      But part 3 already served as a soft reboot to the franchise anyways so it always feels like it exists in its own little pocket world. So the simple yet zany characters fit in pretty decently due to how simple and zany the entire goal and villains tend to be.
      I feel like part 4 parried off of that concept beautifully by having all of morioh play into the shock at the reveal that kira lurking around in it.
      We spent so much time getting to know the town and its people BEFORE kira (when he was technically already there) it makes the reveal hit harder and genuinely raise the stakes and put into perspective how dangerous he actually is and what could happen if he loses.
      Ntm how morioh as a town served as pretty great surrogate to have the monster of the week formula compared to other parts to me.
      I’m an anime only and have been watching SO week to week (aka i’m still not done with part 2 of part 6) but I genuinely am becoming more dissapointed by how it seems araki may never return to structuring parts like that again.

    • @gabrielg3866
      @gabrielg3866 Год назад +8

      @@theradionicrevival8068 I don't really know what you mean specifically by raise the stakes past relatability? What does raising the stakes have to do with how relatable a part is? Imo part 4 had low stakes but was relatable and part 3, 6, and 7 had high stakes and was relatable. But part 5 is the only part imo that had high stakes with an unrelatable climax (not to knock part 5 I still like it) but more importantly part 8 has low stakes but isn't very relatable in its climax. I just don't really think stakes has anything to do with how relatable the climax of a part is.

    • @conspiracypanda1200
      @conspiracypanda1200 Год назад +26

      Personally, the reason I like Part 4 is because it's mostly just a bunch of dumbasses hanging out and being dramatic. The (mostly) relaxed environment means I feel the characters didn't have to be serious all the time so I got a better grasp of them faster and they didn't feel flat, but when they did get serious it was always pretty cool, which was a great relief after Part 3. I mean, it's not exactly Nichijou but it sure isn't your average battle manga. When Kira comes in it really does feel like a different show/manga though, which is more in line with what most fans were probably expecting at that point. I personally loathe Kira (in a good way) so I enjoy both the Slice of Life and Killer arcs. They kinda mix like oil and water though.

    The reason the start of Part 4 and it's slice of life format are important is that it sets the stakes for the rest of the part. The threat of part 4 was to the people and town of Morioh, and that threat would not be nearly as compelling if we didn't know the people living there. If Kira wins, all these people who we've met will die. As opposed to Dio taking over the world in part 3, we know that's bad, but other than the main cast we don't know or care about the people.

    • @bruhmoment3478

      Not really all people. Just some. It was amazing because the threat wasn't really high. It was just a serial killer that killed some women around town. He wouldn't kill everyone in it. They went after him because they wanted revenge and because he was a stand user, not because they knew he existed (remember when they learned about him and decided to do nothing until Shigechi died?) That's why this part was cool. If they weren't there nothing would've really happened so this was just a fun little adventure with low stakes.

    • @HabitualThinker
      @HabitualThinker Год назад +46

      @@bruhmoment3478 the reason they didn’t do anything when they first learned about him is because they thought he was a run of the mill serial killer. Kira is much more of a threat to the town simply BECAUSE he is a stand user. The whole reason they go after him isnt just because he killed shigechi, but considering that shigechi’s stand was basically invincible in stand combat, that meant the person who killed him had a really strong ability themself. The entire reason they stopped ignoring him is because through shigechi’s death they learned he was a massive threat. (Joseph even talks to jotaro about how there’s a murderous stand user on the loose)
      Also, saying kira isn’t a threat to morioh is like saying Jeffrey dahmer with super powers wouldn’t be a threat to whatever town he lived in. Of fucking course he would be, killing any part of the town is still threatening the town.

I do think the anime has done a better (Not perfect) job of giving the characters more to work with in terms of scenes and time spent with them as opposed to the manga. And I mean the whole thing with Gwess is idk why anyone would want to team up with some crazy lady who killed a dude and shrunk you then forced you into a degutted mouse body, then forcing you to train and act like a mouse to help her escape. Then backstabbing you to try and get you killed by the guards. And in terms of location, Atleast we are always exploring other parts of the prison, moving all around it and such. But i do see how it can be unenjoyable for some people, as its not as rich and enjoyable as Morioh per say but its not really meant to be. I also think it was very important. It's what made the part. When I think back to it I think "wow, that was a real journey. Trish was given only one strong moment (understandably since she's quite a late addition but she was their objective the whole first half of the series so it felt like a let down.) Abacchio was also only given one strong moment with the insane fight before his pending demise. And the most disappointing decision Araki has done imo, removing Fugo from the squad despite being one of the most interesting character.
    Bucciarati and Mista, especially Mista, kept being the only characters that I see fight multiple times from start to end unlike the others that remain unconcious or incapacitated for certain circumstances.

    Part 4 is my favorite part (having read parts 1-7 at this point) BECAUSE of the slice of life elements. Mainly, because the slice of life episodes were the first time we got to see Araki applying stand encounters to non battle scenarios, which opened up a lot of interesting and fun story scenarios that you just don’t see from parts like 3, 5, or even 7 as good as steel ball run is. Like arguably my favorite episode of the entire series is “Let’s go eat some italian food” because it’s a comedic red herring episode with no actual battle, just Josuke getting tricked into thinking there’s gonna be one by another dude’s strange behavior. And of course because of Josuke punching the sphaghetti.

      Part 4 stands also punch above their weight impressively often. Crazy Diamonds can almost do any attack so long as “restoration” is an action that can be done, and Josuke is smart enough to do stuff Crazy Diamond cannot just do with punching and restoration. Echoes Act 2 basically can just be the ultimate trap stand, laying dangers just by touching a thing. Even given The Hand is Okuyasu’s, he gets very far with it. Surface takes control of any stand user. The Lock enforces politeness and is an unconventional lie detector. Cinderella basically changes fate. Enigma means you can capture anything and any person if they are inside a thing. Atom Heart Father and Superfly are some of the best containment stands. Heaven’s Door is low-grade reality warping. Highway Star is the ultimate tracker. Red Hot Chili Peppers can scale up to the heaviest hitting stands provided a city’s worth of power. Harvest is basically a game of Pikmin. Stray Cat can instinctively kill anybody. And while all of Killer Queen’s forms including it with Stray Cat are not overtly powerful, had Kira been more careful it probably would have.
      Honestly, almost all of the Part 4 stands are very impressive despite not working complexly or on fundamental forces of the universe.

      Part 5 is by far my favorite JoJo part so if Part 7 is anything like it in terms of vibes I'll definitely think it's peak when it gets animated. I finished Part 6 and it was good but I still think Part 5 is much better.
      I'm excited for Part 7 to get animated though.

      @Yugee I felt like it had a great cast of main characters, the stand powers were as great as ever so the fights were rarely boring, it had good pacing compared to previous parts imo and the themes were fantastic. One thing I will say though is that Diavolo wasn't as good as the previous villains.

    • @Amunny
      @Amunny Год назад

      @Yugee I can understand your opinion honestly. I didn't care much for Fugo's character so I guess I was more okay without him being elaborated on. Not gonna lie I still haven't processed Part 6's ending properly (I just finished watching the last episodes yesterday, the things with Emporio and Pucci at the end there were nuts) so I might take you up on that.
      What you said about Part 7 is so interesting to me because that was exactly what I felt about Part 5. I feel it took everything JoJo had to offer before it and made it work. If you're describing Part 7 like that then I doubt I wouldn't like it. Based off how Part 6 ended I guess we might be getting a fresh start? Not to spoil anything for people who haven't finished Part 6 yet but we clearly can't simply follow the Joestar bloodline like we used to anymore, so I wonder what's going to be done...

    I'm looking forward to part 7's anime. If it's bad I'm never trusting JJBA community ever again. I don't really understand the hate on pt 3, it literally establishes and solidifies what modern Jojo is. Before pt 3 there are no stands, there is no understanding of how they work, or what qualifies a person to be a stand user. It makes sense they take a longer time to demonstrate what stands are while showing how goofy they can be as well.
    Altho I do like part 2, I don't like Kars' metamorphosis and how that was wrapped up. He was essentially immortal and ascended to God hood but was so easily overtaken. Also they made LL so incredibly useless when she's supposed to be this master.

      because nothing much happens in part 3. once the gang sets out for egypt, no major plot beats actually happen until they get to dio aside from yoinking kakyoin and avdol out midway through. half of the battles end by jotaro just punching his way out and half of the villains end up being some meme/gimmicky stands rather than actual threats. at the very end, some character deaths happen but jotaro kills dio anyways because he can time stop too i guess
      you'd think that dio would send his most powerful goons when they land in egypt, and it actually starts off with a very threatening fight with n'doul, but the next episode literally shoves it all out with the oingo boingo garbage or the weird p*** guy who went after polnareff.

    I think the problem with part 3 is summed up by two things:
    - It adapted 3.2 chapters per episode on average, while the rest of the series averages 4.2 chapters per episode, making it a whole 25% slower than the rest of the show combined.
    - Araki pulls half the plots out of his arse and the other half from old movies he hopes the audience hasn't seen.

    I think that what saved part 5 for me (cuz most of it was pretty boring in my opinion) was the side characters like Bucciarati, Mista, Narancia, Abbacio and (SPOILER ALERT) Polnareff. Because tbh Giorno is such a boring character, there's nothing interesting about him except Gold Experience, all he ever does is talk about his "dream" to become a gangstar and that's it. Diavolo also kinda saves part 5 for me, he was a good villain, except for Doppio, I felt like Doppio was very interesting but completely pointless, they could have either made Doppio his own character (and not a part of Diavolo) and have him fight and lose to Bucciarati's team, or just remove him completely. The fights in part 5 went on for way too long and I had to stop watching in the middle of a "fight" because I was bored and literally nothing was happening, they were just talking and talking

    I feel like for many people wether it comes down to music, tv shows, movies, etc, the more perspectives and time you take to really take in and analyze a show even if ever so slightly will help you appreciate it a lot more. I used to have the almost exact same opinion as Critikal. Since the last year I got back into JOJO’S I’m picking up things and learning new stuff about the anime, manga, and even Araki himself. It’s at a point to where I enjoy every part I’ve seen so far (up until part 6) and have so many things to talk about between all of them. If someone blatantly doesn’t like something about a part then that’s warranted we all have opinions, but some things can be turned into positives and JOJO’S can help exercise that motion a ton!

    Man I never thought I'd see this crossover of Trash Taste and Charlie. RUclips has peaked.
    Solid takes too. For me it goes 2>4>1>6>3>5. I like and 2, 4, and 1 are the most unpredictable to watch. 1 set the foundations for hamon which was necessary in order for the rest of the series (or just part 2 since 3 onwards scrapped hamon) to test the limits of hamon. Even if Jonathan is rather vanilla, he is a solid hero protagonist to set up the standard good vs evil trope. Joseph takes the series above and beyond because he is such a huge contrast to Jonathan. I absolutely LOVE how part 1 and 2 are not formulaic and the conflicts are unpredictable. Every chapter is a page turner.
    Part 3 is great for the human connection of the main characters and we as the reader/watcher immerse ourselves in their story and become attached to them. It is pretty good, but definitely disappointed me as it developed the shounen formula where there's always the good guy vs bad guy and it is so predictable to know who will win the fight. Sure, it can be argued that it is unpredictable about HOW the fight will end, but I don't enjoy that as much as knowing who will win.
    I disagree with Charlie on part 4. I also hate slice of life, but for part 4 it was necessary to develop the characters and have the audience become attached to them. My only issue with it is that no one but Shigechi and Cinderella stand user died. And Reimi officially I guess. But yeah it felt a little too clean, but it was still a very well directed part.
    Part 5 is a massive disappointment for me and I fucking despise it. It started off SO STRONG playing with the idea that Giorno wants to do GOOD by ending drug scandals in Italy, but to do so he has to infiltrate the mafia. This could have brought a lot of psychological and moral conflict for Giorno who should have taken part in crimes in order to achieve his dream of becoming the boss and ending the crimes. Instead, it fucking was another formulaic pile of trash where it was always good guy vs bad guy. We team up with Bucciarati? Gang not in Bucciarati we fight. Now we fight the Boss' gang. Like ???? That is so BORING! And I HATE what they did with Fugo. They set him up to betray Giorno but instead he's just scrapped and adds another hole to part 5.
    Part 6 is such an improvement from Parts 3 and 5 in my opinion. It feels much less formulaic because there is more drama and storytelling meshed in with the fights, and the fights are not predictable on who will win. My only issue is that injuries are no longer serious because Foo Fighters can heal everything. But I still really like the set up for the plot and the internal and external conflicts presented for Jolyne and the rest of the cast.

    Eventhough part 4 is my fav part, I can respect, Charlie's opinion though, I remember being a little bit dissapointed about the different art style at the beginning, but it really hooked me tho, when you thought it's gonna be happy and fun, and then the teaser at the beginning with the cutted off hand. I didn't like the Yasuho arc and few arcs were pretty wack, but after the introduction of Kira it got uphill.
